APPRAISING INVESTMENTS IN COMMON SHARES: THE CASE OF MALAYSIA
Mike Sibley 사람과세계경영학회 1998 Global Business and Finance Review Vol.3 No.2
Thi paper is an attempt to provide some insight into the methods used by investment analysts in brokerage firms in the emerging capital market of Malaysia to appraise the value of ordinary shares before advising their clients. A postal questionnaire survey was conducted in 1996 to obtain the relevant research informationfrom invest- ment analysts representing all 58 brokerage houses in Malaysia. The empirical results indicate that although the principal technique used by Malaysian investment analysts is fundamental analysis (supplemented by technical analysis), a vast majority still practice the "gut feeling" technique and only provide brokerage services to their clients without employing analyst to conduct an analysis ofthe relevant information. Forfuture research, the ques- tion ofhow the analysts recommendations regarding a particular share are arrived at must be addressed.
POLITICS AND EXCHANGE RATES IN LATIN AMERICA
Mike Sibley People&Global Business Association 1997 Global Business and Finance Review Vol.2 No.2
This paper examines the impact of presidential elections on exchange rate behavior for a group of thirteen Latin American countries for the period from 1972 to 1995. For each of thirty-four presidential elections, currency revaluation and exchange rate variability measures are compared for periods before, during and after the period of electoral activity. The empirical results suggest that presidential elections had little or no detectable impact on exchange rates in the majority of elections examined, but a statistically significant (and often substantial) relationship was found in an important minority of the elections. The impact of an election on currency values appears to vary substantially from election to election.

A clinical study of 12 cases of subphrenic abscess, treated in Presbyterian HospitaI. Taegu, Korea, between 1960 and 1967, is presented. English speaking Medical literatures on the subject are briefly reviewed, and analysis of important clinical symptoms and signs together with means of surgical drainage is made. 1. In ten cases subphrenic abscess developed following surgery for various primary conditions. and in one case it occured after sustaining a blunt trauma to the abdomen. The predisposing cause in the remainderrof the cases was unknown. 2. The ratio between male and female was 2:1, average age 37.4 years, and the prevalent age range was 40. 3. Chief complaints of the cases studied were intermittent high fever, upper abdominal pain, nausea. and fullness in the upper abdomen. 4. In seven cases, the white cell count was above 10.000/ cu.mm, and in the remainder of the cases it was within normal range. 5. Important X-ray findings were pleural effusion, elevation of the diaphragmatic hemisphere, limitation or absence of the diaphragmatic movement on fluoroscopy, and subphrenit or intraabdominal free air with fluid level. 6. Results of microbiological study were as follows: Single infection………………….10 Mixed infection…………………2 7. Distribution of location: Right side involvemet seven, left side four and bilateral involvement one. 8. Various approaches used for surgical drainage a. Extraperitoneal route used in eight cases. b. Transperitoneal route used in four cases. The latter approach appears to be a direct one and shortest distance to reach and easier one to perform. and also it seems to be accompanied by less postoperative morbidity and higher success rate than the former.
병원성 원생동물의 병이와 약물내성 : Leishmania major의 클로로퀸 내성 Chloroquine Resistance in Leishmania major
전경희,정시련,바바라 밀러,캐롤 시블리 영남대학교 약품개발연구소 1991 영남대학교 약품개발연구소 연구업적집 Vol.1 No.-
A comparative study was peformed on two different strains of Leishmania major, chloroquine sensitive strains (Chl^(S)) and its mutant chloroquine resistant strains (Chl^(R)). Chl^(R) strains were obtained at 5×10^(-4) M chloroquine. Remarkable differences were observed at the initial chloroquine uptake in Chl^(R) and Chl^(S), i.e., the rate of uptake was very reduced in Chl^(R) (Km values were 70 nM and 125 nM, respectively). Influx and accumulation of chloroquine were also compared between wild type and mutant. An increasing tendency in both influx and accumulation of chloroquine was shown in Chl^(S), but Chl^(R) demonstrated a rapid release after a little uptake (influx) at the early stage. This result is thought to be basis of their resistance for Chl^(R) strains.
