        A BIM Based Approach for Structural Health Monitoring of Bridges

        With the development of bridges, independent condition assessment of large-scale bridges has garnered significant attention over the past few decades. Data-driven structural health monitoring (SHM) techniques offer valuable information on the existing health of the structures, maintain safety, and uninterrupted use under varied operational conditions by undertaking timely risk and hazard mitigation. Traditional approaches, however, are not enough to monitor a large amount of SHM data and conduct systematic decision making for future maintenance. In this paper, a bridge health monitoring system is developed through the combination of building information modeling (BIM) and traditional bridge health monitoring that can organize and visualize a considerable amount of sensor data and subsequent structural health information over a prolonged period. The system can identify the structural damage by evaluating the data from sensors using Wigner-Ville distribution (WVD) in bilinear time-frequency analysis. A BIM-enabled platform is utilized to develop the proposed visualization tool for a long-span bridge and enable automated sensor data inventory into the BIM environment. The system has been tested for its robustness and functionality against the development requirements, and the results showed promising potential to support more effective bridge information management.

        Size-Controlled Silver Nanoparticles Confined in Ordered Mesoporous Silica and Their Enhanced Catalytic Activities

        A cooperative assembly route has been developed, by which silver nanoparticles with controlled sizes are incorporated into the channels of ordered cubic mesoporous silica (KIT-6) with different pore sizes (4.3–6.4 nm). The samples were characterized by XRD, TEM, FT-IR, UV-Vis and N2 physisorption. The pore wall of mesoporous silica can efficiently confine the growth of silver nanoparticles within the channels and their average sizes decreased with the pore size reduction of KIT-6. Catalytic activities of the resultant Ag/KIT-6-x (x stands for hydrothermal temperature) composite for reducing harmful organic dye Rhodamine B (Rh B) by sodium borohydride (NaBH4) were investigated. All the Ag/KIT-6 composite samples show great catalytic activities, among which Ag/KIT-6-80 with higher loading and smaller size of Ag nanoparticles exhibits higher catalytic activity than those of Ag/KIT-6-60 and Ag/KIT-6-100.

        Corticosterone Administration Alters Small Intestinal Morphology and Function of Broiler Chickens

        Two experiments were carried out to study the effects of corticosterone (CORT) administration on intestinal morphology and function of broilers. In both experiments, birds were randomly divided into two equal groups. One group was the control group (CTRL), and the birds were fed with a basal diet. The other was the experimental group (CORT), and the birds were fed with the basal diet plus 30 mg of CORT/kg diet. At 21 days of age, performance, morphological characteristics of intestine, D-xylose level in plasma, activities of digestive enzymes in digesta, digestibility of nutrients and 5-bromo-2-deoxyuridine (BrdUrd)-labeling index of intestinal epithelial cells were determined. CORT administration decreased feed intake, daily gain and feed conversion ratio (p<0.05). CORT also decreased duodenal and jejunal villus height (p<0.05) as well as crypt depth (p<0.05). The D-xylose level in plasma of CORT-treated broilers was lower than that of the control (p<0.05). CORT treatment caused a decrease in apparent digestibility of protein (p<0.05), whereas fat and starch apparent digestibilities were unaffected (p>0.05). CORT administration increased activities of trypsin and amylase (p<0.05), and decreased BrdUrd-labeling index of duodenal and jejunal epithelial cells (p<0.05). In conclusion, CORT administration impaired the normal morphology and absorptive capacity of the small intestine of broiler chickens.

      • Diphoton signal of the light Higgs boson in natural NMSSM

        <P>The natural Next-to-Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (nNMSSM) is featured by predicting one CP-even Higgs boson satisfying m(h1) less than or similar to 120 GeV and Higgsinos lighter than about 300 GeV, and consequently, the cross section for dark matter (DM)-nucleon scattering in this scenario is usually quite large. We study the diphoton signal of the light Higgs boson in nNMSSM by considering the tight constraints from the latest LUX and PandaX-II experiments, and we conclude that the optimal value of the signal rate at 8 TeV LHC is greatly reduced in comparison with earlier predictions. For example, previous studies indicated that the rate may exceed 120 fb for m(h1) similar or equal to 80 GeV, while it is at most 25 fb if the lightest neutralino in the scenario is fully responsible for the measured DM relic density. We also investigate the case of m(h1) similar or equal to 98 GeV, which is hinted by the excesses of the large electron proton collider analysis on Z (b) over bar b signal and the compact muon solenoid analysis on the diphoton signal. We conclude that nNMSSM can simultaneously explain the excesses at the 1 sigma level without violating any known constraints.</P>

        The Influence of Dietary Calcium and Phosphorus Imbalance on Intestinal NaPi-IIb and Calbindin mRNA Expression and Tibia Parameters of Broilers

        A $2{\times}2$ factorial experiment was conducted to study the effect of dietary calcium and non-phytate phosphorus (nPP) imbalance on calbindin and NaPi-IIb mRNA levels in the small intestine and tibia parameters of broiler chicks. One hundred and forty four 1-d-old Arbor Acres male broiler chicks were divided into four treatments consisted of six replicates with six chicks each. The two dietary calcium levels were 1.10% and 0.60%, and two dietary nPP levels were 0.50% and 0.27%. Results showed that a high Ca/nPP ratio diet (4.07:1) significantly depressed feed intake and weight gain of broilers (p<0.05), but a lower Ca:nPP ratio (1.2:1) had no influence (p>0.05). Low-Ca with low-P diet resulted in low tibia minerals and tibia breaking strength of broilers, and all the tibia parameters were further decreased when the dietary ratio of Ca to P was relative higher. Low dietary Ca or P up-regulated the calbindin and NaPi-IIb mRNA expression levels. Low Ca with normal P diet up-regulated duodenal calbindin mRNA expression level to the greatest extent. Low P with a normal Ca diet significantly enhanced NaPi-IIb mRNA expression level to the highest extent. These results suggest that the calbindin and NaPi-IIb mRNA expression were enhanced by the imbalance between dietary Ca and nPP, and their expression were not only influenced by Ca or nPP level, but also the ratio of Ca:nPP.

      • Scalar dark matter interpretation of the DAMPE data with U(1) gauge interactions

        <P>Recently, the Dark Matter Particle Explorer (DAMPE) experiment released the new measurement of the total cosmic e(+) e(-) flux between 25 GeV and 4.6 TeV, which indicates a spectral softening at around 0.9 TeV and a tentative peak at around 1.4 TeV. We utilize a scalar dark matter (DM) model to explain the DAMPE peak by XX -> Z'Z' -> l (l) over barl'(l) over bar 'l with an additional anomaly-free gauged U (l) family symmetry, in which X, Z'and l((')) denote, respectively, the scalar DM, the new gauge boson, and l((')) = e, mu, tau, with m(x) similar to m(z)' similar to 2 x 1.5 (TeV). We first illustrate that the minimal framework Gsm X U(l)(Y') with the above mass choices can explain the DAMPE excess, which, however, be excluded by LHC constraints from the Z' searches. Then, we study a nonminimal framework G(SM) X U(l)(Y') x U(i)(Y') in which U(l)(Y') mixes with U(l)(Y'). We show that such a framework can interpret the DAMPE data and at the same time survive all other constraints including the DM relic abundance, DM direct detection, and collider bounds. We also investigate the predicted e(+) e(-) spectrum in this framework and find that the mass splitting Delta m = m(x) - m(z') should be less than about 17 GeV to produce the peaklike structure.</P>

        Characterization of porcine cytokine inducible SH2-containing protein gene and its association with piglet diarrhea traits

        Objective: The cytokine inducible SH2-containing protein (CISH), which might play a role in porcine intestine immune responses, was one of the promising candidate genes for piglet anti-disease traits. An experiment was conducted to characterize the porcine CISH (pCISH) gene and to evaluate its genetic effects on pig anti-disease breeding. Methods: Both reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and PCR were performed to obtain the sequence of pCISH gene. A pEGFP-C1-CISH vector was constructed and transfected into PK-15 cells to analysis the distribution of pCISH. The sequences of individuals were compared with each other to find the polymorphisms in pCISH gene. The association analysis was performed in Min pigs and Landrace pigs to evaluate the genetic effects on piglet diarrhea traits. Results: In the present research, the coding sequence and genomic sequence of pCISH gene was obtained. Porcine CISH was mainly localized in cytoplasm. TaqI and HaeIII PCR restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) assays were established to detect single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs); A-1575G in promoter region and A2497C in Intron1, respectively. Association studies indicated that SNP A-1575G was significantly associated with diarrhea index of Min piglets (p<0.05) and SNP A2497C was significantly associated with the diarrhea trait of both Min pig and Landrace piglets (p<0.05). Conclusion: This study suggested that the pCISH gene might be a novel candidate gene for pig anti-disease traits, and further studies are needed to confirm the results of this preliminary research.

        Dendrite Evolution of Delta (δ) Ferrite and Precipitation Behavior of Sigma (σ) Phase during Multipass Dissimilar Stainless Steels Welding

        The purpose of this study is to discuss the development of dendrite δ-ferrite and the precipitation behavior of σ phase in the overlapping heat-affected zones, or the fusion zones, during the multipass dissimilar stainless steels welding process. The color metallographic and color separation techniques were used to clearly identify the δ, σ, and γ phases. The experimental results indicated that the grain refinement was very obvious in the second and third pass fusion zones (304-1 and 304-2) when the welding pass was increased from 1 to 3. This refining phenomenon was attributed to the higher cooling rate and the degree of supercooling. The δ phase precipitated in the secondary and the tertiary dendrite arms of the δ-ferrite and it was able to grow on the dendrite arms along the [111] crystallographic in a 45o angle. The σ phase was also able to form stably after the phase decomposition of δ-ferrite into globular and lacy morphologies.
