Purpose: Automated guidance systems (AGSs) for mobile farm machinery have several advantages over manual operation in the crop production industry. Many researchers and companies have tried to develop such a system. However, it is not easy to evaluate the performance of an AGS because there is no established device used to evaluate it that complies with the ISO 12188 standard. The objective of this study was to develop a tracking sensor system using five laser distance measurement sensors. Methods: One sensor-for long-range distance measurement-was used to measure travel distance and velocity. The other four sensors-for mid-range distance measurement-were used to measure lateral deviation. Stationary, manual driving, and A-B line tests were conducted, and the results were compared with the real-time kinematic differential global positioning system (RTK-DGPS) signal used by the AGS. Results: For the stationary test, the average error of the tracking sensor system was 1.99 mm, and the average error of the RTK-DGPS was 15.19 mm. For the two types of driving tests, the data trends were similar. A comparison of the changes in lateral deviation showed that the data stability of the developed tracking system was better. Conclusions: Although the tracking system was not capable of measuring long travel distances under strong sunlight illumination because of the long-range sensor`s limitations, this dilemma could be overcome using a higher-performance sensor.
New Seed Detection by Shape Analysis for Construction of Vascular Structures
Shim, Hack-Joon,Lee, Hyun-Joon,Yun, Il-Dong,Lee, Sang-Uk The Korean Society of Medical and Biological Engin 2010 의공학회지 Vol.31 No.6
Although tracking methods are efficient and popular for vessel segmentation, they require a seed to initiate an instance of tracking. In this paper, a new method to detect new seeds for tracking of arterial segments from CT angiography (CTA) and to construct a vascular structure is proposed. The proposed algorithm is based on shape analysis of connected components in a volume of interest around a vessel segment which was already extracted by tracking. The eigenvalues of the covariance matrix are used as the shape features for detection. The experimental results on actual clinical data showed that the results totally revealed the arterial tree not hindered by bone or veins. In visual comparison to a method which combines registration and subtraction of both pre-contrast and post-contrast CT volumes, the proposed method produced comparable results to the reference method and were confirmed of its feasibility for clinical use of reducing the cost and burden of patients.

Background/Aims: Rebleeding is associated with mortality in patients with peptic ulcer bleeding (PUB), and risk stratification is important for the management of these patients. The purpose of our study was to examine the risk factors associated with rebleeding in patients with PUB. Methods: The Korean Peptic Ulcer Bleeding registry is a large prospectively collected database of patients with PUB who were hospitalized between 2014 and 2015 at 28 medical centers in Korea. We examined the basic characteristics and clinical outcomes of patients in this registry. Univariate and multivariate analyses were performed to identify the factors associated with rebleeding. Results: In total, 904 patients with PUB were registered, and 897 patients were analyzed. Rebleeding occurred in 7.1% of the patients (64), and the 30-day mortality was 1.0% (nine patients). According to the multivariate analysis, the risk factors for rebleeding were the presence of co-morbidities, use of multiple drugs, albumin levels, and hematemesis/hematochezia as initial presentations. Conclusions: The presence of co-morbidities, use of multiple drugs, albumin levels, and initial presentations with hematemesis/hematochezia can be indicators of rebleeding in patients with PUB. The wide use of proton pump inhibitors and prompt endoscopic interventions may explain the low incidence of rebleeding and low mortality rates in Korea. (Gut Liver 2018;12:271-277)
Chemical Modification of Cysteine Residues in Hafnia alvei Aspartase by NEM and DTNB
Shim, Joon-Bum,Kim, Jung-Sung,Yoon, Moon-Young Korean Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biol 1997 Journal of biochemistry and molecular biology Vol.30 No.2
Aspartase from Hafnia alvei was inactivated by N-ethylmaleimide (NEM) and 5,5' -Dithiobis-(2-znitrobenzoic acid) (DTNB) following pseudo-first order kinetics. Their apparent reaction orders were 0.83 and 0.50 for NEM and DTNB modifications, respectively, indicating that inactivation was due to a sulfhydryl group in the active site of aspartase and participation of the sulfhydryl group in an essential step in the catalytic reaction. When aspartase was modified by DTNB, the enzyme activity was restored by dithiothreitol treatment, indicating that cysteine residuetsl islarel possibly at or near the active site. The pH-dependence of the inactivation rate by NEM suggested that an amino acid residue having pK value of 8.3 was involved in the inactivation. When aspartase was incubated with NEM and L-aspartate together, L-aspartate markedly protected the enzyme from inactivation by NEM, but the other reagents used did not.
Studies on the Linear Free Energy Relationship in Methyl Cinnamates by $^1$H-NMR Spectrometry
Shim, Sang-Chul,Park, Joon-Won Korean Chemical Society 1981 Bulletin of the Korean Chemical Society Vol.2 No.1
Chemical shift values of ${\alpha}$-proton of trans- and cis-methyl cinnamates are well correlated with ${\sigma}({\sigma}_1,\; {{\sigma}_R}^{\alpha})$, and (F, R) (r=0.999-0.879). It is observed that (1) the degree of variation of ${\delta}H_{\alpha}$ value by varying the substituents in trans-cinnamates is similar to that of cis-cinnamates $({\rho}_{trans}=0.296,\;{\rho}_{cis}=0.2840, (2) resonance contribution is larger in the trans-cinnamates than that in the cis-cinnamates, but inductive contribution is reversed, (3) for m-substitued derivatives, resonance contribution is very small compared to that for p-substituted derivatives.
