<P>From May to July 2015, there was a nation-wide outbreak of Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS) in Korea. MERS is caused by MERS-CoV, an enveloped, positive-sense, single-stranded RNA virus belonging to the family Coronaviridae. Despite expert opinions that the danger of MERS might be exaggerated, there was an overreaction by the public according to the Korean mass media, which led to a noticeable reduction in social and economic activities during the outbreak. To explain this phenomenon, we presumed that machine learning-based analysis of media outlets would be helpful and collected a number of Korean mass media articles and short-text comments produced during the 10-week outbreak. To process and analyze the collected data (over 86 million words in total) effectively, we created a methodology composed of machine-learning and information-theoretic approaches. Our proposal included techniques for extracting emotions from emoticons and Internet slang, which allowed us to significantly (approximately 73%) increase the number of emotion-bearing texts needed for robust sentiment analysis of social media. As a result, we discovered a plausible explanation for the public overreaction to MERS in terms of the interplay between the disease, mass media, and public emotions. (C) 2017 Elsevier Inc. 염분제거용 약액을 이용한 콘크리트 구조물의 보수공법에 관한 연구

철근콘크리트는 철근과 콘크리트가 재료적으로 일체화되어 경제적이고, 반영구적 이여서 사회 간접자본으로 건설되는 교량 및 대형구조물에 사용되어 지지만 해양노출환경 및 동절 기에 사용되는 제설제 등으로 콘크리트 중의 염화물 이온이 철근의 부동태 피막을 파괴하 여 철근이 부식함으로써 여러 가지 화학적 및 물리적 작용을 복합적으로 받을 경우에 단기 간에 내구성능이 저하되고 구조물의 수명이 단축된다. 본 연구에서는 상기와 같은 철근콘 크리트의 염해에 의한 손상부에서 염소이온을 효과적으로 제거하여 초기 구조물의 내구성 을 회복할 수 있는 보수 공법에 대한 연구를 수행하였다. Reinforced concrete is used for bridges and large structures that are constructed with social overhead capital because they are economically and semi-permanently integrated with reinforcing bar and concrete. However, when the chloride ion in the concrete destroys the passive film of the reinforcing bar by the marine exposure environment and the snow remover used in the winter season, and the reinforcing bar is corroded by various chemical and physical actions, the durability is deteriorated in a short period, and the life span is shortened. In this study, a repair method to recover the durability of the initial structure by effectively removing chloride ion from the damage caused by salting of the above mentioned reinforced concrete was conducted.

Intermediate filaments, including nestin and glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP), are important for the brain to accommodate neural activities and changes during development. The present study examined the temporal changes of nestin and GFAP protein levels in the postnatal development of the mouse hippocampus. Mouse hippocampi were sampled on postnatal day (PND) 1, 3, 6, 18, and 48. Western blot analysis showed that nestin expression was high at PND 1 and markedly decreased until PND 18. Conversely, GFAP expression was acutely increased in the early phase of postnatal development. Nestin immunoreactivity was localized mainly in the processes of ramified cells at PND 1, but expression subsequently decreased. In contrast, GFAP was evident mainly in the marginal cells of the hippocampus at PND 1, but immunoreactivity revealed satellite, radial, or ramified shapes of the cells from PND 6-48. This study demonstrates that the opposing pattern of nestin and GFAP expressions in mouse hippocampus during postnatal development occur in the early development stage (PND 1-18), suggesting that the opposing change of nestin and GFAP in early postnatal development is important for neural differentiation and positioning in the mouse hippocampus.
소형승합차량 및 RV차량의 유해대기오염물질(HAPs) 배출특성에 관한 연구

Hazardous air pollutants(HAPs) are emitted from motor vehicles are known or suspected to have serious health effect. However, we don't have any regulation or standard related to HAPs from mobile source so far. Now HAPs control strategies are highly needed and must to be conducted research and analysis on mobile source. This study focus on the investigation of the characteristics of exhaust emission and estimate the HAPs emission factors in light duty diesel and LPG vehicle. Sampling and analytical methods to be settled in 2004 were used. EPA TO-14 method(Toxic Organic), TO-11A method, CARB SOP 028 method(California Air Resource Board Standard Operating Procedure) and Korean air pollution measurement methods were chosen for VOCs, Aldehydes, PAHs and metals respectively. These results will provide some information on the characteristics of HAPs from mobile source and be used for proper decision making of HAPs management like establishment of environmental quality standards in Korea.
