        Gender Differences in the Effects of Physical and Emotional Abuse in Childhood on : Suicidal Ideation in Adulthood Focusing on Mediating Effects of Depression

        This study examines the effects of physical and emotional abuse in childhood on depression and suicidal ideation in adulthood mediated by depression, focusing who experienced child abuse in the group of general adults. In particular, it places special emphasis on the comparison between the effects of physical and emotional abuse, and the aspects of the gender differences. with data from KGSS 2012, T-test, correlation analysis, path analysis, and Sobel Test were conducted by SPSS 18. It is found that depression was the most effective factor leading to suicidal ideation in both men and women. Childhood abuse was completely mediated by depression, affecting suicidal ideation. However, gender differences occurred in the specific causation process, as follows: First, The influence of household income on depression or suicidal ideation was detected in the male group only. The direct or indirect effect of total household income on depression or suicidal ideation may be caused by the pressure of strong patriarchal culture in the Korean society which requires men as breadwinner of family and the agent of economic activities. Second, the effect of emotional abuse was greater than that of physical abuse in the male group, while there were no effect of emotional abuse but an effect of physical abuse in the female group. It seems that men are often more resilient to physical abuse than women because of the socialization process of men facing frequently corporal punishment, domination, power etc. On the other hand, it seems that women not accustomed to the use of corporal punishment, violence, or force are less resilient to physical abuse than men. Third, the effect of emotional abuse appeared in the male group only. It can be explained that men are accustomed to emotional suppression due to training of masculinity which emphasizes power and dominance, independence, efficiency, control, and strongness and accordingly become less emotionally flexible than women. As a result, this study confirms that physical and emotional abuse in childhood affect suicidal ideation and this relationship is mediated by depression in adulthood. and it also shows that the relative effects of physical and emotional abuse and the causal processes is different by gender. This results also suggests the necessity of introducing a gender perspective in suicide studies.

        Reconstruction of Acetogenesis Pathway Using Short-Read Sequencing of Clostridium aceticum Genome.

        <P>Clostridium aceticum is an anaerobic homoacetogen, able to reduce CO2 to multi-carbon products using the reductive acetyl-CoA pathway. This unique ability to use CO2 or CO makes the microbe a potential platform for the biotech industry. However, the development of genetically engineered homoacetogen for the large-scale production of commodity chemicals is hampered by the limited amount of their genetic and metabolic information. Here we exploited next-generation sequencing to reveal C. aceticum genome. The short-read sequencing produced 44,871,196 high quality reads with an average length of 248 bases. Following sequence trimming step, 30,256,976 reads were assembled into 12,563 contigs with 168-fold coverage and 1,971 bases in length using de Bruijn graph algorithm. Since the k-mer hash length in the algorithm is an important factor for the quality of output contigs, a window of k-mers (k-51 to k-201) was tested to obtain high quality contigs. In addition to the assembly metrics, the functional annotation of the contigs was investigated to select the k-mer optimum. Metabolic pathway mapping using the functional annotation identified the majority of central metabolic pathways, such as the glycolysis and TCA cycle. Further, these analyses elucidated the enzymes consisting of Wood-Ljungdahl pathway, in which CO2 is fixed into acetyl-CoA. Thus, the metabolic reconstruction based on the draft genome assembly provides a foundation for the functional genomics required to engineer C. aceticum.</P>

        아동기 또래에 의한 신체적·심리적 폭력이 성인기 우울 및 자살생각에 미치는 영향

        이 연구는 18세 미만의 아동기 또래에 의한 폭력피해가 성인기 우울과 자살생각에 영향을 미치는지 살펴본다. 구체적으로 심리적 폭력피해와 신체적 폭력피해가 성인기 우울 및 자살생각에 미치는 영향을 분석하고, 자살생각의 가장 결정적인 원인인 우울을 통제한 후에도 학교폭력이 성인기 자살생각에 영향이 있는지 살펴본다. 연구자료는 KGSS 2012를 활용했고 SPSS 18을 통해 다중회귀분석을 사용했다. 분석결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 신체적 폭력은 물론 심리적 폭력이 성인기 우울에 중요한 영향을 미쳤다. 둘째, 우울이 통제되지 않은 모형에서 신체적 폭력피해가 성인기 자살생각에 유의한 영향이 있음을 확인했다. 이는 신체적 폭력피해의 경우 자살생각에 직접적으로 영향이 있음을 의미한다. 셋째, 우울을 통제한 모형에서 심리적 피해는 물론 신체적 폭력피해도 효과를 드러내지 않았다. 이것은 신체적 폭력피해의 경우 우울을 통제하면 자살생각으로 이어짐을 예방할 수 있음을 의미한다. 넷째, 심리적 폭력피해의 경우 신체적 폭력보다 우울과 더 강한 상관성을 가지면서 우울에 대한 효과는 적었고, 우울이 결정적 변수인 자살생각에 대해 효과를 나타내지 않았다. 이것은 심리적 폭력피해가 우울이나 자살생각에 대해 신체적 폭력피해보다 영향력이 적다기보다는 그 효과가 발현되는 기제가 좀 더 복잡한 양상을 가진다는 것을 시사한다. 다섯째, 신체적 폭력과 심리적 폭력의 효과가 상이하게 나타난 것은 신체적 폭력피해와 심리적 폭력피해에 대한 연구와 개입에서 양자가 구분될 필요가 있음을 의미한다. This study aims at reviewing whether the victimization of peer violence in childhood under the age of 18 affects depression and suicidal ideation in the adulthood. Specifically, the study analyzes how the victimization experience of psychological and physical violence affects depression and suicidal ideation in adulthood, and verifies whether school violence affects suicidal ideation in the adulthood after controlling depression which is known as the most decisive factor of suicidal ideation. For the research data, KGSS 2012 was used, and descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis were conducted by using SPSS 18. The analysis results are as follows: First, it was confirmed that both experiences of psychological and physical violence had significant influences on adulthood depression, Second, physical violence had significant influences on adulthood suicidal ideation in the model uncontrolled depression. This indicates that the victimization of physical violence has direct influences on suicidal ideation. Third, both of psychological and physical violence have never relationship with suicidal ideation after controlling depression. For physical violence, this means that controlling depression can prevent the effects of physical violence on suicidal ideation. Forth, for psychological violence, even though it had a stronger correlation with depression than physical violence, its impact on depression was lower than psychological violence, and it did not show to have any effect on suicidal ideation in the model uncontrolled depression. These results suggest that the mechanism of effects of psychological violence is more complicated than that of physical violence. Fifth, the difference between the effects of physical and psychological violence indicates that it is necessary to distinguish psychological violence with physical violence in the study and intervention of school violence.

        이슬람 근본주의자들에 맞서는 무슬림 여성주의자들의 실천 전략

        본 연구는 이슬람 근본주의자들에 의해 주도되는 종교적 근본주의화와 가부장주의의 강화에 대항하는 무슬림 여성주의자들의 실천전략을 말레이시아의 대표적인 무슬림 여성주의 집단인 SIS를 중심으로 분석하고자 하였다. 이들의 실천전략은 첫째, 경전해석이 사회문화적 상황을 고려해야 함을 주장하며, 경전재해석에 기초해 젠더개념을 수정함으로써 이슬람 신앙의 틀을 깨지 않으면서도 여성주의적 실천을 실행하는 것이다. 둘째, 종교적 자유를 추구하며, 근본주의자들과의 불필요한 충돌을 피하고 무슬림으로서의 정체성을 지키고자 노력한다. 종교적 자유추구를 위한 실천의 방식으로 히잡에 대한 유연한 태도, 종교자유의 언술구성과 실천, 제도종교와 개인종교의 분리, 종교공동체인 가족 및 친밀한 집단과의 충돌 회피, 제도종교와 거리두기 등이 있다. 셋째, 남성 울라마들에게 독점되어 온 신학지식과 경전해석의 남성중심성을 비판한다. 이들은 대안적인 경전해석의 정당성을 자신들의 깊은 믿음과 고등교육에 기초한 높은 종교적 지식에서 찾는다. 넷째, 이슬람 정의의 개념과 언어를 통해 보편적 여성인권과 성평등을 구성함으로써 민족문화적 요구에 부응하면서 성평등이라는 보편적 요구를 풀어나가고자 노력한다. 뿐만 아니라 과거 서구의 식민지배를 받았던 국가이자 다민족으로 구성된 말레이시아 사회의 현실을 반영해 다양한 주체, 주변적 주체에 대해 관심을 기울이며 차이를 내포한 공감과 공통 경험을 통해 초국적 연대를 추구한다. 이러한 말레이시아 여성 무슬림들의 실천전략은 주체적 관점에서 탈식민적 여성주의의 저항전략을 구성하고자 하는 한국 여성주의의 실천에 많은 시사점을 던져주는 것으로 생각된다. This paper examines the practice strategies of Sisters In Islam which is the most important Muslim feminist group in Malaysia. They pursue feminist practices remaining in Muslim faiths and try to reform Islamic fundamentalism. The practice strategies are as follows: First, they insist Islam’s Holy book should be understood in the context of social, cultural circumstances. They provide the revised gender concept and gender relations within Islamic framework and women’s perspective through alternative interpretation. Second, they try to obtain religious freedom avoiding conflicts with Islamic fundamentalism by flexible religious practices. The ways for religious freedom are the flexible attitudes to wearing hijab, the construction of religious freedom discourse, avoiding conflicts with religious community and keeping distance with institutional religion. Third, they expose male-centric interpretation of Quran and Sharia law. They show their legitimacy of interpreting Quran is grounded on their deep faiths and the high quality of religious knowledge supported with high education. Fourth, they not only constitute universal women’s rights and gender equality but also meet nationalist demands of cultural relativism with Islamic justice and language. They pay attention to the various and marginalized subjects and try to pursue transnational solidarity based on sympathy and common experience including difference. These practice strategies have important implications for Korean feminists who should constitute the resistant practices of postcolonial feminism from subjective perspective.

        정보 통신 프로토콜의 한 구현물이 표준에 맞는지를 조사하기 위해 적합성 시험을 수행해 왔다. 그러나, 정보통신 환경의 급격한 변화로 인해 적합성 시험에 합격한 장비 및 서비스들간에도 상호 운용시에는 제대로 동작하지 않는 현상이 종종 발생하게 되었다. 이로 인해 정보통신 서비스 및 제품 개발에 있어서 상호운용성 시험의 요구가 증대함에도 불구하고, 국내외적으로 권고하고 있는 국제적인 표준이나 시험체계 및 방법 개발이 미진한 실정이다. 따라서, 본 논문에서는 상호운용성 관련 연구 동향 및 기존의 국제 표준(안)을 분석하여 상호운용성 시험 방법에 대한 연구의 방향을 설정하고, 상호운용성 시험 방법 및 체계를 마련하여 표준안을 제안한다. 본 논문은 상호운용성의 분류, 상호운용성 시험 구조, 상호운용성 시험 절차에 관한 내용을 포함한다.

        인도네시아 이슬람 여성주의의 혼성성

        This paper examines that Fatayat women as a part of indonesian Nahdlatul Ulama have created the hybridization of feminist awareness and practices through accommodating the global feminism by cooperating with some international organizations. Fatayat women have made their own hybridization through the local bases and the organizational dynamics. It shows the local bases that interviewees had involved in fatayat through family tradition and regional network and had contacted with feminism for the first time by Fatayat NU program or Islamic University. The organizational characteristic of Fatayat was formed through Suharto’s authoritarian regime, the organizational condition of NU, that is, parents organization of Fatayat, Fatayat position within NU and intersection of global Islamic revival and the restoration of the foundation of 1926. The hybridization aspects of the awareness and practices of feminist by Fatayat women are as follow. First, Fatayat women insist that their feminist discourse and practices derive from Islamic tradition, seeking the value and language of global feminism within Islamic framework. The encounter between the global feminism and local women formed the transformative or hybrid feminist identity, that is, indonesian Islam feminist. Second, the gender concept of Fatayat women regards pregnancy, childbirth and breast feeding as biological characteristic, that is, religious obligation. The emphasizing the biological feature of breast feeding was brought on by the negotiation between western gender idea and Islamic value. Third, the recognition of biological characteristic of breast feeding carried over into the accommodation of mother’s primary responsibility for child rearing, which underscores the natural feature of domestic sphere. As a result, the lead of husband in domestic sphere was permitted by Fatayat women. Therefore, the hybridization of feminist practice in family life appeared. This paper insists that the hybrid characteristic of feminist awareness and practice in Fatayat women has been formed by the competition and negotiation between global feminism and local Islam through endogenous organization called Fatayat. It is important that the restricting influence of Islam’s holy book and walking a fine line between conservative leaders and reformative leaders played an prominent role as regards the organizational dynamics in Fatayat.
