The effect of vitamin D supplementation on individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is inconclusive. We aimed to conduct a meta-analysis of the available randomized controlled trials (RCTs) to explore whether vitamin D supplementation can improve core symptoms and coexisting conditions in children with ASD. Data were obtained by searching the PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, CINAHL and Cochrane Library databases up to February 2022 following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. Using a random-effects model, mean differences with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were calculated through a meta-analysis. There were eight RCTs with 266 children with ASD in the present review, among which six RCTs were included in the meta-analysis. Children who received vitamin D supplementation showed a significant improvement in stereotypical behavior scores (pooled mean difference (MD): −1.39; 95% CI: −2.7, −0.07; p = 0.04) with low heterogeneity (I2 = 34%), and there was a trend toward decreased total scores on the Social Responsiveness Scale (SRS) and Childhood Autism Rating Scale (CARS, p = 0.05); however, there were no other significant differences in the core symptoms of ASD and coexisting conditions between groups as measured by the Aberrant Behavior Checklist (ABC). Vitamin D supplementation appears to improve stereotypical behaviors but does not improve other core symptoms and coexisting conditions. Further randomized controlled trials with large sample sizes and individualized doses are needed.

The objective of this research was to study the in situ and in vivo nasal absorption of Geniposide (Ge) co-administered with borneol. A rat in situ nasal perfusion technique with a novel volumeadjusted calculation was used to examine the absorption rate and extent of Ge. The influence of different experimental conditions such as purity of extract, drug concentration, co-administration with synthetic borneol or natural borneol were also investigated. Results indicated nasal absorption of Ge was primarily by passive diffusion that resembled first order kinetics. Following co-administration with borenol, the drug absorption was increased by 1.4 and 1.7 folds for natural borneol and synthetic borneol , respectively. However, the effect of other factors on drug absorption was not significant. In addition, it was also observed that there is a positive correlation between the absorption of water and Ge by the nasal route. In vivo studies carried out in rats where Ge was co-administered with NB and the pharmacokinetic profile obtained following intranasal administration were compared with those after intravenous administration. The bioavailability of Ge by intranasal was 101.5% and Tmax was 2.04 ± 0.64 min. MRT was 218.7 ± 74.1 min and 44.4 ± 8.9 min for intranasal and intravenous, respectively. Combined with the borneol,Ge can be promptly and thoroughly absorbed intranasally in rats.

Bioassay-guided fractionation of extracts from Fructus Gardeniae led to analysis of its bioactive natural products. After infection by influenza virus strain A/FM/1/47-MA in vivo, antiviral activity of the extracts were investigated. The target fraction was orally administered to rats and blood was collected. High-performance liquid chromatography coupled with photo diode array detector and electrospray ion trap multiple-stage tandem mass spectrometry was applied to screen the compounds absorbed into the blood. A structural characterization based on the retention time, ultraviolet spectra, parent ions and fragmentation ions was performed. Thirteen compounds were confirmed or tentatively identified. This provides an accurate profile of the composition of bioactive compounds responsible for the anti-influenza properties.
Mobility Load Balancing Scheme Based on Cell Priority in Heterogeneous Cellular Networks

Mobility load balancing (MLB) is a significant technology in Long Term Evolution Advanced heterogeneous cellular networks (HCN). To solve high handover performance loss issue and the potential Ping-Pong problem, a novel MLB scheme based on cell priority is proposed. Considering the impact of different user mobile speeds and cell coverage radius of HCN, we define a handover tolerance as the priority of load balancing to reduce the system performance loss caused by user handover. Furthermore, we use the load balancing index to evaluate the load balancing of HCN, then the load allocation mechanism of overlapping cells is deployed to overcome potential Ping-Pong problem. Simulation results show that the proposed MLB scheme has better performance than the original MLB scheme in terms of the system throughput and the number of unsatisfied users. Meanwhile, the handover times are also improved.
H∞ CONTROL FOR BATTERY/SUPERCAPACITOR HYBRID ENERGY STORAGE SYSTEM USED IN ELECTRIC VEHICLES
Zhifeng Bai,Zengfeng Yan,Xiaolan Wu,Jun Xu,Binggang Cao 한국자동차공학회 2019 International journal of automotive technology Vol.20 No.6
This paper proposes a control strategy of a hybrid energy storage system (HESS) based on simplified 2th-order model. The HESS uses a bidirectional DC/DC converter to connect the supercapacitors (SC) with the battery. Two control objectives, the output current of the SC during the traction procedure and the charging current of the SC while regenerative braking, are regulated by using the DC/DC converter. Two H∞ controllers are designed to control the output and charging current of the SC to their reference values, which are generated by the energy management strategy (EMS). Experimental results show that the proposed control method achieves a satisfactory performance, including a low steady-state tracking error and high response speed when the load power varies in a wide range.

Rotavirus (RV), as the main cause of diarrhea in children under 5 years, contributes to various childhood diseases. Valeriana jatamansi Jones is a traditional Chinese herb and possesses antiviral effects. In this study we investigated the potential mechanisms of V. jatamansi Jones in RV-induced diarrhea. MTT assay was performed to evaluate cell proliferation and the diarrhea mice model was constructed using SA11 infection. Mice were administered V. jatamansi Jones and ribavirin. Diarrhea score was used to evaluate the treatment effect. The enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay was performed to detect the level of cytokines. Western blot and quantitative reverse transcription-PCR were used to determine protein and mRNA levels, respectively. Hematoxylin-eosin staining was applied to detect the pathological change of the small intestine. TdT-mediated dUTP nick-end labeling was conducted to determine the apoptosis rate. The results showed V. jatamansi Jones promoted MA104 proliferation. V. jatamansi Jones downregulated phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI3K) and protein kinase B (AKT) in protein level, which was consistent with the immunohistochemistry results. Moreover, V. jatamansi Jones combined with ribavirin regulated interleukin-1β (IL-1β), interferon γ, IL-6, tumor necrosis factor α, and IL-10, and suppressed secretory immunoglobulin A secretion to remove viruses and inhibit dehydration. V. jatamansi Jones + ribavirin facilitated the apoptosis of small intestine cells. In conclusion, V. jatamansi Jones may inhibit RV-induced diarrhea through PI3K/AKT signaling pathway, and could therefore be a potential therapy for diarrhea.
Vibration reduction design of the Hangzhou Bay cable-stayed bridges
Liu, Weiqing,Xu, Xiuli,Wang, Rengui,Wang, Zijun,Wu, Xiaolan Techno-Press 2006 Structural Engineering and Mechanics, An Int'l Jou Vol.24 No.3
Hangzhou Bay Bridge spans the Hangzhou Bay and is located at Zhejiang province in the southeast seacoast of China. The total length of the bridge is 36 km. The bridge is composed of bridge approaches made up of multi-span prestressed concrete box girders and two cable-stayed bridges over the north and south navigable spans respectively. The seismic response analysis of the bridge model shows that if the navigable spans are designed as the routine earthquake-resistance system, the displacements and internal forces in pylons, piers and deckes are too large to satisfy the anti-seismic requirement of the structure. Therefore, the seismic reduction design was carried out by using viscous dampers to dissipate the kinetic energy of the structure both longitudinally and transversely. Using the vibration reduction system and aiming at the reasonable optimal goal, the purpose to reduce the seismic responses in south and north navigable spans has been achieved.
