PURPOSE: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of single-session OK-432 sclerotherapy for the treatment of renal cysts. MATERIALS AND METHODS: From October 2005 to November 2006, 48 patients (61 simple renal cysts) were included in the study. Indications were determined as flank discomfort (n = 37) or patient reassurance due to increasing size (n = 11). The simple renal cysts were aspirated under ultrasonography (US), at which point OK-432 was injected into the cyst. Follow-up was performed with US or computed tomography scan every 3 months until 1 year. Complete regression of the renal cyst or more than 70% reduction in size with no symptoms indicated a successful treatment. RESULTS: Among 61 renal cysts of 48 patients, the overall success rate was 98.4%. Complete regression occurred in 46 cysts (75.4%), and more than 90% reduction in size occurred in 6 cysts (9.8%). A size reduction of 80% to 90% and 70% to 80% occurred in five (8.2%) and three cysts (4.9%), respectively. A size reduction less than 70% occurred in only one cyst (1.6%). The success of cyst regression was correlated with cyst volume. Clinical symptoms resolved in 100% of patients with symptomatic cysts, and there was no enlargement of the aspirated cysts at the 1-year follow-up. After the procedure, there were only some minor complications, such as mild fever, flank pain, and leukocytosis, which subsided with the conservative treatment. CONCLUSIONS: Percutaneous OK-432 sclerotherapy is simple, safe, and effective, and it can be an alternative first-line therapy for simple renal cysts.

Developing a Monitoring System for Toothbrushing
Ok Su Kim,Sang Woo Kim,Ji Sun Kim,Hong Ran Choi,Ok Joon Kim 대한구강악안면병리학회 2015 대한구강악안면병리학회지 Vol.39 No.2
Proper oral hygiene is required to maintain oral health and prevent oral disease. Toothbrushing is central to proper oral hygiene. Mechanical tooth cleaning is the mainstay of plaque control. A variety of toothbrushing techniques have been developed and evaluated for their efficacy. However, these evaluations are subjective. To adequately evaluate toothbrushing objectively, a novel toothbrushing monitoring system was developed. The system involves user-monitored brushing patterns including toothbrush motions using a 3-axis gyroscope, 3-axis accelerometer, 3-axis magnetic sensor, one load-cell and Bluetooth devices. To confirm the efficacy of this toothbrushing monitoring system, eight periodontist performed tooth brushing in a dental model, and their brushing motion was monitored and recorded, and evaluated by statistical means. The proposed monitoring system can be used to aid dental care personnel in toothbrushing instruction.

This study was conducted according to the method presented in the Republic of Korea Pharmacopoeia 11th Revision, aseptic test method to evaluate the suitability of sterilization for a sterile needle (4 Pin Multi-needle). In this study, four tests were conducted: sterility test, cytotoxicity test, acute toxicity test, skin sensitization test. First, in the aseptic test, the microorganism was not proliferated in the aseptic test of the medium. As a result of the performance test of the medium, it was confirmed that the microorganism developed within 3 days and the fungus was evident within 5 days. Based on this, it was confirmed that the medium was suitable, and as a result of the aseptic test, the development of microorganisms was not observed during the total culture period. Based on these results, tests were conducted which were confirmed to be suitable for aseptic testing because the development of bacteria on the provided samples was not recognized. For cytotoxicity tests ISO10993-5; 2009 (Biological Evaluation of Medical Devices, Part 5: Test for in vitro Cytotoxicity). As a result, the MEM eluate of the test substance caused very slight cytotoxicity to the fibroblasts of the mouse and was judged to be Grade 1 (Slightly cytotoxic) according to the judgment standard of ISO 10993-5. On the other hand, solvent control, negative control and positive control showed the expected results on the test. Acute Toxicity Test Results: It was judged that there was no systemic toxicity change when ICR mice were treated with 50 mL/kg B.W. of the eluate of sterile injectable needle for 72 hours. Skin sensitization test result: The Hartley guinea pig was evaluated as a substance which is evaluated as a substance which does not induce any skin reaction when skin sensitization is applied to the dissected material of the sterile injectable needle and is weak in skin sensitivity. Based on the above tests, we will study the stability and efficacy of more reliable medical devices based on the verification and performance of medical devices.

Macroscopic alignment of chromonic liquid crystals using patterned substrates
Kim, Jeong Yeon,Nayani, Karthik,Jeong, Hyeon Su,Jeon, Hwan-Jin,Yoo, Hae-Wook,Lee, Eun Hyung,Park, Jung Ok,Srinivasarao, Mohan,Jung, Hee-Tae The Royal Society of Chemistry 2016 Physical chemistry chemical physics Vol.18 No.15

We demonstrate an efficient technique to align lyotropic chromonic liquid crystals (LCLCs) using secondary sputtering lithography (SSL). Monodomains of LCLCs prepared using SSL maintained their stable alignment for days. A generalization of Berreman's theory was employed to determine the anchoring strength of LCLCs on tessellated surface patterns. The anchoring energy initially increases with the amplitude (A) of the grooves and excellent alignment of LCLCs was observed when the amplitude of the grooves is equal to half its wavelength (lambda). We also note that the anchoring energy levels off above qA similar to 3 (where q = 2 pi/lambda), which suggests that increasing qA beyond a certain value does not provide any further advantage for the alignment of LCLCs. This finding provides a useful optimization criterion for the fabrication of the patterned cells to achieve stable monodomain alignment of LCLCs. Our analysis also explains why good alignment of LCLCs has been a difficult task.

The cost of conventional cultivation of ginseng (Panax ginseng C.A. Meyer) is very expensive, because shadow condition should be maintained during cultivation periods owing to inherently weak plant for high-temperature. Therefore, application of plant biotechnology may be possible to overcome these difficulties caused by conventional breeding of ginseng. Transgenic plants were produced via Agrobacterium tumefaciens Gv3101, both carrying the binary plasmid pBI121 mLPISO with nptII and Iso (isoprene synthase) gene. Integration of the transgenes into the P. ginseng nuclear genome was confirmed by PCR analysis using nptII primers and Iso primers. RT-PCR result also demonstrated the foreign isoprene synthase gene in three transgenic plant lines (T1, T3, and T5) which was expressed at the transcriptional level. When whole plants of transgenic ginseng were exposed to high temperature at $46^{\circ}C$ for 1 h, a non-transformed plant was wilted from heat shock, whereas a transgenic plant appeared to remain healthy. We suggest that the introduction of exogenous isoprene synthase is considered as alternative methods far generating thermotolerance ginseng.
AMPK, a metabolic sensor, is involved in isoeugenol-induced glucose uptake in muscle cells

Isoeugenol exerts various beneficial effects on human health. However, the mechanisms underlying these effects are poorly understood. In this study, we observed that isoeugenol activated AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) and increased glucose uptake in rat L6 myotubes. Isoeugenol-induced increase in intracellular calcium concentration and glucose uptake was inhibited by STO-609, an inhibitor of calcium/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase kinase (CaMKK). Isoeugenol also increased the phosphorylation of protein kinase C-α (PKCα). Chelation of calcium with BAPTA-AM blocked isoeugenol-induced AMPK phosphorylation and glucose uptake. Isoeugenol stimulated p38MAPK phosphorylation that was inhibited after pretreatment with compound C, an AMPK inhibitor. Isoeugenol also increased glucose transporter type 4 (GLUT4) expression and its translocation to the plasma membrane. GLUT4 translocation was not observed after the inhibition of AMPK and CaMKK. In addition, isoeugenol activated the Akt substrate 160 (AS160) pathway, which is downstream of the p38MAPK pathway. Knockdown of the gene encoding AS160 inhibited isoeugenol-induced glucose uptake. Together, these results indicate that isoeugenol exerts beneficial health effects by activating the AMPK/p38MAPK/AS160 pathways in skeletal muscle.

DEVEL OPMENT OF ULTRA-LIGHT 2 AXES SUN SENSOR FOR SMALL SATELLITE
Su-Jeoung Kim,장영근,오화석,Sun-Ok Kim,Byoung-Young Moon 한국우주과학회 2005 Journal of Astronomy and Space Sciences Vol.22 No.1
This paper addresses developmentof the ultra-lightanalog sun sensors for small satel-lite applications. The sun sensor is suitable for attitude determination for small satel-lite because of its small, light, low-cost, and low power consumption characteristics. The sun sensor is designed, manufactured and characteristic-tested with the target re-quirementsof. ..Æ FOV (Field of View) and pointingaccuracyof. .Æ . Since the sunsensor has nonlinearcharacteristics betweenoutputmeasurementvoltage and incidentangle of sunlight, a higher order calibration equation is required for error correction. The error was calculated by using a polynomial calibration equation that was com-puted by the least square method obtained from the measured voltages vs. anglescharacteristics. Finally, the accuracies of 1-axis and 2-axes sun sensors, which consistof 2 detectors, are compared.
