Coach Communication of Non-Selection in Youth Competitive Sport
A. Lauren Capstick,Pierre Trudel 한국코칭능력개발원 2010 International Journal of Coaching Science Vol.4 No.1
Previous research in youth sport has overlooked the experience of non-selection from the collective perspectives of all those involved. The purpose of this descriptive research was to gain understanding about the communication of non-selection within competitive youth sport, while also seeking to investigate the methods used by coaches to inform youth of their non-selection. This qualitative research involved interviews employed within an interpretive phenomenological analysis (IPA). Participants (n=15) were comprised of coaches, athletes, and parents. Findings indicate that coaches, athletes, and parents all consider the task of communicating non-selection to be troublesome. An inventory of communication methods used by coaches to inform athletes of their tryout results was created by noting the experiences of all participants. Lastly, coach profiles revealed that coaches make communication choices based on factors such as their past experience, willingness to provide feedback, as well as the age of their athletes. Findings highlight the importance of experiential learning, as coaches learn primarily about the process of communicating non-selection through their experiences as coaches and as parents.

In North America, intercollegiate sport is, in many cases, a stepping-stone in building a professional career for its actors. The quality of programs offered to athletes depends on many factors, including quality coaching. Effective university sport coaches have to help athletes reach athletic excellence while managing large-scale programs and supporting their athletes’ holistic development. Recent research on coach learning has suggested that providing coaches access to a personal learning coach offers valuable support because it provides a safe environment to reflect and act on their actual coaching practice. The purpose of this study was to examine the evolution, and to assess the value creation of a 12-month learning journey of two intercollegiate head coaches who were supported by a personal learning coach. Results show that these two coaches’ learning journeys had different learning activities and addressed diverse coaching topics. Collaborating with a personal learning also nurtured the creation of multiple types of values for both coaches’ practice.
A Brief Online Survey to Help a Sport Organization Continue to Develop its Coach Education Program

The National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) in Canada, and its sport specific partner in alpine ski racing, the Canadian Ski Coaches Federation (CSCF), are both in the process of re-designing their coach education training programs to become more congruent with a lifelong learning perspective. In this article, the authors explore (a) how the CSCF can use the results of a brief online membership survey to know more about who their coaches are, (b) what are the coaches’ perceptions on a few key learning situations, and (c) how this information can be used by the CSCF to continue to develop its coach education program.

Objective: A case is presented that focuses on a not.for.profit organization which offers multiple services while having a costing base which is essentially fixed. At issue is determining a fee structure for the services provided. The organization is a community foundation which acts as custodian and disburser of several endowments designated for differing purposes. Methods: To assist in determining an appropriate fee structure, an activity based costing (ABC) analysis is employed in an attempt to provide decision.relevant product (endowment).level information. ABC provides an approach for allocating costs to products when costs are not directly or easily traceable to the products. Activity based costing is advocated for service and health care organizations, most of which have predominantly fixed costs. Results: The analysis presented uses an activity based costing approach to allocate the costs of the community foundation to its eight funds. The analysis provides insight with respect to the resources consumed by each of the products. In turn, the measures of this resource consumption may be used in determining an appropriate fee structure. Conclusion: The principles applied in this case are applicable to organizations with largely fixed costs and various services and products, such as hospitals and other health care organizations.

This study of the irradiation chemistry of hexamethyldi-siloxane 3dsorbed onto silica shows some product yields to be markedly enhanced by the presence of the silica while other products have sharply diminished yields. Control of the surface composition has allwed the determination of the interphase reactions occurring, while changes in extent of surface cover- age have shown the enhancement to occur predominantly at the surface of the particle. Chemisorption to the surface of the silica is a major result of the irradiation of physisorbed MM. The effects of various parameters on the products and on the interaction between the MM and silica is interpreted on the basis of an energy transfer mechanism. Details of this mech-anism will be described in a future publication.
