Synthesis of Biologically Active 3-Benzalphthalide Derivatives

Ibrahim, Tarek M. The Pharmaceutical Society of Korea 1991 Archives of Pharmacal Research Vol.14 No.4

Synthesis of series of 3-benzalphthalidyl-amino acids and their corresponding methyl esters, dipeptides and tripeptide methyl esters 2a-7c is decribed. All 3-benzalphthalidynamino acids 2a-g were found to possess a remarkable antimicrobial properties against a number of microorganisms and fungi.

Copper Complexes of Some Amino Acid Derivatives of Substituted Coumarilic Acid

Ibrahim, Tarek M.,Shabana, Ahmed A.,Hammad. Hamdy A. The Pharmaceutical Society of Korea 1992 Archives of Pharmacal Research Vol.15 No.2

A series of copper complexes of some amino acid derivatives of 6-methoxy 3-methyl-coumarilic acid were prepared. The infrared, visible spectra and magnetic susceptibility of these compounds were reported. All copper complexes were foundt to have antimicrobial activity against gram-positive bacteria only.

A molecular dynamics study of the effect of Coulomb Buckingham Potential on equilibrium structural properties of calcium titanate perovskite

Ibrahim Almishal Saeed Sameer,Hatem Tarek M.,El-Mahallawi Iman S. 한국물리학회 2022 Current Applied Physics Vol.40 No.-

The demand on new and highly efficient energy conversion systems and many other advanced applications have suggested perovskites to be important future candidate materials. Though a lot of work has been done to understand and model their structure and properties, further investigation is still needed. Consequently, the development and enhancement of computational methods including molecular dynamics and quantum chemical calculations is one of the main issues regarding the understanding and optimization of perovskites. In this work, Coulomb Buckingham interatomic potential function is investigated to analyze the structure of Calcium Titanate CaTiO3 through the application of Molecular Dynamics via LAMMPS open source code. The results are compared with the results of other potential functions representations, namely Vashishta-Rahman (VR) and Lennard-Jones (LJ) potentials. The understanding of the effect of potential representation on structural properties would lead to deduction of mechanical and thermal properties and to building a platform for adapting the different types of oxide perovskites, or even nonorganic halide perovskites, to enhance their technological aspects. The VR interaction potential was previously proven to be the most effective for describing the phase changes of perovskites and to match the experimental observations. It was also proven in previous studies that the radial distribution function (RDF) undergoes essential changes when replacing LJ with VR. According to the findings of this study, Buckingham potential is shown to produce much closer results to VR than LJ of the radial distribution function.

Yogurt Containing the Probacteria Lactobacillus acidophilus Combined with Natural Antioxidants Mitigates Doxorubicin-Induced Cardiomyopathy in Rats

        Nashwa M. Abu-Elsaad,Ahmed G. Abd Elhameed,Amr El-Karef,Tarek M. Ibrahim 한국식품영양과학회 2015 Journal of medicinal food Vol.18 No.9

Probiotics and antioxidants have a definite improving effect in cardiovascular diseases. This study aims at mitigating doxorubicin toxicity on cardiac function through consuming a functional food. Five groups of adult male Sprague-Dawley rats were used along 22 weeks. Group I received 30 g/kg/day food enriched with yogurt, green tea extract, and carrots (80, 0.84, and 100 g/kg diet, respectively) from the first week, group II received carvedilol 30 mg/kg/day orally from week 17, group III received both carvedilol and tested food, and groups IV and V were + ve and –ve control groups, respectively. In week 17, cardiomyopathy was induced by i.p. injection of 2.5 mg/kg doxorubicin every 48 h for 2 weeks. Histopathological and electrophysiological examinations and biochemical analysis were done. Lipid peroxidation, antioxidant effect, heart failure compensatory mediators, and proinflammatory cytokines were assessed. Tested food normalized time between the start of Q wave and the end of T wave on electrocardiogram (QT interval) and heart rate compared to the doxorubicin group (P < .05). It also improved hypertrophy indicated by a significant (P < .05) decrease in heart/body weight ratio, angiotensin-II (Ang-II), and atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP) serum levels. Histopathological examination of cardiac sections from the tested food group revealed less marked vacuolization and low perivascular fibrosis percentage (0.7803 ± 0.04). A significant (P < .001) decrease in serum creatine kinase-membrane bound, lactate dehydrogenase, triglycerides, cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, and tissue malondialdehyde (MDA) levels was observed in addition to an increase in serum Na+/K+ ATP1A1 and cardiac reduced glutathione (GSH) levels. Tested food also lowered the inflammatory cytokines tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) and interleukin-6 (IL-6) serum levels significantly (P < .01). Probiotic food containing Lactobacillus acidophilus, green tea, and carrots can improve membrane integrity and cardiac contractility in doxorubicin-induced cardiomyopathy by decreasing TNF-α, IL-6, MDA, increasing GSH, and modulatingcompensatory mediators such as Ang-II and ANP.

Investigations on the influence of radial confinement in the impact response of concrete

        Yousef Al-Salloum,Saleh Alsayed,Tarek Almusallam,S.M. Ibrahim,H. Abbas 사단법인 한국계산역학회 2014 Computers and Concrete, An International Journal Vol.14 No.6

Annular and solid concrete specimens with different aspect ratios and static unconfined compressive strengths were studied for impact loading using SHPB test setup. Numerical simulations in LSDYNA were also carried out and results were validated. The stress-strain curves obtained under dynamic loading were also compared with static compressive tests. The mode of failure of concrete specimen was a typical ductile failure at high strain rates. In general, the dynamic increase factor (DIF) of thin solid specimens was higher than thick samples. In the numerical study, the variation of axial, hydrostatic and radial stresses for solid and annular samples was studied. The core phenomenon due to confinement was observed for solid samples wherein the applied loads were primarily borne by the innermost concrete zone rather than the outer peripheral zone. In the annular samples, especially with large diameter inside hole, the distribution of stresses was relatively uniform along the radial distance. Qualitatively, only a small change in the distribution of stresses for annular samples with different internal diameters studied was observed.
