<P>Amorphous Bi<SUB>5</SUB>Nb<SUB>3</SUB>O<SUB>15</SUB> (BNO) films were grown at room temperature (RT) on a Cu/Ti/SiO<SUB>2</SUB> /Si substrate using radio frequency magnetron sputtering. All the films were well formed on the Cu electrode with a sharp interface between the film and the electrode. The dielectric constant of the amorphous BNO film grown under 25 W was 46, with a low dissipation factor of 2.7% at 100 kHz. This film exhibited a low leakage current density of 5.5 × 10<SUP>-8</SUP> A/cm<SUP>2</SUP> at 4.5 V and a large breakdown voltage of 7.2 V. However, the electrical properties deteriorated as the sputtering power and the growth temperature increased due to the increased surface roughness; this was because a film with a rough surface generally has a larger surface area, and there can be electric field intensification at surface asperity, which degrade the electrical properties of the film. In addition, the electrical properties were not influenced by the oxygen partial pressure (OPP) because the variation of OPP during the growth of the films did not affect their surface roughness. The amorphous BNO film grown on the Cu/Ti/SiO<SUB>2</SUB>/Si substrate at RT under 25 W may be a good candidate material for an embedded capacitor.</P>

<P>Buckling was observed in Bi5Nb3O15 (BiNbO) films grown on TiN/SiO2/Si at 300 degrees C but not in films grown at room temperature and annealed at 350 degrees C. The 45-nm-thick films showed a high capacitance density and a low dissipation factor of 8.81 fF/mu m(2) and 0.97% at 100 kHz, respectively, with a low leakage current density of 3.46 nA/cm(2) at 2 V. The quadratic and linear voltage coefficients of capacitance of this film were 846 ppm/V-2 and 137 ppm/V, respectively, with a low temperature coefficient of capacitance of 226 ppm/degrees C at 100 kHz. This suggests that a BiNbO film grown on a TiN/SiO2/Si substrate is a good candidate material for high-performance metal-insulator-metal capacitors.</P>

The social demand urges us to use some equipments and structures in high temperature environment. By this occasion, the necessity of studying the fatigue crack growth is an important aspect of new materials. However, the present situation is rarely to accumulate the fatigue data. Especially, 1Cr-1Mo-0.25V steel and 304 stainless steel have been increased to be used under the severe condition of high temperature. And so, the fatigue estimation of those materials is important and appropriate.<br/> Fatigue tests have been carried out to examine the crack initiation, growth behaviour for the small fatigue crack of 1Cr-1Mo-0.25V steel and 304 stainless steel at room temperature and 538℃.<br/> The remote measurement system which has many merits of checking and saving the image for detailed examination was applied to closely detect the crack length.<br/> Generally, the fatigue crack initiated in the form of multiple cracks and grew each other. And then it coalesced to become a major crack. The major crack governed the rest of the fatigue life. In the growing process, each peripheral cracks interact and grow for a certain period. After then, it coalesced and fractured.<br/> On the basis of the above experimental data for the small crack, a simulation program was developed to predict the residual life time and to estimate the integrity of machine elements and structures. At the same time, the simulation was extended to 1Cr-1Mo-0.25V steel. The simulation results have shown a good agrement to those of the experimental ones for both materials of 1Cr-1Mo-0.25V steel and 304 stainless steel with small cracks. The NASCRAC has applied to compare the fatigue life with the experimental results. And so, it can be said that the simulation program is valuable tools to the industrial fields.

<P> <TEX Notation='TeX'><TEX>$\hbox{Bi}_{5}\hbox{Nb}_{3}\hbox{O}_{15}\ (\hbox{B}_{5}\hbox{N}_{3})$</TEX></TEX> films grown under a low oxygen partial pressure (OP) of 1.7 mtorr showed a high leakage current density of 0.1 <TEX Notation='TeX'><TEX>$\hbox{A/cm}^{2}$</TEX></TEX> at 1.0 MV/cm. However, the leakage current density decreased with increasing OP to a minimum of <TEX Notation='TeX'><TEX>$\hbox{5.8} \times \hbox{10}^{-9}\ \hbox{A/cm}^{2}$</TEX></TEX> for the film grown under 5.1 mtorr due to the decreased number of oxygen vacancies. This film also showed an improved breakdown field of 2.2 MV/cm and a large capacitance density of 24.9 <TEX Notation='TeX'><TEX>$\hbox{fF}/\mu\hbox{m}^{2}$</TEX></TEX>. The electrical properties of the film, however, deteriorated with a further increase in OP, which is probably due to the formation of oxygen interstitial ions. Therefore, superior electrical properties for the <TEX Notation='TeX'><TEX>$ \hbox{B}_{5}\hbox{N}_{3}$</TEX></TEX> film can be obtained by careful control of OP. </P>

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Wild birds play a major role in the evolution, maintenance, and dissemination of highly pathogenic avian influenza viruses (HPAIV). Sub-clinical infection with HPAI in resident wild birds could be a source of dissemination of HPAIV and continuous outbreaks. In this study, the pathogenicity and infectivity of two strains of H5N8 clade 2.3.4.4 virus were evaluated in the Mandarin duck (<I>Aix galericulata</I>) and domestic pigeon (<I>Columba livia domestica</I>). None of the birds experimentally infected with H5N8 viruses showed clinical signs or mortality. The H5N8 viruses efficiently replicated in the virus-inoculated Mandarin ducks and transmitted to co-housed Mandarin ducks. Although relatively high levels of viral shedding were noted in pigeons, viral shedding was not detected in some of the pigeons and the shedding period was relatively short. Furthermore, the infection was not transmitted to co-housed pigeons. Immunohistochemical examination revealed the presence of HPAIV in multiple organs of the infected birds. Histopathological evaluation showed the presence of inflammatory responses primarily in HPAIV-positive organs. Our results indicate that Mandarin ducks and pigeons can be infected with H5N8 HPAIV without exhibiting clinical signs; thus, they may be potential healthy reservoirs of the H5N8 HPAIV.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Mandarin ducks and pigeons can be infected with H5N8 HPAI viruses without exhibiting clinical signs. </LI> <LI> The titer of excreted virus was relatively high in a Mandarin duck and was detected in multiple organs. </LI> <LI> Mandarin ducks and pigeons may be potential healthy reservoirs of the H5N8 HPAI virus. </LI> </UL> </P>

Background: Dupilumab, a fully human anti-IL-4Rα mAb, inhibits signaling of IL-4/IL-13, key drivers of type 2/Th2-mediated diseases, such as AD/asthma. Objectives: We report efficacy and safety of dupilumab in Korean patients (pts) with moderate-to-severe AD in a randomized, placebo (PBO)-controlled, multinational phase 3 trial (SOLO 2: NCT02277769). Methods: Pts were randomized 1:1:1 to subcutaneous dupilumab 300mg every 2 weeks (wks; q2w), weekly (qw), or PBO qw, for 16 wks. Results: 708 pts were randomized; 80 were Korean. In the Korean population, more dupilumab-treated pts achieved Investigator’s Global Assessment 0/1 vs PBO at Wk 16 (primary endpoint; q2w/qw vs PBO: 33.3%/33.3% vs 0.0%; both P=0.0018), ≥75% improvement in Eczema Area and Severity Index (29.6%/40.7% vs 7.7%; P=0.0764/P=0.0091) and peak pruritus numerical rating scale ≥4-point improvement from baseline at Wk 16 vs PBO (33.3%/34.6% vs 3.8%; P=0.0113/P=0.0109) (key secondary). Dupilumab also improved Patient Oriented Eczema Measure and Dermatology Life Quality Index vs PBO at Wk 16 (both P<0.01) (secondary). Adverse events (AEs) were reported in 12/27 (q2w) and 8/27 pts (qw) vs 17/26 pts (PBO), none were serious. AD was the most common AE, occurring less frequently in the dupilumab groups vs PBO (4/27 and 4/27 pts vs 16/26 pts). Conclusion: The efficacy and acceptable safety profile of dupilumab in Korean pts were generally consistent with the overall study population.
The ethnic difference of the prevalence of SfaN polymorphism in the nonsyndromic cleft palate

비증후군성 구순구개열은 가장 빈도가 높은 선천성 기형 중의 하나로 특히 한국이나 일본과 같은 극동 지방에서 높은 발생율을 보이고 동유럽에서는 드물게 보고되고 있다. 이러한 인종에 따른 차이는 이 질환에 유전적인 배경이 있음을 의미한다. 본 연구의 목적은 한국인의 비증후군성 구개열과 연관이 있다고 알려진 SfaN1 단일 염기 다형성증의 발현빈도가 한국인 구개열 가족과 루마니아 구순구개열 가족 사이에 통계적으로 유의할만한 차이가 있는지를 알아보기 위하여 시행하였다. 한국인 26가족과 루마니아 18가족을 대상으로 하였다. 전체 인원수는 한국인의 경우 78명이었고 루마니아의 경우 41명이었다. 유전자 서열분석에 사용된 샘플은 각 참여자의 혈액이나 타액을 채취하여 분석하였다. SfaN1 단일 염기 다형 성증은 TCF-β3 유전자의 5번 인트론에서 관찰된다 (A18141G). 결과를 보면 한국인과 루마니아인의 비증후군성 구개열 가족 사이에는 통계적으로 유의할만한 차이가 인지되었다. 전체 샘플 중에서 AA allele는 한국인에서는 18명 (23.1%)이었으나 루마니아는 27명 (65.9%)이었다. AS allele는 한국인에서는 27명 (34.6%)이었으나 루마니아에서는 13명 (31.7%)이었다. GG allele는 한국인에서는 33명 (42.3%)이었으나 루마니아에서는 1명 (2.4%)이었다. 두 집단 사이의 차이는 통계적으로 유의하였다 (p<0.001). 결론적으로 한국인과 루마니아인의 비증후군성 구개열 가족 사이에 SfaN1 단일 염기 다형성증의 발현빈도는 한국인에서 통계적으로 유의할만하게 높게 나타났으며, 이는 한국에서 루마니아보다 비증후군성 구개열의 빈도가 높게 나타나는 현상을 부분적으로 설명하여 주는 것으로 사료된다. Nonsyndromic cleft lip and/or palate (NSCLP) is one of the most common congenital deformities and its prevalence in Far East Asia, such as within Korean and Japanese populations, is relatively high. However, in the eastern part of Europe, clefts are relatively rare situations. These ethnic differences infer a genetic background of the disease. The objective of this study was to compare the frequency of single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) in TGF-β3 between Korean and Romanian cleft families. Korean cleft families samples were collected from twenty-six families (n=78) and Romanian cleft families samples were collected from eighteen families (n=41). For sequencing, the blood or saliva of the subjects was sampled. A single nucleotide plolymorphism was observed in the intron 5 of TGF-β3 (A18141G). The frequency of each allele was significantly different between the Korean and Romanian samples. The AA allele was present in 18 out of 78 Korean samples (23.1%) and in 27 out of 41 Romanian samples (65.9%). The AG was present in 27 (34.6%) out of 78 Koreans and in 13 (31.7%) out of 41 Romanians. The GG was found in 33 (42.3%) Koreans and in 1 (2.4%) Romanian. The difference between the groups was significant (p<0.001). In conclusion, the frequency of observed SNP was significantly different between the two countries. SNP in TGF-β3 in the Korean population seemed to have a higher possibility of occurrence for nonsyndromic cleft palate than the Romanian population.
Time–temperature superposition for foaming kinetics of Al-alloy foams

<P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>Applicability of time–temperature superposition principle to the foaming kinetics of aluminum (Al)-alloy foams produced by powder metallurgical method was investigated. Foaming kinetics above melting temperatures of Al–Si–Cu–Mg foams was studied. The expansion data at various furnace temperatures were collected. Well-known superposition parameters such as Larson-Miller, Orr-Sherby-Dorn, Goldhoff-Sherby and Manson-Succop were established based on the linear iso-expansion lines in plots of log(heating time) versus furnace temperature and log(heating time) versus inverse furnace temperature. In order to study the expansion kinetics of the Al-alloy foams, the expansions were measured in terms of pore fraction using an image analyzer. Finally, the linear relationship between the porosity and the superposition parameters was established.</P>
