        Blood lipids and all-cause mortality among old people: the Chinese Longitudinal Healthy Longevity Survey 2008-2018

        OBJECTIVES: Proper blood lipid levels are essential for survival in older adults, but inconsistent relationships have been reported between blood lipids and all-cause mortality in the elderly. METHODS: This retrospective longitudinal study analyzed data from 1,067 Chinese older adults enrolled in the Chinese Longitudinal Healthy Longevity Survey collected in 2008 and followed up until death or December 31, 2018. The outcome was allcause mortality. Multivariate Cox regression analyses were used to estimate hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) with stratification by age (60-80, 80-100, or ≥ 100 years) for further analysis. The survival probability according to lipid profile quartiles was calculated using Kaplan-Meier curves and the log-rank test. RESULTS: The participants’ mean age was 84.84 years, and 57.0% were female. In total, 578 individuals died, and 277 were lost to follow-up. The mean total cholesterol (TC), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) levels were higher among those who died than among those who survived. Participants in the second HDL-C quartile and the highest LDL-C and triglyceride (TG) quartiles had 28% higher, 23% lower, and 49% lower risks of all-cause mortality, respectively. After further adjustment, the associations remained except for HDL-C, and additional associations were observed between all-cause mortality and the third TC and LDL-C quartiles and the second TG quartile (HR, 1.44; 95% CI, 1.01 to 2.06; HR, 0.68; 95% CI, 0.49 to 0.94; HR, 0.79; 95% CI, 0.62 to 0.99, respectively). CONCLUSIONS: Older adults should maintain an LDL-C level of 1.91-2.47 mmol/L and a TG level of no less than 1.66 mmol/L.

      • Data Fusion Based Phase Space Reconstruction from Multi-Time Series

        Focused on the problem of imperfect information in the process of reconstruction from single time series, a new technology for phase space reconstruction from multi-time series based on the data fusion is proposed. Firstly, the methods Cao and mutual information are used to select the reconstruction parameters, time delay and embedded dimension; secondly, the social cognitive optimization algorithm is brought to calculate the weights for each variable; thirdly, an adaptive weighted fusion estimating method is applied for data fusion; lastly, the effectiveness of the methods mentioned in this paper is demonstrated by the analysis results of one case study of real chemical plant data sets, and the proposed methods in this paper can improve the completeness of the information of the reconstructed phase space, which is also a good foundation for further analysis of complex system.

        How Job Stress and Psychological Adaptation Predicting Interpersonal Needs Among Female Migrant Manufacturing Workers in China: A Structural Equation Model

        Background: This study aimed to explore relationships between job stress and psychological adaptation and how they related to interpersonal needs through mood states among female migrant manufacturing workers. Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted in 16 factories in Shenzhen, China. Sociodemographic, job stress, psychological adaptation and other psychological information of was collected. Structural equation modeling was performed to delineate the internal relationship between variables. Results: The hypothetical structural equation model exhibited acceptable model fit among female migrant manufacturing workers (c2 ¼ 11.635, df ¼ 2, c2/df ¼ 5.82, p ¼ 0.003, RMSEA ¼ 0.090, CFI ¼ 0.972, SRMR ¼ 0.020). Job stress was directly associated with mood states and interpersonal needs; Psychological adaptation was directly associated with mood states and indirectly associated with interpersonal needs; Bootstrapping tests demonstrated mediation effect of mood states in the way from psychological adaptation to interpersonal needs. Conclusion: Female migrant manufacturing workers who suffered stress from job and the process of psychological adaptation may have worse mood states and workers with worse mood states are more likely to develop unmet interpersonal needs, a proximal factor of suicidal ideation.

        Investigation on energy dissipation and its mechanism of coal under dynamic loads

        The energy dissipation of coal under dynamic loads is a major issue in geomechanics and arising extensive concerns recently. In this study, dynamic loading tests of coal were conducted using a split Hopkinson pressure bar (SHPB) system, the characteristics of dynamic behavior and energy dissipation of coal were analyzed, and the mechanism of energy dissipation was discussed based on the fracture processes of coal under dynamic loads. Experimental results indicate that the energy dissipation of coal under dynamic loads has a positive linear correlation with both incident energy and dynamic compressive strength, and the correlation coefficients between incident energy, dynamic compressive strength and the energy dissipation rate are 0.74 and 0.98, respectively. Theoretical analysis demonstrates that higher level of stress leads to greater energy released during unstable crack propagation, thus resulting in larger energy dissipation rate of coal under dynamic loads. At last, a semi-empirical energy dissipation model is proposed for describing the positive relationship between dissipated energy and stress.

        Numerical simulation of pressure relief in hard coal seam by water jet cutting

        The applications of water jet cutting (WJC) in coal mine have progressed slowly. In this paper, we analyzed the possibility and reasonableness of WJC application to pressure relief in hard coal seam, simulated the distributive characteristics of stress and energy fields suffered by hard coal roadway wallrock and the internal relationships of the fields to the instability due to WJC (including horizontal radial slot and vertical annular slot) on roadway wallrock. The results showed that: (1) WJC can unload hard coal seam effectively by inducing stress release and energy dissipation in coal mass near its slots; its annular slots also can block or weaken stress and energy transfer in coal mass; (2) the two slots may cause "the beam structure" and "the small pillar skeleton", and "the layered energy reservoir structure", respectively, which lead to the increase in stress concentration and energy accumulation in coal element mass near the slots; (3) the reasonable design and optimization of slots' positions and their combination not only can significantly reduce the scope of stress concentration and energy accumulation, but also destroy coal mass structure on a larger scale to force stress to transfer deeper coal mass.

        Novel blood-based hypomethylation of SH3BP5 is associated with very early-stage lung adenocarcinoma

        Background: Early detection is essential to improve the survival of lung cancer (LC). The quantitative measurement of specific DNA methylation changes in the peripheral blood could provide an efficient strategy for the detection of early cancer. Objective: We applied a candidate approach and assess the association between blood-based SH3BP5 methylation and the risk of lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) in a case-control cohort. Methods: The methylation level of four CpG sites in the promoter of SH3BP5 gene was quantitatively determined by mass spectrometry in 171 very early-stage LUAD patients (93.6% LUAD at stage I) and 190 age and gender-matched controls. The logistic regression and non-parametric tests were used for the statistical analyses. Results: We observed a significant association between decreased methylation of SH3BP5_CpG_4 in the peripheral blood and increased risk of LUAD (odds ratio (OR) per-10% methylation = 1.51, P = 0.006, FDR = 0.024), and even for the LUAD at stage I (OR per-10% methylation = 1.53, P = 0.006, FDR = 0.024). Moreover, the lower quartile of SH3BP5_CpG_4 methylation was correlated with increased risk for LUAD with a P trend of 0.011. Further investigation disclosed that the hypomethylation of SH3BP5_CpG_4 was mostly associated with LUAD in younger subjects (OR per-10% methylation = 2.02, P = 0.010, age < 55 years old) and probably could be enhanced by advance stage. Conclusion: Our study revealed an association between blood-based SH3BP5 hypomethylation and very early-stage LUAD, which provides a novel support for the blood-based methylation signatures as a potential marker for the evaluation of cancer risk.
