This work discusses the fabrication, development and potential response behaviors of Ag^+ ion-selective electrodes (Ag^+-ISE) based on N,N’-bis(2-hydroxybenzyl)-1,3-diaminopropane (L1) and N,N’-bis(2-hydroxybenzyl)-2,2-dimethyl-1,3-diaminopropane (L2) as carriers. The observations indicated that the resulting electrode based on L1 toward Ag^+ showed stable near-Nernst slope approaching 58.7 mV/dec and the optimum potential response characteristics in a linear range at least five orders of magnitude with a detection limit of 1.0×10^(-6) M. The proposed electrode displayed the preferential selectivity to Ag^+ against other tested cations. The excellent potential analytical characteristics could lead to the successful applications of silver assay in significant real samples, indicating that the proposed Ag^+-ISE showed a significant advancement of measurement capabilities.

제조기업이 생산정보화시스템(MES) 도입 시, 기업별로 생산환경의 특성이 모두 반영된 정보화로 추진되어야 하는 관계로 대기업과는 달리 중소기업에서 도입하는 데에 많은 어려움을 겪고 있다. 일반적으로 국내의 중소형 제조기업에서 MES 를 도입할 때 기업의 생산환경 특성을 반영하는 업종이나 규모, 생산방식 및 주문방식 등 요소를 고려하지 않고 획일적인 전략을 기반으로 도입을 하고 있으며, 이로 인해 도입 후에도 시스템이 제대로 활용되지 못하고 일부의 간단한 기능만을 사용하게 되거나, 이로 인한 사용자의 만족도가 낮아지는 등의 많은 문제점이 발생하고 있다. 본 논문에서는 생산정보화시스템(MES)의 효율적인 도입을 위해 웹 기반의 정보화 수준 진단시스템을 이용한 생산정보화의 보급/확산 전략을 도출한다. 또한 웹 포털 상에서 이해하기 쉽고 간단한 대화형식의 질문을 통해 해당 기업의 수준과 필요를 도출하여 맞춤형 생산정보화시스템(MES) 도입 가이드라인을 제시한다.
Aspergillus sensitization associated with current asthma in children: NHANES 2005-2006

OBJECTIVES: To investigate the association between allergen sensitization and current asthma in children from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 2005-2006. METHODS: Children from the NHANES 2005-2006, aged 6 to 19 years, were included in this study. A structured questionnaire was used to assess asthma status, including without asthma, asthma in remission, and current asthma. Nineteen specific IgE (sIgE) levels were measured using the Pharmacia Diagnostics ImmunoCAP 1000 System (Kalamazoo, Michigan, USA). A machine-learning method was applied to select important sIgEs related to childhood asthma. Multivariate regression analysis was used to test this hypothesis. RESULTS: A total of 2,875 children were recruited. The prevalence of ever having asthma and current asthma was, 16.5% and 5.6%, respectively. Six specific IgE levels were found to contribute to asthma using bootstrap forest selection. After adjusting for child’s sex, age, and family income, children with the double of sIgE levels of Dermatophagoides farinae, dog, and Aspergillus were related to current asthma, as compared to children without asthma [odds ratio (95% confident interval)= 1.11 (1.04-1.19), 1.30 (1.16-1.46), and 1.54 (1.38-1.72), respectively]. CONCLUSIONS: Our findings suggested that allergen sensitization, especially to Aspergillus, is associated with current asthma in children. Strategies to reduce sensitization may help prevent and manage asthma.
Carbon black sintering effects on the composition of multiphase calcium phosphate bioceramics

The presence of carbonate (CO3 2-) combined with calcium phosphates has been believed to increase the susceptibility of natural bone formation. This study was carried out to investigate the thermal properties of apatite in nano scale precipitates with added carbon black that could act as a sintering inhibitor and a carbonate preserver. In addition, the present study aimed to determine the effects of those additives and analyze their chemical compositions. Ceramics processed at different heating temperatures were compared and characterized. The results showed that a multiphase ceramic of apatite-calcium carbonate (CaCO3)-calcium oxide (CaO) was formed in a temperature range of 600 to 800 ο C. By observing the morphologies of the ceramics, the addition of carbon black which acts as a carbonate supplier in the heating processes and further as an inhibitor to prevent the sintering effect of the nano scale particles in sub-micro range efficiently at 1400 ο C were established.
Verticillium Wilt of Okra Caused by Verticillium dahliae Kleb. in China

Okra (Abelmoschus esculentus (L.) Moench) has gained more popularity as an economically significant plant for its nutritional and medicinal value, especially in China. During 2014-2016, the root disease of okra was discovered in four okra commercial fields surveyed in China. A fungul was isolated from the infected tissues, and was identified by Verticillium dahliae based on morphological characteristics. Pathogenicity test demonstrated that the fungus was pathogenic on okra, and fulfilled Koch’s postulates. The analysis of three sequences revealed 99-100% identity with the reported V. dahliae strain in GenBank. Neighbor-joining analysis of the gene sequences revealed that the representative isolates were clustered with V. dahliae. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of Verticillium wilt of okra in China.
Cilostazol ameliorates diabetic nephropathy by inhibiting highglucose-induced apoptosis

Diabetic nephropathy (DN) is a hyperglycemia-induced progressive development of renal insufficiency. Excessive glucose can increase mitochondrial reactive oxygen species (ROS) and induce cell damage, causing mitochondrial dysfunction. Our previous study indicated that cilostazol (CTZ) can reduce ROS levels and decelerate DN progression in streptozotocin (STZ)-induced type 1 diabetes. This study investigated the potential mechanisms of CTZ in rats with DN and in high glucose-treated mesangial cells. Male Sprague-Dawley rats were fed 5 mg/kg/day of CTZ after developing STZ-induced diabetes mellitus. Electron microscopy revealed that CTZ reduced the thickness of the glomerular basement membrane and improved mitochondrial morphology in mesangial cells of diabetic kidney. CTZ treatment reduced excessive kidney mitochondrial DNA copy numbers induced by hyperglycemia and interacted with the intrinsic pathway for regulating cell apoptosis as an antiapoptotic mechanism. In high-glucose-treated mesangial cells, CTZ reduced ROS production, altered the apoptotic status, and down-regulated transforming growth factor beta (TGF-β) and nuclear factor kappa light chain enhancer of activated B cells (NF-κB). Base on the results of our previous and current studies, CTZ deceleration of hyperglycemia-induced DN is attributable to ROS reduction and thereby maintenance of the mitochondrial function and reduction in TGF-β and NF-κB levels.

이 작업은 수송체로서 N,N'-bis(2-hydroxybenzyl)-1,3-diaminopropane (L1)과 N,N'-bis(2-hydroxybenzyl)-2,2-dimethyl-1,3-diaminopropane (L2)에 기초한 $Ag^+$ 이온-선택 전극의 제조, 개발 그리고 전압반응에 대해 토의한다. $Ag^+$에 대하여 L1에 기초한 전극은 58.7 mV/dec에 도달하는 안정한 Nernst에 가까운 기울기와 $1.0{\times}10^{-6}M$의 검출한계를 갖는 등급의 최소 다섯가지 순서의 선형범위에서 최적의 전압 반응 특징을 보이는 것을 나타낸다. 제안된 전극은 다른 테스트한 양이온과 비교하여 $Ag^+$에 우위의 선택성을 보였다. 훌륭한 전압 분석적 특징은 중요한 진짜 샘플에서 은의 순도분석의 성공적인 응용을 이끌 것이다. 그리고 그것은 제안된 $Ag^+$-ISE가 측정 능력의 중요한 진보를 보여준다는 것을 나타내고 있다. 그러나 L2에 기초한 전극에 대해서는, 약한 전압 반응 특징들이 전체 실험 과정에서 관측되었다. Chemical Constituents of the Root of Dystaenia takeshimana and Their Anti-Inflammatory Activity

In our ongoing search for bioactive compounds originating from the endemic species in Korea, we found that the hexane and EtOAc fractions of the MeOH extract from the root of Dystaenia takeshimana (Nakai) Kitagawa (Umbelliferae) showed cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) and 5- lipoxygenase (5-LOX) dual inhibitory activity by assessing their effects on the production of prostaglandin $D_2\;(PGD_2)$ and leukotriene $C_4\;(LTC_4)$ in mouse bone marrow-derived mast cells. By activity-guided fractionation, five coumarins, viz. psoralen (2), xanthotoxin (3), scopoletin (4), umbelliferone (5), and (+)-marmesin (6), together with ${\beta}-sitosterol$ (1), were isolated from the hexane fraction, and two phenethyl alcohol derivatives, viz. 2-methoxy-2-(4'-hydroxyphenyl)ethanol (7) and 2-hydroxy-2-(4'-hydroxyphenyl)ethanol (8), three flavonoids, viz. apigenin (9), luteolin (10), and cynaroside (11), as well as daucosterol (12) were isolated from the EtOAc fraction using silica gel column chromatography. In addition, D-mannitol (13) was isolated from the BuOH fraction by recrystallization. Two of the coumarins, scopoletin (4) and (+)- marmesin (6), the two phenethyl alcohol derivatives (7, 8) and the three flavonoids (9-11) were isolated for the first time from this plant. Among the compounds isolated from this plant, the five coumarins as well as the three flavonoids showed COX-2/5-LOX dual inhibitory activity. These results suggest that the anti-inflammatory activity of D. takeshimana might in part occur via the inhibition of the generation of eicosanoids.
