The peculiarities of laser ablation and deposition by laser-induced film transfer (LIFT) are investigated. The dependence of the physical mechanism of ablation on the laser intensity is considered. LIFT applications for decontamination of radioactive surfaces are investigated. The thermomechanical and the evaporation regions of contaminated layer ablation are defined. We show that using an inclined laser beam increases the cleaning quality.
Photoionization Scheme for Yb Laser Isotope Separation Based on a Double Resonance Optical Pumping

We investigated some photoionization routes of a Yb atom to find an optimal ionization pathway that could be adopted in our new laser isotope separation method based on a double resonance optical pumping. In the beginning, we chose three candidates that were thought to be potentially feasible schemes for the mass production of Yb isotopes. For each scheme, we measured the photoionization cross section by using a saturation technique. Considering the experimental results and the state-of-art in laser technology, we concluded that the scheme 6s6p 3P0 -> 6s8s 3P1->continuum state, using a 410.96nm excitation transition and a 1.06 µm Nd:YAG laser, was the most practical ionization route to produce Yb isotopes efficiently.
