c-Cbl-Mediated Neddylation Antagonizes Ubiquitination and Degradation of the TGF-β Type II Receptor

Transforming growth factor β (TGF-β) is a potent antiproliferative factor in multiple types of cells. Deregulation of TGF-β signaling is associated with the development of many cancers, including leukemia, though the molecular mechanisms are largely unclear. Here, we show that Casitas B-lineage lymphoma (c-Cbl), a known proto-oncogene encoding an ubiquitin E3 ligase, promotes TGF-β signaling by neddylating and stabilizing the type II receptor (TβRII). Knockout of c-Cbl decreases the TβRII protein level and desensitizes hematopoietic stem or progenitor cells to TGF-β stimulation, while c-Cbl overexpression stabilizes TβRII and sensitizes leukemia cells to TGF-β. c-Cbl conjugates neural precursor cell-expressed, developmentally downregulated 8 (NEDD8), a ubiquitin-like protein, to TβRII at Lys556 and Lys567. Neddylation of TβRII promotes its endocytosis to EEA1-positive early endosomes while preventing its endocytosis to caveolin-positive compartments, therefore inhibiting TβRII ubiquitination and degradation. We have also identified a neddylation-activity-defective c-Cbl mutation from leukemia patients, implying a link between aberrant TβRII neddylation and leukemia development.

<P>Differential cross sections at t = t(min) and decay asymmetries for the gamma p -> phi p reaction have been measured using linearly polarized photons in the range 1.5 to 2.9 GeV. These cross sections were used to determine the Pomeron strength factor. The cross sections and decay asymmetries are consistently described by the t-channel Pomeron and pseudoscalar exchange model in the E-gamma region above 2.37 GeV. In the lower energy region, an excess over the model prediction is observed in the energy dependence of the differential cross sections at t = t(min). This observation suggests that additional processes or interference effects between Pomeron exchange and other processes appear near the threshold region.</P>
EXTERNAL COSTS OF INLAND CONTAINER TRANSPORTATION

This paper aims to explore the external costs of inland container transportation in Taiwan, by analyzing the origin and destination of current container cargo in Taiwan, after reviewing an extensive literature survey of methods of external costs. A comparison of external costs between truck and SSS by corridor is made by using a model developed in this paper. Based on the findings that external costs of SSS is considerably lower than truck transport mode and can be an alternative of modal split for current inland container cargo transportation, we discuss the significance and managerial implications of SSS from the perspective of green logistics. In so doing, a top-down approach is employed for developing government policies, which aim to not only reduce the external costs of inland container transportation but also promote SSS in Taiwan.
Loop형 Thermal Diode의 열성능에 관한 기초 연구

본 논문은 루프형 열다이오드의 열 성능에 관하여 시험적 연구를 수행하였다. 다이오드는 두 개의 튜브로 만든 수평 부분과 이 두 수평부분을 연결하는 두 개의 PVC 튜브로 구성되어 있다. 작동유체로는 물과 공기가 사용되었으며, 특히 물의 경우 낮은 열전도도와 유동저항의 영향으로 좋은 열성능을 보여 주었다. 본 연구에서는 순방향과 역방향일 경우의 열전달율과 열전달 비를 구하였으며 여러 차례에 걸친 실험을 반복 수행하였다. 이와 같은 형태의 열다이오드는 바로 태양열의 이용에 효과적으로 응용될 수 있다. The thermal performance of a loop thermal diode is presented. This diode in composed of the horizontal segments(metal tubes) and two branches(PVC tubes) connecting the horizontal segments. For the working fluid(filling the loop), water and air are tested where water has shown remarkable performance due to its low thermal conductivity and frictional resistance. A number of tests are done to estimate the heat transfer rate and ratio of heat transfer rates of the diode under forward and reverse bias. This type of thermal could be used at hand to harness the solar energy.
