      • Investigation of the April 2000 forest fire damage in Kang-won Province, Korea, using RADARSAT data

        Kang, Sung Chul,Seo, Jin Won,Lee, Tae Hee,Park, Sang Eun,Hong, Suk Young,Moon, Wooil M. 대한원격탐사학회 2000 International Symposium on Remote Sensing Vol.16 No.1

The series of forest Fires in Kangwon Province in April, 2000, were one of the mast serious ones in the Kang-won Province in recent years. The fire damaged areas are extensive and this paper investigates the utility of the satellite image data, particularly the RADARSAT SAR data. One of the main objectives of this study included evaluation of potential usefulness of the C-band RADARSAT data in the detection of forest fires in mountainous areas. Among several fire damaged sites, the area near Samchuk (city) was selected as the main study area and mufti-temporal RADARSAT(raw) data were acquired and the processed results were comparatively investigated with the IRS-1c data acquired shortly after the fire. To identify the burnt area from the undamaged background in the optical imagery, supervised classification and NDVI processing were carried out and tested with the IRS-1C data. For this experiment, several sets of raw RADARSAT standard and Fine mode (S4, F3, ascending orbit) data were processed and the final image was formed. In addition to the final image, sigma nought (σ°) was catnputed and compared for the burnt area against the undamaged areas. Because of the steep slopes in the study area and subsequent deviation from the flat surface scattering models, the fire scars in the sigma nought (σ°) image were not apparent. However, fire scars are slightly detected in the difference and ratio images obtained from the signal intensity data acquired at different dates (bath before and after fire). Texture analysis of the image data including the burnt areas were carried out using the Multiplicative Markov Random-Field (MMRF) algorithm. The detection of the fire damaged area from both standard mode and fine mode RADARSAT was not as straightforward as in optical data. However, Previous studies with ERS-1 S_AR and RADARSAT data in Indonesia and in the North American Plains indicate that C-band SAR data provide us with an effective tool for studying the forest fire damages. However, the application of C-band SAR data to the analysis of the forest fire areas requires careful processing of the data with realistic scattering models.

      • RE-4 : Corifollitropin alfa versus daily recombinant fsh treatment for controlled ovarian stimulation in poor responders

( Chung Hoon Kim ),( Jei Won Moon ),( Jin Young Min ),( Jun Woo Ahn ),( Sung Hoon Kim ),( Hee Dong Chae ),( Byung Moon Kang1 ) 대한산부인과학회 2014 대한산부인과학회 학술대회 Vol.100 No.-

목적: To compare the effect of long-acting recombinant FSH (rFSH), corifollitropin alfa with daily rFSH administered during 1st 7days of controlled ovarian stimulation (COS) using GnRH antagonist multiple dose protocol (MDP) in poor responders undergoing IVF/intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI). 방법: In this prospective randomized study total of 90 poor responders who were scheduled for IVF/ICSI were enrolled and divided into the corifollitropin alfa group (study group) or the daily rFSH group (control group). The diagnosis of poor responder was based on the Bologna criteria of the 2011 ESHRE consensus. In all subjects, GnRH antagonist MDP was used for COS. 결과: There were no differences in patients` characteristics between the two groups. Duration of COS was comparable between the study and control groups. The numbers of oocytes retrieved and grade I or II embryos were also similar in the two groups. However, the number of mature oocytes was higher in the study group with a borderline significance (p< .07) and the ratio of mature oocytes among total oocytes retrieved was significantly higher in the study group of 78.6 ± 13.0%, compared with 61.2 ± 16.0% in control group (p< .001). There were no differences in the clinical pregnancy rate per cycle initiated, embryo implantation rate and miscarriage rate between the two groups. 결론: Corifollitropin alfa is at least as effective as daily rFSH treatment for COS using GnRH antagonist MDP, and may improve the synchrony of follicular development in poor responders undergoing IVF/ICSI. Therefore, corifollitropin alfa may be a feasible, patient-friendly alternative for poor responders.

8-Hydroxydeoxyguanosine Induces Senescence-like Changes in KG-1, Human Acute Myelocytic Leukemia Cell Line

        Kang, Kyoung-Ah,Zhang, Rui,Piao, Mei-Jing,Park, Min-Jeong,Kwon, Ae-Ran,Kim, Bum-Joon,You, Ho-Jin,Chung, Myung-Hee,Hyun, Jin-Won Korean Society for Biotechnology and Bioengineerin 2007 Biotechnology and Bioprocess Engineering Vol.12 No.2

8-Hydroxydeoxyguanosine $(oh^8dG)$ treatment induced senescence-like changes in KG-1 cells, a human acute myelocytic leukemia cell line. The $oh^8dG-treated$ cells stained positive for senescence associated ${\beta}-galactosidase$ $(SA-{\beta}-galactosidase)$ and had enlarged cell shape, both of which are senescence indexes. The $oh^8dG-treated$ cells were also cell growth inhibited and arrested at $G_1$ in the cell cycle. The accumulation of cdk (cyclin dependent kinase) inhibitors, such as p16, p21, and p27, also implies that cellular senescence was induced in $oh^8dG-treated$ cells. However, these changes were not accompanied by cell differentiation or telomerase activity. Taken together, we conclude that $oh^8dG$ treatment of KG-1 cells induces cellular senescence.

      • Effects of Propolis on Sperm Function in Frozen-thawed Boar Semen

        Won-Hee Lee,Dong-Jae Jang,Yong Hwangbo,Byeong-Buhm Kang,Hee-Tae Cheong,Boo-Keun Yang,Choon-Keun Park 한국동물생명공학회(구 한국동물번식학회) 2017 Reproductive & Developmental Biology(Supplement) Vol.41 No.2

The aim of this study was to evaluate effect of Propolis on viability, acrosome reaction and mitochondrial intact in frozen-thawed boar sperm. The boar semen was collected by gloved-hand method and cryo-preserved in 11% lactose with 20% egg yolk (LEY) and Triladyl containing propolis (0, 10, 30, and 50 ng/mL) with 0.05% ethanol. Cryo-preserved boar sperms was thawed at 37.5℃ for 45 sec in water-bath. Sperm viability, acrosome reaction, and mitochondrial intact were analyzed using flow cytometry. In results, viability of frozen-thawed sperm, which was cryo-preserved using LEY and triladyl, was decreased in 0, 30, and 50 propolis treatment groups. However, there was no significant difference. Acrosome reaction and mitochondrial intact of sperm was not influenced by all of propolis treatment using both of freezing extender. Motility of frozen-thawed sperm with LEY containing 10 ng/mL propolis was significantly higher than in 0, 10, and 50 ng/mL propolis treatment groups (p<0.05), whereas there was no significant difference compared to control. Especially, 0 and 30 ng/mL propolis treatment groups were significantly decreased compared to control (p<0.05). Similar to result in frozen-thawed sperm with LEY, motility of frozen-thawed sperm with triladyl was significantly increased in 10 ng/mL propolis treatment groups compare to control and other propolis treatment groups (p<0.05). In conclusion, 10 ng/mL propolis improves mobility in frozen-thawed boar sperm with LEY and triladyl, whereas 30 and 50 ng/mL propolis reduced motility. But, the addition of propolis during cryopreservation did not influence to the membrane function of frozen-thawed spermatozoa. Therefore, it is necessary to continue the study on the effects of propolis on boar spermatozoa during cryopreservation.

Porosity- and content-controlled metal/metal oxide/metal carbide@carbon (M/MO/MC@C) composites derived from MOFs: mechanism study and application for lithium-ion batteries

Kang, Min Seok,Lee, Dae-Hyuk,Lee, Kyung-Jae,Kim, Hee Soo,Ahn, Jihoon,Sung, Yung-Eun,Yoo, Won Cheol The Royal Society of Chemistry 2018 New Journal of Chemistry Vol.42 No.23

<P>Implementation of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) as a precursor and/or template to synthesize metal/metal oxide/metal carbide nanoparticles within a carbon framework (M/MO/MC@C) <I>via</I> thermolysis has attracted considerable interest for electrochemical applications. In particular, the tunability of the weight content and crystallinity of M/MO/MC nanoparticles and porosity control of the morphology-preserved carbon matrix are highly desirable factors for governing the electrochemical performance of M/MO/MC@C composites. Herein, we report a facile synthesis method for adjusting the porosity, content, and crystallinity of M/MO/MC@C composites that are pseudomorphically converted from MOFs (M-HKUST-1, M: Cu and Zn; M-MOF-74, M: Co, Fe, Mg; and ZIF-8). Vapor phase polymerization (VPP), which is a site-specific gas-phase polymerization occurring at open metal sites of MOFs, was first employed to prepare morphology- and crystallinity-preserved polymer@MOF composites, which were then subjected to thermolysis to obtain M/MO@C composites. The polymer content used for VPP was directly related to the M/MO/MC nanoparticle weight content as well as the porosity of the carbon framework. In addition, crucial factors governing the crystallinity of final M/MO/MC nanoparticles were clearly classified in terms of the standard reduction potential of metal nodes and thermodynamic calculation for carbothermic reduction and carbide formation. To identify the advantages of morphology-preserved and content- and porosity-optimized MO@C composites for electrochemical applications, a series of CuO@C samples and CuO obtained from the direct oxidation of MOFs were tested as anode materials for lithium-ion batteries (LIBs). The optimized CuO@C sample exhibited superior electrochemical performance, for instance outstanding long-term stability with a remarkable specific capacity of 410 mA h g−1 after 1000 cycles at a rate of 1000 mA g−1.</P>

Genome-wide Identification, Classification, and Expression Analysis of the Receptor-Like Protein Family in Tomato

        Won-Hee Kang,Seon-In Yeom 한국식물병리학회 2018 Plant Pathology Journal Vol.34 No.5

Receptor-like proteins (RLPs) are involved in plant development and disease resistance. Only some of the RLPs in tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.) have been functionally characterized though 176 genes encoding RLPs, which have been identified in the tomato genome. To further understand the role of RLPs in tomato, we performed genome-guided classification and transcriptome analysis of these genes. Phylogenic comparisons revealed that the tomato RLP members could be divided into eight subgroups and that the genes evolved independently compared to similar genes in Arabidopsis. Based on location and physical clustering analyses, we conclude that tomato RLPs likely expanded primarily through tandem duplication events. According to tissue specific RNA-seq data, 71 RLPs were expressed in at least one of the following tissues: root, leaf, bud, flower, or fruit. Several genes had expression patterns that were tissue specific. In addition, tomato RLP expression profiles after infection with different pathogens showed distinguish gene regulations according to disease induction and resistance response as well as infection by bacteria and virus. Notably, Some RLPs were highly and/ or unique expressed in susceptible tomato to pathogen, suggesting that the RLP could be involved in disease response, possibly as a host-susceptibility factor. Our study could provide an important clues for further investigations into the function of tomato RLPs involved in developmental and response to pathogens.
