The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of body mass index and health-related physical fitness on dinking habits in college females. 165subjects were participated in this study and their ages, college grade, academic major, height, weight, percent body fat, total body water, body mass index, waist hip ratio, back strength, sit-up, sit and reach, and physical efficiency index were measured. Their drinking habits were observed by Perceptions about Alcohol Use(Corbin, Welk, Lindsey, & Corbin, 2(04). Reliability Analysis, Factor Analysis(varimix), One-way Analysis of Variance(ANOVA), Multiple Range Test(Scheffe), Analysis of Multiple correlation, Analysis of Simple Linear Regression and Dubin Watson Test were used to examine the statistical significance using SPSS 11.0 windows. Drinking habits showed significant differences on health-related physical fitness (p<.05), but no significant differences on the body mass index. Also, drinking habits were significantly affected by lean body mass, total body water, back strength, sit-up, sit and reach, and physical efficiency index. In conclusion, this result indicated that college females comparatively consumed less alcohol, and appropriate alcohol drinking had better effects on health-related physical fitness than non-drinking or heavy drinking. Therefore, it is necessary to spread improved health-related physical fitness and the desirable alcohol drinking habits through the small amount of alcohol drinking and regular physical activity in their daily life to college females.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to evaluate the concentrations and relationships of coarse particles with a diameter of 10 μm (PM10) with endotoxins according to the time of measurement in windowless poultry houses. Methods: In this study, measurement was performed on ten windowless poultry houses with a vertically integrated system from July to November. PM10 was measured using personal environmental monitors and polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) filters with a 4 L/min-calibrated pump in selected sampling locations (two near the door and two near an exhaust fan). The endotoxin on PTFE filter was analyzed by the LAL turbidimetric method. Results: The range of geometric mean concentrations of PM10 and endotoxins for each of the 38 samples were 0.12-3.30 mg/㎥ and 11.9-3553.66 EU/㎥, respectively. PM10 and endotoxin concentrations varied by farm, increasing with the decrease in ventilation. The range of the coefficient of determination between PM10 and endotoxin was 0.0009-0.9249. As the atmospheric temperature decreased, it was confirmed that the concentrations of PM10and endotoxin increased because the volume of ventilation was decreased. Conclusions: Endotoxins were more affected by time of measurement and ventilation than PM10, which means that endotoxins could be an important indicator for intervention programs for improvement of indoor environments.

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the personal exposure to $PM_{10}$ by body parts for the development of dust monitoring wearable device for swine farmers. Methods: Tasks were classified by using motion pictures taken by action cameras attached to swine farmers. Concentrations of $PM_{10}$ were measured by attaching direct-reading instruments at the head, neck and waist of worker. Differences of $PM_{10}$ exposure between body parts were analyzed with linear regression. Results: We identified three tasks(vaccination, moving pigs, and manure treatment). $PM_{10}$ concentration during vaccination was the highest among the tasks, and the body part showing the highest concentration of $PM_{10}$ was the waist regardless of task. In all tasks, the closer distance between the body parts, the higher were the R-squared values(vaccination 0.4221, moving pigs 0.6990, and manure treatment 0.2164). Conclusions: We presumed that $PM_{10}$ concentrations were affected by the parts of the body in which they were measured. In order to develop swine farmer's wearable device for monitoring dust concentration in air, the determination of the positions of monitoring sensor to ensure accurate measurement is essential. Considering the results of this study, wearable sensor should be positioned at the waist.

The paradigm of immune homeostasis between type-1 helper T cells (Th1) and type-2 helper T cells (Th2) has been extensively examined with respect to infectious diseases, autoimmune diseases, or tumor progression. Such studies have mostly relied on the profiling of cytokines/chemokines using animal studies or cell culture-based in vitro tests. No quantitative analyses have yet been systematically performed to determine the relationship between the various immune parameters in in vivo investigations. Using peripheral blood from 55 chicken husbandry workers or grapevine orchard workers, we obtained data for various immunologic markers as follows: proportion of major immune cell subpopulations, concentrations of plasma immunoglobulin subclasses, and levels of cytokines produced from activated peripheral blood mononuclear cells. Correlational analyses were carried out to examine the association between these parameters. As the IFN-γ:IL-13 ratio was strongly associated with the production levels of IFN-γ, TNF-α, and to the IFN-γ:IL-4 ratio, the IFN-γ:IL-13 ratio could prove to be a valuable monitoring index to examine Th1 or Th2 predominance. IL-17 levels correlated well with those of IFN-γ or TNF-α. Plasma levels of IgG4, a typical IgG subclass expressed upon the occurrence of allergic diseases, strongly correlated with IgG1 levels, suggesting the implication of IgG1 in allergic hyperreactivity. The proportion of cytotoxic T cells correlated significantly with levels of IFN-γ, and the proportion of natural killer T cells correlated well with IL-13 levels. These two cell types are sources for the production of IFN-γ and IL-3 respectively; hence, results of this study might provide potential monitoring markers for cytotoxic T cells or natural killer T cell-mediated immunoreactivity. Overall, the present study provides several putative candidates for the surveillance or prognosis of the in vivo alteration of humoral or cell-mediated immunity.

Background: Occupational hazards in crop farms vary diversely based on different field operations as soil management, harvesting processes, pesticide, or fertilizer application. We aimed at evaluating the immunological status of crop farmers, as limited systematic investigations on immune alteration involved with crop farming have been reported yet. Methods: Immunological parameters including plasma immunoglobulin level, major peripheral immune cells distribution, and level of cytokine production from activated T cell were conducted. Nineteen grape orchard, 48 onion open-field, and 21 rose greenhouse farmers were participated. Results: Significantly low proportion of natural killer (NK) cell, a core cell for innate immunity, was revealed in the grape farmers (19.8±3.3%) in comparison to the onion farmers (26.4±3.1%) and the rose farmers (26.9±2.5%), whereas cytotoxic T lymphocyte proportion was lower in the grape and the onion farmers than the rose farmers. The proportion of NKT cell, an immune cell implicated with allergic response, was significantly higher in the grape (2.3±0.3%) and the onion (1.6±0.8%) farmers compared with the rose farmers (1.0±0.4%). A significantly decreased interferon-gamma:interleukin-13 ratio was observed from ex vivo stimulated peripheral blood mononuclear cells of grape farmers compared with the other two groups. The grape farmers revealed the lowest levels of plasma IgG1 and IgG4, and their plasma IgE level was not significantly different from that of the onion or the rose farmers. Conclusion: Our finding suggests the high vulnerability of workplace-mediated allergic immunity in grape orchard farmers followed by open-field onion farmers and then the rose greenhouse farmers.
