The genus Empetrum (family: Empetraceae) represents an abundant source of biologically active compounds with wide range of pharmacological effects. Empetrum species are widespread throughout the Northern hemisphere and extensively used in traditional medicine. Although biological effects of these plants have been studying for decades, recent analytical methods along with in vivo experiments provide new data on chemical compounds extracted from the species and their biological activities. This review focuses on phytochemistry, pharmacology and known biological effects of chemical compounds extracted from genus Empetrum to explore their therapeutic potential, particularly in seizure and other neurological disorders and includes an overview of scientific literature concerning the genus Empetrum published between 1987 and 2021.

Prompt and delayed neutrons (DN) from pulsed irradiation of geometrically identical natural uranium and lead targets by 1 and 4 GeV deuterons were measured at NUCLOTRON facility of Joint Institute for Nuclear Research. The massive hexagonal shaped targets were surrounded by 10 cm lead blanket. Neutrons were measured by the assembly of ^3He counters embedded in moderator and by threshold activation detectors. The DN decay curves were analysed for both targets and information on fission properties for massive (∼315 kg) uranium target was extracted. The obtained experimental information could be useful for verification of INC and transport codes. The results of this experiment are important for development of advanced ADS systems and other applications.

Temperature dependence of the lifetime of nonequilibrium charge carriers limited by recombination process in a p-n junction space-charge region has been obtained from currentevoltage, capacitance evoltage and thermometric characteristics of GaP p+-n junctions in the temperature range 150-500 K. The results have been refined using the data of the junction relaxation characteristics. Parameters of the carriers' lifetime sensitivity to the temperature and current have been determined. It has been established that the charge carriers recombine predominantly through deep single-level amphoteric-type centres. The depth of the centres makes approx. (EC-1.25 eV). We suppose that the nature of the centres formation is not connected with the junction fabrication technology. It has rather fundamental origin. The results of the present investigation could be used in the development of devices based on wide bandgap semiconductors and particularly high temperature diode sensors.
Phenol decomposition in water cathode of DC atmospheric pressure discharge in air

We studied phenol decomposition in aqueous solution under the action of DC discharge at atmospheric pressure in air. The decomposition efficiency was 0.017 molecules per 100 eV. When the kinetics of forming destruction products was studied in detail, the peculiarities of air plasma action were revealed for the first time. Plasma action not only results in the formation of oxygen-containing products, which are usually formed under oxygen plasma action (hydroxyhenols, carboxylic acids, aldehydes), but also the formation of nitro phenols. The treatment is accompanied by hydrogen peroxide formation, a pH decrease, and nitric and nitrous acids formation. We also discussed the possible mechanism of the processes and the role of some active species in chemical transformations after determining some parameters of the discharge.
