Summary of United Kingdom Trade Controls
Trevor Wood,이상모 한국안보통상학회 2007 안보통상연구 Vol.1 No.2
Trevor Wood is Chief Operating Officer of Interexport Management Systems (IMS) based in London, UK. IMS are involved in a range of export control training activities worldwide and support the US and UK governments in their work. IMS has also developed the Checker tools for the UK (see http://www.ecochecker.co.uk) and undertook and Impact Assessment Study for the European Commission on possible changes to the EU Dual Use Items Regulation 1334/200 (see http://trade.ec.europa.eu/doclib/docs/2006/april/tradoc_127589.2.pdf). Trevor spent 9 years at the Export Control Organization in the UK, initially as a Technical Officer involved in developing the first EU Dual Use List and then as ‘Head of the Licensing Group’which involved managing all aspects of export licence processing in the UK. Trevor can be contacted at ‘twood@interexport.co.uk’ or at +44 20 8554 3435.

We report the construction and analysis of 4,836 heterozygous diploid deletion mutants covering 98.4% of the fission yeast genome providing a tool for studying eukaryotic biology. Comprehensive gene dispensability comparisons with budding yeast—the only other eukaryote for which a comprehensive knockout library exists—revealed that 83% of single-copy orthologs in the two yeasts had conserved dispensability. Gene dispensability differed for certain pathways between the two yeasts, including mitochondrial translation and cell cycle checkpoint control. We show that fission yeast has more essential genes than budding yeast and that essential genes are more likely than nonessential genes to be present in a single copy, to be broadly conserved and to contain introns. Growth fitness analyses determined sets of haploinsufficient and haploproficient genes for fission yeast, and comparisons with budding yeast identified specific ribosomal proteins and RNA polymerase subunits, which may act more generally to regulate eukaryotic cell growth.

Polyether block amides (PEBA) composite membranes were prepared by dispersing different two dimensional (2D) layered nanomaterials such as graphene, graphene oxide and molybdenum disulphide (MoS2) in PEBA matrix. These composite membranes were applied for the pervaporation separation of butyric acid produced by anaerobic digestion (AD) of perennial grass. Among all the tested membranes PEBA–graphene membrane showed the best performance with butyric acid flux og 24.3 g/m2h and separation factor of 21. Further on varying the graphene content in the membranes showed improved separation efficiency with increased thermal and mechanical properties of the membranes
