        Influence of Screw Rotors Tip Angle on Mixing Performance for One Novel Twin-screw Kneader

        Twin-screw kneader is an efficient polymer processing equipment. In this paper, the mixing performance of one novel intermeshing counter-rotating twin-screw kneader with different tip angles of the male rotor is simulated using the mesh superimposition technique (MST). Statistical analysis is carried out for the flow field using particle tracking technique, and distributive mixing performance is evaluated using the residence time distribution and segregation scale, while the dispersive mixing performance is estimated using the parameters such as shear rate, stretching rate and mixing index. The results show that the best distributive mixing performance is achieved when the tip angle is 0˚, while the optimal dispersive mixing performance is obtained when the tip angle is 20˚. The results in this paper provide a data basis for the selection of parameters and optimization of the performance for the screw rotors.

        Optimization of Induction and Culture Conditions and Tropane Alkaloid Production in Hairy Roots of Anisodus acutangulus

        In this study, an efficient transformation system for the medicinal plant Anisodus acutangulus was successfully developed and optimized using Agrobacterium rhizogenes. Three bacterial strains, A4, R1601, and modified C58C1 and three explant types, leaf blade, petiole, and stem, were examined. The highest transformation efficiency of 94.44% was achieved using strain C58C1 with stem explants. Over 20 independent hairy root lines were successfully established with strain C58C1 us-ing stem explants, all of which contained the rolB and rolC genes as confirmed by polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Out of four media compositions, the liquid 1/2 MS medium was found the most suitable for hairy root growth. The maximum bio-mass of one hairy root line increased up to 80 times in liquid 1/2 MS medium after a 30 day culture period. Different hairy root lines displayed a varied capacity for tropane alkaloid production and the best hairy root line (T4) from the C58C1-stem combination produced up to 10.21 mg/g (dw) of hyoscyamine, which was about 1.5-fold higher than in the wild type plants. To our knowledge, this is the first report to demonstrate the production of tropane alkaloids in hairy roots of A. acutangulus.

        BIOLOGICAL EFFECT OF INTRANASALLY INSTILLED TITANIUM DIOXIDE NANOPARTICLES ON FEMALE MICE

        The toxicological effect of TiO2 nanoparticles with different crystal structure (80 nm for rutile and 155 nm for anatase) on female mice was investigated through intranasal instillation. After exposure for 30 days at the dose of 50 mg/kg body weight, no abnormal activity and mortality were observed with the normally increasing body weight of mice. The coefficients of tissues to body weight also show no obvious difference from the control except the increased coefficient of kidneys in mice exposed to 80 nm TiO2 nanoparticles. Titanium contents and histopathology examination indicate the no pathological response in the lung was induced by the increased TiO2 deposition, and the liver, heart, and spleen were not influenced. The severe pathology changes in kidneys suggest that TiO2 nanoparticles may be excreted out by kidneys via system circulation. However, the serum biochemical parameters were not changed compared with the control, whichmeans no obvious functional impairment induced by the nasal exposure for 30 days. In addition, the higher titanium contents in the brain tissues imply that the translocation and deposition of nanoparticles through intranasal instilling pathway is different from the other routes such as intratracheal inhalation or intratracheal instillation. The influence of deposited nanoparticles on central nervous system needs further investigation and is underway.

        A semantic block is treated as a unit while analyzing the webpage. First, we implement the VTPS algorithm to partition a webpage into semantic blocks. Then, we propose an algorithm to extract the spatial and content features, and then construct the feature vector for each block. Based on these vectors, the SVM learning algorithm is applied to train and classify the various theme-oriented webpage blocks. At last, the classification experiments show the efficiency of this method.

        Pore evolution characteristics of Chinese marine shale in the thermal simulation experiment and the enlightenment for gas shale evaluation in South China

        Although there are many similarities between the shale of Cambrian Qiongzhusi Formation and Ordovician Wufeng Formation–Silurian Longmaxi Formation in South China, including total organic carbon content (TOC) and thickness, the drilling results of shale gas exploration are very different. One of the reasons is the difference of the nano-pores number developed in organic matter between them. In order to reveal the causes, the black shale of Upper Proterozoic Xiamaling Formation in North China, which is similar to the marine source rock in Sichuan basin, was selected for the thermal simulation experiment, and the pore size and volume of the samples before and after the experiment were acquired by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and nitrogen adsorption isotherm measurement. Through the SEM photographs, we found that the sizes of the organic pores in algae, dispersed organic matter and organic matter associated with clay minerals get bigger with the increasing maturity. The total pore volume, micro-pore volume and meso-pore volume of the shale acquired by nitrogen adsorption isotherm measurement increase with the increasing maturity, too. However, under the overburden pressure, micro-pore volume decreases at high maturity stage, indicating the pores in organic matter might be compressed. It is considered that the pore volume in organic matter of the shale of Qiongzhusi Formation might be compacted under greater confining pressure, which may be the reason why the pore structures of the two sets of marine shale in South China are different.

        Prevalence, Risk Factors, and Psychological Effects of Overactive Bladder in Chinese University Students

        Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the prevalence and risk factors of overactive bladder (OAB) in young adults and to explore the influence of OAB on mental health. Methods: Between October 2019 and January 2020, 14,010 anonymous questionnaires were distributed to freshmen at 2 universities in Henan, China. The students came from all over the country. The questionnaire included general items and information necessary to calculate the overactive bladder symptom score, the Chinese version of the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) score, Self-Esteem Scale (SES) score, and Self-Rating Depression Scale (SDS) score. The relationships between the prevalence of OAB and its risk factors were evaluated. Results: The overall prevalence of OAB was 6.0%, with 4.3% of participants characterized as having dry OAB and 1.7% as having wet OAB. The prevalence of mild OAB was 5.5%, and that of moderate OAB was 0.5%; no severe OAB was observed. Higher prevalence rates of OAB were found among women, respondents with constipation, and respondents with primary nocturnal enuresis (PNE) (P <0.05). Compared to healthy controls, the OAB group exhibited a higher mean SDS score (52.12±8.986 vs. 47.71±9.399, P<0.001) and mean PSQI score (5.28±2.486 vs. 4.27±2.431, P<0.001), but a lower mean SES score (27.78±3.599 vs. 29.57±4.109, P<0.001). Conclusions: OAB significantly affects the mental health of young adults. Female sex, constipation, and PNE are risk factors for OAB.
