A mono-energetic peak was observed, which is interpreted as the formation of a new kind of neutral tribaryon S0(3115) with isospin T=1 and strangeness S=−1. The mass and width of the state were deduced to be 3117.0−4.4+1.5MeV/c2 and <21MeV/c2, respectively. The state mainly decays into ΣNN.</P>
Short-term Response of Vegetation to Cattle Grazing in an Abandoned Orchard in Southwestern Japan
Hayashi, K.,Ikeda, K.,Ueda, A.,Fumita, T.,Etoh, T.,Gotoh, T. Asian Australasian Association of Animal Productio 2006 Animal Bioscience Vol.19 No.4
An abandoned mandarin orange orchard in southwestern Japan was set-stocked by Japanese Black cows at two stocking rates (1.0 and 2.0 animals/ha), and vegetation dynamics and diet selection by cattle were monitored for two years, in an effort to obtain information on effective use of abandoned agricultural fields for low-cost animal production and environmental conservation. Two dominant species at the commencement of grazing, kudzu (Pueraria lobata Ohwi) and tall goldenrod (Solidago altissima L.), showed different responses to grazing during the two years; the composition of kudzu decreased, contrasting with that of tall goldenrod which increased at both stocking rates. This was caused by high preference for kudzu and avoidance or low preference for tall goldenrod by cattle. Retrogression of vegetation due to cattle disturbances occurred at both stocking rates, with the high stocking rate leading to a lower degree of succession than the low stocking rate. It was shown that cattle grazing, particularly at a high stocking rate, was effective in the management of vegetation of an abandoned orchard.
Constraints on GUT 7-brane topology in F-theory
Hayashi, H.,Kawano, T.,Watari, T. North-Holland Pub. Co 2012 Physics letters: B Vol.708 No.1
We study the relation between phenomenological requirements and the topology of the surfaces that GUT 7-branes wrap in F-theory compactifications. In addition to the exotic matter free condition in the hypercharge flux scenario of SU(5)GUT breaking, we analyze a new condition that comes from a discrete symmetry aligning the contributions to low-energy Yukawa matrices from a number of codimension-three singularity points. We see that the exotic matter free condition excludes Hirzebruch surfaces (except F0) as the GUT surface, correcting an existing proof in the literature. We further find that the discrete symmetry for the alignment of the Yukawa matrices excludes del Pezzo surfaces and a rational elliptic surface as the GUT surface. Therefore, some GUT 7-brane surfaces are good for some phenomenological requirements, but sometimes not for others, and this aspect should be kept in mind in geometry search in F-theory compactifications.
On endomorphisms of the Cuntz algebra which preserve the canonical UHF-subalgebra, II
Hayashi, T.,Hong, J.H.,Szymanski, W. Academic Press 2017 Journal of functional analysis Vol.272 No.2
<P>It was shown recently by Conti, Rordam and Szymanski that there exist endomorphisms lambda(u) of the Cuntz algebra O-n such that lambda(u) (F-n) subset of F-n but u is not an element of F-n and a question was raised if for such a u there must always exist a unitary v is an element of F-n with lambda(u) | F-n = lambda(v) | F-n. In the present paper, we answer this question to the negative. To this end, we analyze the structure of such endomorphisms lambda(u) for which the relative commutant lambda(u) (F-n)' boolean AND F-n is finite dimensional. (C) 2016 Elsevier Inc. The Current Trends in SBS and phase conjugation
Omatsu, T.,Kong, H.J.,Park, S.,Cha, S.,Yoshida, H.,Tsubakimoto, K.,Fujita, H.,Miyanaga, N.,Nakatsuka, M.,Wang, Y.,Lu, Z.,Zheng, Z.,Zhang, Y.,Kalal, M.,Slezak, O.,Ashihara, M.,Yoshino, T.,Hayashi, K.,T Cambridge University Press 2012 Laser and particle beams Vol.30 No.1
<B>Abstract</B><P>The current trends in stimulated Brillouin scattering and optical phase conjugation are overviewed. This report is formed by the selected papers presented in the “Fifth International Workshop on stimulated Brillouin scattering and phase conjugation 2010” in Japan. The nonlinear properties of phase conjugation based on stimulated Brillouin scattering and photo-refraction can compensate phase distortions in the high power laser systems, and they will also open up potentially novel laser technologies, e.g., phase stabilization, beam combination, pulse compression, ultrafast pulse shaping, and arbitrary waveform generation.</P>
