        Preference of undergraduate students after first experience on nickel-titanium endodontic instruments

        Objectives: This study aimed to compare two nickel-titanium systems (rotary vs. reciprocating) for their acceptance by undergraduate students who experienced nickeltitanium (NiTi) instruments for the first time. Materials and Methods: Eighty-one sophomore dental students were first taught on manual root canal preparation with stainless-steel files. After that, they were instructed on the use of ProTaper Universal system (PTU, Dentsply Maillefer), then the WaveOne (WO, Dentsply Maillefer). They practiced with each system on 2 extracted molars, before using those files to shape the buccal or mesial canals of additional first molars. A questionnaire was completed after using each file system, seeking students’ perception about ‘Ease of use’, ‘Flexibility’, ‘Cutting-efficiency’, ‘Screwing-effect’, ‘Feeling-safety’, and ‘Instrumentation-time’ of the NiTi files, relative to stainless-steel instrumentation, on a 5-point Likert-type scale. They were also requested to indicate their preference between the two systems. Data was compared between groups using t-test, and with Chi-square test for correlation of each perception value with the preferred choice (p = 0.05). Results: Among the 81 students, 55 indicated their preferred file system as WO and 22 as PTU. All scores were greater than 4 (better) for both systems, compared with stainless-steel files, except for ‘Screwing-effect’ for PTU. The scores for WO in the categories of ‘Flexibility’, ‘Screwingeffect’, and ‘Feeling-safety’ were significantly higher scores than those of PTU. A significant association between the ‘Screwing-effect’ and students’ preference for WO was observed. Conclusions: Novice operators preferred nickel-titanium instruments to stainless-steel, and majority of them opted for reciprocating file instead of continuous rotating system.

        Computerized numerical assignment for the nucleotide sequence of T24 human bladder carcinoma oncogene

        A proper order number for the nucleotide sequence of an oncogene of T24 human bladder carcinoma was calculated by a computer. The total oncogene was able to be shown by a proper order number by the alphabetical arrangement of nucleotides with terminal change. Many nucleotide sequences, such as plasmids, exons and introns, and viral origin are known and then many proper order number for these sequences can be calculated. As the proper order numbers are the continuous integers starting from 1, new nucleotide sequences will be obtained from unknown order numbers. These points were discussed.

        Daam1 regulates fascin for actin assembly in mouse oocyte meiosis

        <P>As a formin protein, Daam1 (Dishevelled-associated activator of morphogenesis 1) is reported to regulate series of cell processes like endocytosis, cell morphology and migration via its effects on actin assembly in mitosis. However, whether Daam1 plays roles in female meiosis remains uncertain. In this study, we investigated the expression and functions of Daam1 during mouse oocyte meiosis. Our results indicated that Daam1 localized at the cortex of oocytes, which was similar with actin filaments. After Daam1 morpholino (MO) microinjection, the expression of Daam1 significantly decreased, which resulted in the failure of oocyte polar body extrusion. These results might be due to the defects of actin assembly, since the decreased fluorescence intensity of actin filaments in oocyte cortex and cytoplasm were observed. However, Daam1 knockdown seemed not to affect the meiotic spindle movement. In addition, we found that fascin might be the down effector of Daam1, since the protein expression of fascin decreased after Daam1 knockdown. Thus, our data suggested that Daam1 affected actin assembly during oocyte meiotic division via the regulation of fascin expression.</P>

        <P>Abstract</P><P><I>Dendrobiumnaungmungense</I>, a new species from Naungmung, Kachin State, North Myanmar, is described and illustrated. It is morphologically similar to <I>D.ciliatilabellum</I> and <I>D.vexabile</I>, but the epichile is oblong with three long-ciliate laminae and the column wing has significant denticulation. A preliminary risk-of-extinction assessment shows that the new species should be regarded as Critically Endangered (CR) according to the IUCN Red List Categories and Criteria.</P>

        Illicit drug use is associated with lower bone mineral density and bone strength

        Objectives: To evaluate the association of illicit drug use with bone mineral density (BMD) and hip geometric parameters at the narrow neck. Methods: This is a cross-sectional matched cohort study conducted in the Hong Kong Chinese population. Associations with illicit drug use were estimated using linear regression for BMD (lumbar spine and femoral neck) and hip geometrical parameters (cross-sectional area [CSA], cross-sectional moment of inertia [CSMI], section modulus [SM], average cortical thickness [ACT] and BMD at the narrow neck) after adjusting for age, body mass index (BMI), smoking status, drinking status, physical activity, and history of antipsychotic and antidepressant use. Mean difference and 95% confidence intervals (95% CI) were calculated between 108 illicit drug users and 108 controls using an adjusted linear model and cluster-robust standard errors after matching by age and sex. The false discovery rate was used to correct for multiple testing. Results: Illicit drug users had a significantly lower BMD (g/cm2 ) at the lumbar spine (mean difference: -0.062; 95% CI: -0.108 to − 0.015), and femoral neck (mean difference: -0.058; 95% CI: -0.106 to − 0.010) in the fully adjusted model. Illicit drug users also had a significantly lower CSA (mean difference: -0.238 cm2 ; 95% CI: -0.462 to − 0.013), ACT (mean difference: -0.018 cm; 95% CI: -0.030 to − 0.006) and BMD (mean difference: -0.070 g/ cm2 ; 95% CI: -0.128 to − 0.012) at the narrow neck. Conclusions: Illicit drug use is associated with lower BMD and bone strength. Future studies evaluating the risk of illicit drug use with fragility fracture are warranted.

        현대 골프대중화 속에서 교통 및 통신 수단의 발달로 여가시간의 증가는 해외로의 이동과 다양한 체험을 가능하게 하고 있다. 이러한 바탕으로 본 연구에서는 서비스산업의 형태인 골프장에 있어서 다양하고 급속히 변화하는 세계적인 서비스품질과 골프장 내부의 효율적인 인적자원의 운영을 위하여 한국의 골프장 실태분석과 중국 현지 있는 골프장과 비교하고 각 골프장의 좋은 경험을 참고하여 골프장 미래의 경영전략과 골프산업의 발전 방향을 모색하는데 목적이 있다. 본 연구에서는 고객만족에 중요한 역할을 하는 골프장 내부 종업원들을 대상으로 서비스품질경영활동의 전체적인 프로세스 차원에서 내부고객만족, 내부서비스품질지각, 경영성과 간의 관계를 규명함으로써 총체적인 서비스품질경영의 중요성을 인식하고 골프소비자들의 유지를 위한 경영활동의 기초자료를 제공하는 데 연구의 의의가 있다. 이를 종합하여 볼 때, 골프장의 서비스품질경영은 직원의 동기부여, 직무만족, 조직몰입의 내부만족에 중요한 요인으로 작용하고 있으며, 내부고객 만족은 경영성과 간의 관계에서 내재된 중요한 매개변인임을 알 수 있었으며, 내부서비스품질지각에 긍정적인 결과를 가져올 수 있으며,인적자원관리, 최고경영진리더십, 고객중심, 정보관리 서비스품질경영은 골프장 경영성과에 중요한 변수임을 알 수 있다. Nowadays with the popularity of golf and the development of transportation and communication technology, more and more people tend to go abroad to play golf in order to enjoy various service experience. Under such a circumstance, the purpose of this study golf club as service industry for diversification rapid changing universal service quality and golf club internal effective human resource management comparison of golf club in South Korea and China reference each good experience. It will contribute to the golf industry either. For this purpose, as objective of the research internal employees to the golf club an important role in customer satisfaction the significance of this paper is to cognize the importance of service quality management by confirming the relationship between internal customer satisfaction, internal service quality perception and management performance. Taken together, service quality management of golf club important factor is employees motivation, internal customer satisfaction, organizational commitment. Internal customer satisfaction is important mediator variable of management performance, for internal service quality cognize bring the positive result.         Effect of Heat Treatment on the Lipophillic Pigments of Fresh Green Tea Liquor

        Changes in lipophillic pigments concentration and its relation to color of fresh green tea liquor during heat treatment were studied. The results showed liquor greenness decreased markedly with extension of incubation time at 55℃, while the brightness and yellowness changed a little. Significant increase in ‘a’ and ‘b’ values of tea liquor was observed at 95℃. Color change of liquor at 55℃ was accompanied by a decrease in the level of chlorophylls, lutein and neoxanthin, and an increase in the pheophytins and β-carotene levels. However, all pigments except β-carotene decreased with time extension at 95℃. Significant correlation was found between pigments and color difference index. The browning of fresh green tea liquor was attributed to vicissitudes of lipophillic pigments during heat treatment, especially to the change of chlorophylls/pheophytins ratio. Result also showed addition of Zn²? at 1.6 μ㏖/ℓ could partially alleviate the decrease in greenness during heat treatment.
