The effect of genetically modified (GM) Brassica rapa subsp. pekinensis (Chinese cabbage) expressing Bt toxin gene (cry1AC) to the rhizosphere bacterial community was examined using the denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (DGGE) fingerprinting method. From the visual comparison of the DGGE profiles, there were no significant differences between the profiles of Bt and control rhizosphere in both Suwon and Yesan samples. From the sequence analysis of the individual bands, Sphingomonas sp. of Alphaproteobacteria and several actinobacterial members were identified as the main bacterial taxa in both Suwon and Yesan samples. In the multiple correspondence analysis, no clear separation between Bt and control rhizosphere was seen in both Suwon and Yesan datasets. The profiles of bulk soils were separated from those of rhizosphere. The DGGE fingerprinting analyses indicated that Bt crops did not significantly alter the genetic composition of rhizosphere bacterial communities.
The figures of Musica poetica in Buxtehude’s Passacaglia in D minor (BuxWV 161)
Sera Son The Pianissimo 음악예술학회 2013 음악예술연구 Vol.3 No.2
As the importance of instrumental music grew in the seventeenth century, theorists and composers developed rhetorical devices to establish a link to words. Joachim Burmeister, Christoph Bernhard, and Johann Mattheson all codified musical-rhetorical figures into a practice known as Musica Poetica. Also in the seventeenth century, theorists, such as Athanasius Kircher, developed theories on musical figures and emotional expression which became what we now commonly refer to as the Doctrine of Affections. Major composers of the day were highly influenced by Musica Poetica and the Doctrine of Affections. This document will examine these issues in the Passacaglia in D minor (BuxWV 161) of Dieterich Buxtehude. The overall goal of this undertaking is to provide greater resources for performers to interpret this composer’s organ compositions.
Fluid-structure interaction analysis of deformation of sail of 30-foot yacht
Sera Bak,Jaehoon Yoo,Chang Yong Song 대한조선학회 2013 International Journal of Naval Architecture and Oc Vol.5 No.2
Most yacht sails are made of thin fabric, and they have a cambered shape to generate lift force; however, their shape can be easily deformed by wind pressure. Deformation of the sail shape changes the flow characteristics over the sail, which in turn further deforms the sail shape. Therefore, fluid-structure interaction (FSI) analysis is applied for the precise evaluation or optimization of the sail design. In this study, fluid flow analyses are performed for the main sail of a 30-foot yacht, and the results are applied to loading conditions for structural analyses. By applying the supporting forces from the rig, such as the mast and boom-end outhaul, as boundary conditions for structural analysis, the deformed sail shape is identified. Both the flow analyses and the structural analyses are iteratively carried out for the deformed sail shape. A comparison of the flow characteristics and surface pressures over the deformed sail shape with those over the initial shape shows that a considerable difference exists between the two and that FSI analysis is suitable for application to sail design.
