        Polarographic behavior of Cadmium-Ethylacetoacetate Chelate in the methyl alcohol and 0.3M NaClO_4 supporting electrolyte was studied in detail. The electrode reaction was found to be a reversible polarographic wave corresponding to two electron reduction and diffusion controlled, and reduction half wave potential was -0.59V(vs. SCE) in this case, assuming that metal complex Cd(EAA)_2 is reduced reversibly with two electron transfer, the electrode reaction is given as follows Cd^+2(EAA)n+2e ↔Cd+nEAA

      • Salicylaldehyde-Acetonitrile 非水溶媒中에서 亞鉛의 直流 Polarograph定量法

        A method for the direct current polarographic determination of metallic zinc dissolved directly in organic solvent, salicylaldehyde, as metal-solubility in salicylaldehyde acetonitrile and 0.2M LiClO_4 supporting electrolyte, was studied. The solution of zinc was taken into a cell. After dried nitrogen gas was passed through it for 20 min. the direct current polarogram in the region of applied potential from 0.0-1.0V(vs. SCE) was recorded and all experiments was carried out at 25.0 ± 0.5℃. A reversible polarographic reduction wave was obtained and the reduction half wave potential was-0.56V(vs, SCE). Zinc was determined by refering to the calibraton curve.

      • 선인장 양심실 보조장치의 설계 및 임상적용을 위한 평가

        현재 개발되고 있는 맥동형 이식형 인공심장은 완전이식형 인공심장과 좌심실보조장치 뿐이다. 좌심실보조장치를 장착한 환자의 10~15%가 우심실의 보조를 필요로하고 완전이식형 인공심장의 장착을 위해서는 자연심장을 제거해야하는 상황에서 이식형 양심실보조장치에 대한 필요성이 대두되고 있다. 본 연구진은 완전이식형 인공심장으로 개발된 한국형 인공심장을 개선하여 양심 실 보조장치를 개발하였다. 양심실보조장치는 이동형 작동기식 미케니즘을 이용하고 있으며 에너지 변환장치와 감속기로 구성된 작동기와 혈액주머니, 그리고 내장형 제어기로 구성되어 있다. 선인장 펌프로 명명된 KAH350은 캐뉼라의 연결을 위한 커넥터를 포함하여 길이 177mm, 폭 164mm, 높이 67 이고 무게 780g이며 최대 심박출량은 5L/min 이다. 양심실보조장치로 개발된 선인장펌프는 좌심실보조장치로도 응용이 가능하다. 이식적합성과 생체적합성을 평가하기 위하여 좌심실보조장치로 5회, 양싱실보조장치로 6회의 동물실험을 수행하였다. 각각 최장 28일간 생존하였으며 11회의 동물실험중 장치의 결함에 의한 것이 3회 있었는데 이들은 모두 전자장치의 결함과 방수처리문제였다. 현재 이식적합성과 일박출량을 향상시킨 KAH400모델이 개발중이다. The types of pulsatile implantable artificial hearts that are on the way of development and have been developed are totally implantable artificial heart and implantable left ventricular assist device (LVAD). Approximately 10% to 15% of all patients Implanted with wearable VADs have required right heart support with another device. And it is reluctant to patient who should remove his or her own heart to be implanted with total artificial heart. These situations drive the development of implantable bi-ventricular assist device (BVAD). The Korean BVAD was develophed by modifying the moving actuator type Korean artificial heart. This electro-mechanical BVAD comprises actuator including energy converter and reduction gear train, blood sacs, and internal motor and energy controllers. The KAH350 which is named as 'Cactus Pump' is 177mm in length, 164mm in width, and 67mm in thickness including connectors and nuts. The weight and maximum cardiac output of Cactus Pump is 780g and 5L/min, respectively. The Cactus Pump that was developed as BVAD could be used as LVAD by attaching compliance caps on the 2 ports of one ventricle. The animal experiments were undergone 5 times for LVAD, and 6 times for BVAD. The best records were 28 days survival in both applications. There were 3 times of device failure and they were all associated with electrical connection and hermetic sealing. The KAH400 that has improved anatomical fitting characterisitcs and stroke volume is on development.

        개발방법론이 개발직무의 동기유발성에 미치는 영향에 대한 분석

        The Agile methodology is a new trend in software development. Nowadays enterprises have been adopting the agile methodology in an effort to deal effectively with rapidly changing user requirements. In most cases, much improvement was accomplished in the software development. Some studies have mentioned that the motivation of software developers is a contributing factor on the improvement. However, it is not known yet what aspects of the agile methodology get them to be motivated. The aims of this study are the comparison between the traditional methodologies and agile methodology and look into potential motivation of software developer and their jobcharacteristics. For the empirical analyzing, research data were collected by 77 developers of 4 domestic IT companies. The analysis shows that there is significant differences on developer’s potential motivation according to what kind of methodology is used. Agile developers to be more motivated than others methodologies developers. It also shows in detail that what kinds of job characteristics of developer are different among them depending on methodologies.

        Lithospermi Radix has been used in traditional medicine for antimicrobial, antiinflammatory, immunostimulating, antitumor and wound-healing activities. For the quality control of this drug, acetylshikonin was isolated from the hexane extract of Lithospermum erythrorhizon(Boraginaceae) and identified by the spectroscopic evidences. A quantitative analysis of acetylshikonin using HPLC method showed that the average contents were 0.084±0.026% in 31 samples collected throughout the various regions of Korea.

        Synthetic Coprisin Analog Peptide, D-CopA3 has Antimicrobial Activity and Pro-Apoptotic Effects in Human Leukemia Cells

        Recently, we reported that the synthetic Coprisin analog peptide 9-mer dimer CopA3 (consisted of all-L amino acid sequence) was designed based on a defensin-like peptide, Coprisin isolated from Copris tripartitus. The 9-mer dimer CopA3 (L-CopA3) had antibacterial activity and induced apoptosis in human leukemia cells via a caspase-independent pathway. In this study, all of amino acid sequences of LCopA3 were modified to all D-form amino acids (DCopA3) to develop a more effective antimicrobial peptide. We investigated whether D-CopA3 had antimicrobial activities against pathogenic microorganisms and proapoptotic effects in human leukemia cells (U937, Jurkat, and AML-2). The synthetic peptide D-CopA3 had antimicrobial activities against various pathogenic bacteria and yeast fungus with MIC values in the 4~64 ?M range. Moreover, D-CopA3 caused cell growth inhibition, and increased the chromosomal DNA fragmentation and the expression of inflammatory cytokines, TNF-α and IL1-β, transcripts in human leukemia cells. The all-D amino acid peptide DCopA3 proved as effective as the L-CopA3 reported previously. These results provide the basis for developing D-CopA3 as a new antibiotic peptide.

      • Distribution of Nutrients in Dae-Cheong Reservoir Sediment

        This paper was performed to estimate interrelations between humus level of sediments and nutrient release from sediments in Dae-cheong reservoir. For investigations, sediments were sampled in June and October, in 1997 at fish farms, embayment, and the main stream of Dae-cheong reservoir. Items for investigation are as follows; water content, weight loss on ignition(IG), porosities of sediments, contents of element such as hydrogen, nitrogen, carbon, and nutrient release rates. Water contents and porosities were measured to conjecture the physical trait and grain size trait. Weight loss on ignition was measured to determine the contents of organic substance. For determination of the humus level of sediments, carbon and nitrogen contents were measured by elemental analyzer. As a result of elemental analysis, C/N ratio was determined in the range of $3.0\~13.1$. From the elemental analysis, humus level of Dae-cheong reservoir sediment was estimated from mesohumic state to oligotrophic state. For the determination of nutrient release rate, $PO_4-P$ and $NH_4-N$ concentrations of interstitial water and overlying water were measured. By using the concentration difference between interstitial water and overlying water and using the Fick's diffusion law, the release rates of phosphorus and nitrogen from the sediment samples were calculated. Release rates of nutrients which directly influence to the water quality were $0.05\~8.63mgP/m^2day$ and $4.99\~36.56mgP/m^2day$. It was found that release rate was measured higher in the 1st sampling period than in the 2nd sampling period. For the determination of phosphorus content in sediment, TPs were measured in 807\~1542{\mu}g/g$ in the 1st samling period and $677\~5238{\mu}g/g$ in the End samling period. Phosphorus release rate and phosphorus content were not interrelated each other.

        목재 접합부의 강도특성 및 자기 내력 평가 (1) : 소나무재의 Bolt 및 Drift pin 접합부 내력 성능 평가 The strength properties of mechanical joints of Pinus densiflora with drift pin and bolt

        This study was carried out to investigate the strength and stiffness of drift pinned and bolted joints with steel-plates by the tension-type lateral strength tests. Specimens were solid wood of Pinus densiflora. Bolt and drift pin were jointed with inserted steel plates. Tests were conducted with combinations of two loading directions (parallel to the grain : 0 degree, perpendicular to the grain : 90 degree) and three diameters of fasteners (d = 6 mm, 10 mm, 12 mm). The results obtained were as follow: 1. In the test of the parallel to the grain, maximum loads were increased with increasing of the diameter of bolt and drift pin in the same end distance. In the test of perpendicular to the grain with diameter 10 mm and 12 mm, specimens mostly were failed with horizontal splits in woods reaching the yield load of drift pinned and bolted joints. 2 The ratio of maximum load to the yield load determined by the so-called $quot;5% offset method$quot;, was great in bolted joints in the parallel to the grain. This trend become more remarkable as the slenderness ratio was increased. 3. The calculated yield strength was agreed well with the experimental results of drift pinned joint(0 degree).

        난소종양 환자의 혈중 및 면역 조직학적 CEA의 연구

        This study was performed to assess the significance of plasma level and histochemical character of carcinoembryonic antigen(CEA) in early diagnosis and prognosis of ovarian tumor. Plasma level of CEA was measured using EIA method and immunohistochemical tissue staining of CEA was done using biotin-strepto avidin complex immunoperoxidase technique. The percentage of patients with positive CEA level(above 2.5 ng/ml) was 23.1%(6/26) in malignant ovarian tumor and 15.6%(12/77) in benign ovarian tumor. Positive tissue staining of CEA was 42.3%(11/26) in malignant ovarian tumor and 19.5%(15/77) in benign ovarian tumor. In histologic typing, positive tissue staining of CEA was 18.1%(2/11) in serous cystadenocarcinoma, 85.7%(6/7) in mucinous cystadenocarcinoma, 37.5%(3/8) in other malignant ovarian tumors, 7.1%(1/15) in serous cystadenoma, 7.1%(1/14) in mucinous cystadenoma and 27.1%(13/48) in other benign ovarian tumors. Among 5 cases of malignant ovarian tumors with positive CEA level, 3 cases(60%) showed positive tissue staining of CEA, whereas among 21 cases of malignant ovarian tumors with negative CEA level, 8 cases (38.1%) showed positive tissue staining of CEA. However, among 11 cases of benign ovarian tumors with positive CEA level, 4 cases(36.4%) showed positive tissue staining of CEA, whereas among 66 cases of benign ovarian tumors with negative CEA level, 11 cases(16.7%) showed positive tissue staining of CEA. In the 3 year follow-up study of 12 cases with malignant ovarian tumor, among 3 cases with positive tissue staining of CEA, 2 cases(66.7%) survived. In 9 cases with negative tissue staining of CEA, 6 cases(66.7%) survived. In conclusion, these results suggest that the measurement of tumor CEA may be of value in the differential diagnosis of malignant and benign ovarian tumor, especially in diagnosing mucinous cystadenocarcinoma. However, due to the small amount of cases available for study, it was difficult to determine the correlation between the prognosis and tissue CEA staining of ovarian tumors.$quot;

        하천 호소의 유기물 지표 평가

        This study discussed the appropriateness of organic matter indexes such as biochemical oxygen demand(BOD) and chemical oxygen demand with potassium permanganate(COD_(Mn)) in water quality environmental standard of streams and lakes and the applicability of the items to water quality environmental standard to add or substitute COD with potassium dichromate (COD_(Cr)) and total organic carbon(TOC) being used as index of organic matter. And indexes of organic matter content and organic carbon concentration were distinguished between dissolved and particulate component in water sample to estimate their effect on pollutants loading in lake and stream. The ratio of COD_(Cr)/BOD was 5.1 under BOD concentration 3㎎/L in river water quality environmental standard II, and 2.67 above it. This ratio was diminished to 2.04 when BOD concentration was more than 8㎎/L, in river quality environmental standard IV. Also the ratio of COD_(Mn)/BOD showed 2.16 under 3㎎/L(BOD), and 1.1 above it. This ratio is also diminished to 0.84 over 8㎎/L(BOD). Accordingly, we should apply this ratio depending on the concentration level to add and change organic matter index of water quality environmental standard newly. The ratio COD_(Cr)/COD_(Mn) both in lake and stream shows 2.37(r=0.986, p<0.001). But the ratios showed range of 2.34∼2.50, which is no much difference of this ratio according to COD_(Mn) concentration.
