      • A Prediction Model for Benign Laryngeal Disease Using Supervised Learning Techniques

        Sunghyoun Cho,Seonghun Yu,Haewon Byeon 보안공학연구지원센터 2016 International Journal of Bio-Science and Bio-Techn Vol.8 No.4

This study developed prediction model for benign laryngeal disease based on machine learning which reflects the characteristics of Korean adults. This study analyzed 8,713 adults (3,801 males and 4,912 females) over the age of 19 who completed laryngoscopic assessment of 2010-2012 Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHNES). RBF artificial neural network algorithm was used for analysis. The explanatory variables were age, gender, educational level, occupation, income, smoking, binge drinking, and self-reported voice problem. As the result of construction of prediction model for benign laryngeal disease, self-reported voice problem, educational level, income and smoking were significant risk factors of benign laryngeal disease (p<0.05).Construction of prevention model is required to be constructed based on this model to minimize the risks of benign laryngeal disease in Koreans.

      • Muscle Activity of Lower Extremities for Normal Adults According to the Type of Chair and Posture During Sit-to-stand Movement

        Sunghyoun Cho,Haewon Byeon 보안공학연구지원센터 2015 International Journal of Bio-Science and Bio-Techn Vol.7 No.3

The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of sit to stand movement on the muscle activity of lower extremities muscles by the different type of chair and posture. Total 52 healthy adult between 19 and 26 were selected as subject for the study. The muscle activities of vastus lateralis, rectus femoris, vastus medialis, tibialis anterior and gastrocnemius by the different types of chair during sit to stand movement were measured by using surface electromyography WEMG. Sit to stand movement was performed by the different types of chair. For both fixed and wheeled chairs, rectus femoris and vastus lateralis showed a statistically significant difference (p<.05) when standing, while vastus medialis, rectus femoris, and vastus lateralis showed a statistically significant difference when sitting (p<.05). Comparison of standing and sitting positions revealed that all muscle types except gastrocnemius showed a statistically significant difference. This study suggests that it can be useful for providing fundamental data regarding the muscle activation of lower limbs according to chair type.

승마운동의 유형에 따른 노인의 혈중 지질의 차이에 관한 연구

        조성현 ( Cho Sunghyoun ),유성훈 ( Yu Seonghun ) 대한통합의학회 2018 대한통합의학회지 Vol.6 No.3

Purpose : We investigated the effects of horseback riding and horseback riding machine exercise on the serum lipid profile in elderly individuals. Methods : Our study included 30 healthy elderly individuals who were randomly assigned to 2 groups: the horseback riding and the horseback riding machine exercise group, with each group comprising 15 individuals. The riding exercise program was performed 25 times a week over 12 weeks. The repeated measures analysis of variance was used to determine changes in serum lipid profiles before and after exercise 6 and 12 weeks after exercise. Results : An intergroup comparison of blood tests showed that triglyceride, total cholesterol and low-density lipoprotein-C levels were decreased in both groups after 12 weeks of the riding exercise program. However, both groups showed an increase in high-density lipoprotein-C levels, although this difference was not statistically significant. Conclusion : Horseback riding and horseback riding machine exercise showed a positive effect on the serum lipid profile in elderly individuals.

      • Could Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation Really Lead to Changes in Voice of Swallowing Disorder Caused by a Stroke?

        Haewon Byeon,Sunghyoun Cho 보안공학연구지원센터 2015 International Journal of Bio-Science and Bio-Techn Vol.7 No.6

This study investigated the effect of Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation (NMES) on the loudness, pitch and quality of the voice of the males diagnosed with dysphagia by stroke. NMES was conducted on experimental group of 15 patients for 2 months repeatedly while compensatory strategies for dysphagia were performed on control group of 15 patients. Loudness, pitch (F₀) and quality (Jitter, Shimmer, NNE; Normalized Noise Energy) of the voice was measured by using acoustic-phonetic analysis. For statistical test, difference in voice change after the treatments was compared by using analysis of covariance (ANCOVA). As the result of analysis, NMES and compensatory strategies had significant difference in intensity, jitter and shimmer (p<.05) while they did not in pitch and NNE. After the intervention of NMES, voice loudness of the subjects was enhanced and periodicity of vocal cord vibration (Jitter, Shimmer) was stabilized. The results of this study imply that NMES may have effect on enhancement of voice loudness and stabilization of periodicity of vocal cord vibration.

The Effects of Weight-Bearing Exercise on Upper Extremity Activities Performance in the Female Stroke Patients

Lee, SungEun,Cho, SungHyoun,Kim, Kyoung The Korea Contents Association 2013 International Journal of Contents Vol.9 No.1

The purpose in the present study was to examine the effects of weight-bearing exercises on stroke patients' ability to perform upper extremity activities. Experiments were conducted with 24 female stroke patients who were randomly assigned to either a control group (CG) that performed general exercise or an experimental group that performed weight-bearing exercise (WBG). The experiments were conducted for 30 minutes per time, three times per week for six weeks. The upper extremity functions, grasping power, and the ability to manipulate the fingers were measured for both groups before the experiments and again six weeks after the beginning of the experiments. Although the scores for upper extremity functions relating to raising the arms that correspond to proximal upper extremity functions increased in both groups, the WBG showed more significant improvement. The WBG showed significant changes in grasping power compared to the CG. Based on these results, weight-bearing exercise can be effective in improving the ability to perform upper extremity movements and grasping power and thus can be used in stroke rehabilitation.

Comparison of Multilevel Growth Models for Respiratory Function in Patients with Tracheostomy and Stroke using Cervical Range of Motion Training

Kim SoHyun,Cho SungHyoun 물리치료재활과학회 2021 Physical therapy rehabilitation science Vol.10 No.3

Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of cervical range of motion training on the change in respiratory function growth rate at the group and individual level in stroke patients and stroke patients with tracheostomy tube. Design: A Multilevel Growth ModelMethods: 8 general stroke patients and 6 stroke patients who had a tracheostomy tube inserted were subjected to cervical range of motion training 3 times a week for 4 weeks. Force vital capacity (FVC), Forced expiratory volume in the first second (FEV1), Forced expiration ratio (FEV1/FVC) and Manual assist peak cough flow (MPCF) were measured. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and multilevel analysis with HLM 8.0. Results: A significant difference was found in the respiratory function analysis growth rate of the entire group (p<0.05), and two groups were added to the research model. The linear growth rate of respiratory function in patients with general stroke increased with the exception of FEV1/FVC (p<0.05). Stroke patients with tracheostomy tube showed a decreasing pattern except for FVC. In particular, MPCF showed a significantly decreased result (p<0.05). Conclusions: This study found that the maintenance of improved respiratory function in stroke patients with tracheostomy tube decreased over time. However, cervical range of motion training is still a useful method for respiratory function in general stroke patients and stroke patients with tracheostomy tube.

      • Comparison of Work-Related Musculoskeletal Disorders between Sedentary Work and Standing Work in Korea

Jongwon Lee,Sunghyoun Cho 보안공학연구지원센터 2015 International Journal of u- and e- Service, Scienc Vol.8 No.10

Work-related musculoskeletal disorders are known as chronic health hazards in the musculoskeletal system, resulting from minute injuries mainly in the joint regions and caused by repetitive manual work, inconvenient and awkward working postures, high labor intensity, excessive force, insufficient rest, cold working environments, or vibrations. The purpose of the present study is to judge whether low back pain and other musculoskeletal symptoms appear more significantly in sedentary work or standing work. The present study was conducted with 109 production workers of an electronic product manufacturing business that implement assembling processes along the flow of conveyor belts with typical sedentary work for eight working hours per day. In addition, it also included 116 production workers of a car component manufacturing business located in Gyeonggi-do that implement assembling processes in cell lines with typical standing work for eight working hours per day. More sedentary workers were shown to be pain complainants (21.1%) and management targets (54.1%) that felt pain in at least one region. Many complained of pain in the shoulder (15.6%) and the percentage of management targets among them was shown to be higher than standing workers were. As almost 70% of standing workers experiencing many physical burdens were shown to be healthy, except for those who were shown to be pain complainants, standing work is assumed to have healthy effects. As well, given that only 24.8% of sedentary workers were shown to be normal, sedentary workers should be managed through appropriate exercise therapy or health management.

      • Association between Drinking Behavior and Activities of Daily Living in Community-dwelling Older Adults

        Haewon Byeon,SungHyoun Cho 보안공학연구지원센터 2015 International Journal of Bio-Science and Bio-Techn Vol.7 No.4

As the elderly are more vulnerable to drinking than young adults, elucidation of the relationship between drinking habits of old age and ADL is an important issue from the perspective of public health science. This study explores the relationship between drinking habits of the elderly and impaired Activities of Daily Living (ADL) and provides basic materials to prevent impaired ADL in the old age. This study analyzed a total of 4,134 elderly people over the age of 65 who participated in 2011 Korean Longitudinal Survey of Aging. Drinking habits were classified into 'no drinking (no drinking experience in lifetime)', 'past drinking (have drinking experience in the past but presently do not drink)' and 'currently drinking'. ADL were classified into ‘normal group’ and ‘Impaired ADL group’. To compare the relationship between alcohol drinking and impaired ALD, the odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI) were presented using hierarchical logistic regression. As the result of multivariate analysis (adjusted model), even after all confounding variables were adjusted, drinking had significant relationship with ADL impairment. Past drinkers has 6 times more risk of ADL impairment (OR=5.86, 95% CI: 3.07-11.19) than nondrinkers and current drinkers 4 times more risk (OR=3.94, 95% CI: 2.08-7.48) (p<0.05). As drinking in old age is associated with impaired ADL, moderation is required on drinkers for healthy aging.
