Constructing ZnCo2O4@CTP microspheres as a high-energy lithium storage material

        Yu-Rui Ji,Si-Yu Qi,Jian-Cang Wang,Pengfei Wang,Ning Ren,Ting-Feng Yi 한국공업화학회 2023 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.120 No.-

Transition metal oxides are deemed as a promising substitute for graphite anode materials of Li-ion batteries(LIBs) on account of their large specific capacity. Nonetheless, the large volume change in the processof charging and discharging leads to low capacity retention. Herein, a well-designed ZnCo2O4@coaltar pitch based porous carbon (ZCO-CTP) microsphere is prepared to construct the high-performanceanode of LIBs. The coating modification of CTP significantly reduces the polarization and charge transferresistance and improves the migration ability of ions and electrons, thus achieving a superior reversiblecapacity and cycling stability of ZCO-CTP anode. The battery with obtained ZCO-CTP5 provides a largecharge capacity of 406.17 mAh/g at 1000 mA g1 compared with pristine ZCO (only 157.78 mAh/g). Even after 1000 cycles at 1000 mA g1, the battery can achieve a charge/discharge capacity of598.46/601.17 mAh/g. We believe that the application of CTP will provide a new perspective for theexploitation of high-performance anode materials for LIBs.

Dissecting Causal Relationships Between Gut Microbiota, Blood Metabolites, and Stroke: A Mendelian Randomization Study

        Wang Qi,Dai Huajie,Hou Tianzhichao,Hou Yanan,Wang Tiange,Lin Hong,Zhao Zhiyun,Li Mian,Zheng Ruizhi,Wang Shuangyuan,Lu Jieli,Xu Yu,Liu Ruixin,Ning Guang,Wang Weiqing,Bi Yufang,Zheng Jie,Xu Min 대한뇌졸중학회 2023 Journal of stroke Vol.25 No.3

Background and Purpose We investigated the causal relationships between the gut microbiota (GM), stroke, and potential metabolite mediators using Mendelian randomization (MR). Methods We leveraged the summary statistics of GM (n=18,340 in the MiBioGen consortium), blood metabolites (n=115,078 in the UK Biobank), and stroke (cases n=60,176 and controls n=1,310,725 in the Global Biobank Meta-Analysis Initiative) from the largest genome-wide association studies to date. We performed bidirectional MR analyses to explore the causal relationships between the GM and stroke, and two mediation analyses, two-step MR and multivariable MR, to discover potential mediating metabolites. Results Ten taxa were causally associated with stroke, and stroke led to changes in 27 taxa. In the two-step MR, <i>Bifidobacteriales</i> order, <i>Bifidobacteriaceae</i> family, <i>Desulfovibrio</i> genus, apolipoprotein A1 (ApoA1), phospholipids in high-density lipoprotein (HDL_PL), and the ratio of apolipoprotein B to ApoA1 (ApoB/ApoA1) were causally associated with stroke (all <i>P</i><0.044). The causal associations between <i>Bifidobacteriales</i> order, <i>Bifidobacteriaceae</i> family and stroke were validated using the weighted median method in an independent cohort. The three GM taxa were all positively associated with ApoA1 and HDL_PL, whereas <i>Desulfovibrio</i> genus was negatively associated with ApoB/ApoA1 (all <i>P</i><0.010). Additionally, the causal associations between the three GM taxa and ApoA1 remained significant after correcting for the false discovery rate (all q-values <0.027). Multivariable MR showed that the associations between <i>Bifidobacteriales</i> order, <i>Bifidobacteriaceae</i> family and stroke were mediated by ApoA1 and HDL_PL, each accounting for 6.5% (<i>P</i>=0.028) and 4.6% (<i>P</i>=0.033); the association between <i>Desulfovibrio</i> genus and stroke was mediated by ApoA1, HDL_PL, and ApoB/ApoA1, with mediated proportions of 7.6% (<i>P</i>=0.019), 4.2% (<i>P</i>=0.035), and 9.1% (<i>P</i>=0.013), respectively. Conclusion The current MR study provides evidence supporting the causal relationships between several specific GM taxa and stroke and potential mediating metabolites.

Comparison of Liver Transplantation and Liver Resection for Hepatocellular Carcinoma Patients with Portal Vein Tumor Thrombus Type I and Type II

        Jia-Yu Lv,Ning-Ning Zhang,Ya-Wei Du,Ying Wu,Tian-Qiang Song,Ya-Min Zhang,Yan Qu,Yu-Xin Liu,Jie Gu,Ze-Yu Wang,Yi-Bo Qiu,Bing Yang,Da-Zhi Tian,Qing-Jun Guo,Li Zhang,Ji-San Sun,Yan Xie,Zheng-Lu Wang,Xin 연세대학교의과대학 2021 Yonsei medical journal Vol.62 No.1

Purpose: The aim of this study was to compare the efficacy of liver transplantation (LT) and liver resection (LR) for hepatocellularcarcinoma (HCC) patients with portal vein tumor thrombus (PVTT) and to investigate risk factors affecting prognosis. Materials and Methods: A total of 94 HCC patients with PVTT type I (segmental PVTT) and PVTT type II (lobar PVTT) were involvedand divided into LR (n=47) and LT groups (n=47). Recurrence-free survival (RFS) and overall survival (OS) were comparedbefore and after inverse probability of treatment weighting (IPTW). Prognostic factors for RFS and OS were explored. Results: Two treatment groups were well-balanced using IPTW. In the entire cohort, LT provided a better prognosis than LR. Among patients with PVTT type I, RFS was better with LT (p=0.039); OS was not different significantly between LT and LR(p=0.093). In subgroup analysis of PVTT type I patients with α-fetoprotein (AFP) levels >200 ng/mL, LT elicited significantly longermedian RFS (18.0 months vs. 2.1 months, p=0.022) and relatively longer median OS time (23.6 months vs. 9.8 months, p=0.065). Among patients with PVTT type II, no significant differences in RFS and OS were found between LT and LR (p=0.115 and 0.335,respectively). Multivariate analyses showed treatment allocation (LR), tumor size (>5 cm), AFP and aspartate aminotransferase(AST) levels to be risk factors of RFS and treatment allocation (LR), AFP and AST as risk factors for OS. Conclusion: LT appeared to afford a better prognosis for HCC with PVTT type I than LR, especially in patients with AFP levels>200 ng/mL.

Tri-metal-based hollow nanorods-on-microrod arrays as efficient water splitting electrocatalysts

        Jianzhi Wang,Hongliang Yu,Xianming Wang,Chen Chen,Shuaijie Li,Ning Cai,Weimin Chen,Yanan Xue,Hui Li,Faquan Yu 한국공업화학회 2022 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.105 No.-

Constructing ordered hierarchical porous electrocatalysts while maintaining their high efficiency and stabilityfor oxygen evolution reaction (OER) and hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) is highly desirable butstill remains challenging. Herein, hierarchical tri-metal-based hollow nano/micro rod-on-rod array structures, including hydroxides and phosphates, are vertically grown on Cu foam by the cation-exchangingand anion exchanging approaches. Such ordered porous architecture, providing multi metal center, regularinterconnection of macropore channel, large electrochemical surface area, small charge-transferresistance, efficient mass transport and electron transfer for overall water splitting in alkaline media. These obtained hydroxide OER catalysts (CoMn LDH@Cu(OH)2/CF) and phosphide HER catalysts(CoMnP@Cu3P/CF) exhibited low onset potential, low Tafel slope, and prominent durability. Such excellentperformance, ordered porous structure and simple preparation methods indicate that this study providesa new strategy for assembling promising catalysts for water splitting and other applications.

      • Network Analysis of microRNAs, Genes and their Regulation in Mantle Cell Lymphoma

Deng, Si-Yu,Guo, Xiao-Xin,Wang, Ning,Wang, Kun-Hao,Wang, Shang Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2015 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.16 No.2

The pathogenesis of mantle cell lymphoma, a special subtype of lymphoma that is invasive and indolent and has a median survival of 3 to 4 years, is still partially unexplained. Much research about genes and miRNAs has been conducted in recent years, but interactions and regulatory relations of genetic elements which may play a vital role in genesis of MCL have attracted only limited attention. The present study concentrated on regulatory relations about genes and miRNAs contributing to MCL pathogenesis. Numerous experimentally validated raw data were organized into three topology networks, comprising differentially expressed, associated and global examples. Comparison of similarities and dissimilarities of the three regulating networks, paired with the analysis of the interactions between pairs of elements in every network, revealed that the differentially expressed network illuminated the carcinogenicity mechanism of MCL and the related network further described the regulatory relations involved, including prevention, diagnosis, development and therapy. Three kinds of regulatory relations for host genes including miRNAs, miRNAs targeting genes and genes regulating miRNAs were concluded macroscopically. Regulation of the differentially expressed miRNAs was also analyzed, in terms of abnormal gene expression affecting the MCL pathogenesis. Special regulatory relations were uncovered. For example, auto-regulatory loops were found in the three topology networks, key pathways of the nodes being highlighted. The present study focused on a novel point of view revealing important influencing factors for MCL pathogenesis.

Angiotensin I Converting Enzyme (ACE) Inhibitory Activity and Antihypertensive Effects of Grass Carp Peptides

        Wang Shen,Lin Li-mei,Wu Yong-ning,Fang Min,Yu Ya-qin,Zhou Jia,Gong Zhi-yong 한국식품과학회 2014 Food Science and Biotechnology Vol.23 No.5

In vitro and in vivo antihypertensive effects ofgrass carp peptides (GCP) were investigated. The aminoacid composition and the angiotensinconverting enzymeinhibitory activity were evaluated using HPLC. GCP wasadministrated to spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHRs)and Wistar Kyoto rats (WKY) by single and long-termadministration before blood pressure measurements. Plasma levels of angiotensin II (Ang II), rennin (RA), nitricoxide (NO), and plasma angiotensin I converting enzyme(ACE) activity were measured. The GCP molecular weightwas between 725 and 1,228 Da with high levels of Leu,Asp, Phe, Gly, and Pro. The in vitro IC50 value was 0.23mg/mL. GCP lowered SHR blood pressure dose and timedependently. Little change occurred in WKY. The plasmalevel of Ang II and the ACE activity decreased. SHR RAand NO concentrations in plasma increased. Theantihypertensive effect of GCP was associated with NOregulation and the rennin-angiotensin system.

Post-Acute Care as a Key Component in a Healthcare System for Older Adults

        Yu-Chun Wang,Ming-Yueh Chou,Chih-Kuang Liang,Li-Ning Peng,Liang-Kung Chen,Ching-Hui Loh 대한노인병학회 2019 Annals of geriatric medicine and research Vol.23 No.2

Older adults often experience functional decline following acute medical care. This func-tional decline may lead to permanent disability, which will increase the burden on the medical and long-term care systems, families, and society as a whole. Post-acute care aims to promote the functional recovery of older adults, prevent unnecessary hospital readmission, and avoid premature admission to a long-term care facility. Research has shown that post-acute care is a cost-effective service model, with both the hospital-at-home and community hospital post-acute care models being highly effective. This paper describes the post-acute care models of the United States and the United Kingdom and uses the example of Taiwan’s highly effective post-acute care system to explain the bene-fits and importance of post-acute care. In the face of rapid demographic aging and smaller household size, a post-acute care system can lower medical costs and improve the health of older adults after hospitalization.

Numerical investigation on combined wave damping effect of pneumatic breakwater and submerged breakwater

Wang, Yanxu,Yin, Zegao,Liu, Yong,Yu, Ning,Zou, Wei The Society of Naval Architects of Korea 2019 International Journal of Naval Architecture and Oc Vol.11 No.1

This paper attempts to combine the pneumatic breakwater and submerged breakwater to increase the effectiveness of wave damping for long-period waves. A series of physical experiments concerning pneumatic breakwater, submerged breakwater and their joint breakwater was conducted and used to validate a mathematical model based on Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations, the RNG $k-{\varepsilon}$ turbulence model and the VOF method. In addition, the mathematical model was used to investigate the wave transmission coefficients of three breakwaters. The nonlinear wave propagation behaviors and the energy transfer from lower frequencies to higher frequencies after the submerged breakwater were investigated in detail. Furthermore, an optimal arrangement between pneumatic breakwater and submerged breakwater was obtained for damping longer-period waves that cannot be damped effectively by the pneumatic breakwater alone. In addition, the reason for the appearance of the combination effect is that part of the energy of the transmitted waves over the submerged breakwater transfers to shorter-period waves. Finally, the impact of the joint breakwater on the wave field during wave propagation process was investigated.

      • Clinical Utility of Haptoglobin in Combination with CEA, NSE and CYFRA21-1 for Diagnosis of Lung Cancer

Wang, Bing,He, Yu-Jie,Tian, Ying-Xing,Yang, Rui-Ning,Zhu, Yue-Rong,Qiu, Hong Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.22

Purpose: To investigate the clinical value in lung cancer of a combination of four serum tumor markers, haptoglobin (Hp), carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA), neuron specific enolase (NSE) as well as the cytokeratin 19 fragment (CYFRA21-1). Materials and Methods: Serum Hp (with immune-turbidimetric method), CEA, NSE, CYFRA21-1 (with chemiluminescence method) level were assessed in 193 patients with lung cancer, 87 patients with benign lung disease and 150 healthy controls. Differences of expression were compared among groups, and joint effects of these tumor markers for the diagnosis of lung cancer were analyzed. Results: Serum tumor marker levels in patients with lung cancer were obviously higher than those with benign lung disease and normal controls (p<0.01). The sensitivities of Hp, CEA, NSE and CYFRA21-1 were 43.5%, 40.9%, 23.3% and 41.5%, with specificities of 90.7%, 99.2%, 97.9% and 97.9%. Four tumor markers combined together could produce a positive detection rate of 85.0%, significantly higher than that of any single test. With squamous carcinomas, the positive detection rates with Hp and CYFRA21-1 were higher than that of other markers. In the adenocarcinoma case, the positive detection rate of CEA was higher than that of other markers. For small cell carcinomas, the positive detection rate of NSE was highest. The area under receiver operating characteristic curve ($AUC^{ROC}$) of Hp in squamous carcinoma (0.805) was higher than in adenocarcinoma (0.664) and small cell carcinoma (0.665). Conclusions: Hp can be used as a new serum tumor marker for lung cancer. Combination detection of Hp, CEA, NSE and CYFRA21-1 could significantly improve the sensitivity and specificity in diagnosis of lung cancer, and could be useful for pathological typing.

      • Low-dose Radiation Induces Antitumor Effects and Erythrocyte System Hormesis

Yu, Hong-Sheng,Liu, Zi-Min,Yu, Xiao-Yun,Song, Ai-Qin,Liu, Ning,Wang, Hao Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2013 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.14 No.7

Objective: Low dose radiation may stimulate the growth and development of animals, increase life span, enhance fertility, and downgrade the incidence of tumor occurrence. The aim of this study was to investigate the antitumor effect and hormesis in an erythrocyte system induced by low-dose radiation. Methods: Kunming strain male mice were subcutaneously implanted with S180 sarcoma cells in the right inguen as an experimental in situ animal model. Six hours before implantation, the mice were given 75mGy whole body X-ray radiation. Tumor growth was observed 5 days later, and the tumor volume was calculated every other day. Fifteen days later, all mice were killed to measure the tumor weight, and to observe necrotic areas and tumor-infiltration-lymphoreticular cells (TILs). At the same time, erythrocyte immune function and the level of 2,3-diphosphoglyceric acid (2,3-DPG) were determined. Immunohistochemical staining was used to detect the expression of EPO and VEGFR of tumor tissues. Results: The mice pre-exposed to low dose radiation had a lower tumor formation rate than those without low dose radiation (P < 0.05). The tumor growth slowed down significantly in mice pre-exposed to low dose radiation; the average tumor weight in mice pre-exposed to low dose radiation was lighter too (P < 0.05). The tumor necrosis areas were larger and TILs were more in the radiation group than those of the group without radiation. The erythrocyte immune function, the level of 2,3-DPG in the low dose radiation group were higher than those of the group without radiation (P < 0.05). After irradiation the expression of EPO of tumor tissues in LDR group decreased with time. LDR-24h, LDR-48h and LDR-72h groups were all statistically significantly different from sham-irradiation group. The expression of VEGFR also decreased, and LDR-24h group was the lowest (P < 0.05). Conclusion: Low dose radiation could markedly increase the anti-tumor ability of the organism and improve the erythrocyte immune function and the ability of carrying $O_2$. Low-dose total body irradiation, within a certain period of time, can decrease the expression of hypoxia factor EPO and VEGFR, which may improve the situation of tumor hypoxia and radiosensitivity of tumor itself.
