Exfoliation of fouling abalone, Haliotis discus hannai from shelters by commercial oxytetracycline (OTC) was observed in culture farms. In the present study, different components of OTC for exfoliation of abalone were investigated to understand how to work. Abalone were detached from shelter in 14,000 ppm of commercial OTC (main ingredients of OTC: OTC-hydrogen chloride (HCl), 50%; glucose, 49%; blue pigment, <1%), but not below 8,000 ppm. A 95% of exfoliation rate was observed in OTC-HCl (7,000 ppm, pH 2.8) but no exfoliation in OTC-HCl (7,000 ppm, pH 5.0), glucose (7,000 ppm) or blue pigment (140 ppm). Moreover 100% exfoliation rate was observed in HCl-seawater of pH 2.8. These results indicate that HCl is the component resulting in exfoliation of the fouling abalone. Abalone was detached in HCl solution (pH 2.5-3.2) within 2 min. However, a lower pH and longer treatment resulted in delayed recovery of the detached abalone. Thus, exfoliation of fouling abalone can be achieved by a low pH treatment with cautious handling.
Exponentially Stable Lyapunov-Function-Based Controller for a Flyback CCM Converter

<P>In this paper, we propose a Lyapunov-function-based controller for the flyback converter operating in the continuous conduction mode (CCM). The controller consists of a duty-ratio feedforward control unit and a Lyapunov-function-based feedback control unit. The duty-ratio feedforward signal is used to reduce the burden from the Lyapunov feedback controller. The control system guarantees global exponential stability of the closed-loop system and, hence, offers fast transient response under large-signal perturbations. In constructing the controller, we use the average model of the flyback CCM converter taking the parasitic components into account. Numerical simulations confirmed its superior performance, and experimental tests validated the proposed control approach.</P>
항원의 투여방법 및 사육환경 변화에 따른 넙치의 특이항체 반응

본 연구에서는 백신을 넙치 양식 현장에 적용하기 위한 기초연구로서 항원의 투여방법 및 항원 투여 후 사육환경 변화에 따른 넙치의 특이 항체 반응에 대한 영향을 조사하였다. 항원의 투여방법에 따른 항체 반응을 조사하기 위해 넙치에 BSA를 복강 및 근육 주사한 후 주기적으로 혈액을 취해 BSA에 대한 항체가를 측정한 결과, 근육 주사법이 복강 주사법보다 항체형성 초기시점에서 약간 높은 항체가를 나타났으나 그 이후의 항체 반응에는 유의적인 차이가 관찰되지 않아, 백신을 투여하는 방법으로 근육 주사법뿐만 아니라 복강 주사법도 유용하게 사용될 수 있을 것으로 사료되었다. 사육환경 변화에 따른 백신의 영향을 조사하기 위해 BSA를 면역시킨 넙치에 사육수온의 급하강, handling 및 중유에 노출시킨 후 항체가를 측정한 결과, 수온변화 및 handling 실험구가 양성 대조구보다 항체형성 초기시점에서 약간 높은 항체가를 나타났으나, 그 이후의 항체 반응에는 서로간의 유의적인 차이는 관찰되지 않아, 위의 환경변화는 넙치의 특이 항체반응에 영향을 거의 끼치지 않는 것으로 확인되었다. 이상의 결과, 넙치 양식현장에서 백신은 일시적인 수온변화, 중유노출 및 handling에 의한 환경변화에서도 유용하게 사용 될 수 있을 것으로 사료되었다. The specific antibody response of olive flounder, Paralichthys olivaceus to change in rearing-environmental conditions post immunization with antigen (bovine serum albumin, BSA) and different routes of antigen administration were investigated by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). To test the effect of routes of antigen administration, flounder were injected intraperioneally or intramuscularlly with 1 mg of BSA. In addition, to test the effect of change in environmental condition post immunization, flounder were injected intraperioneally with 1 mg of antigen, and then were exposed to acute thermal change (the water temperature (WT) was decreased from 21℃ to 15℃ within 30 min and maintained at 15℃ for 3 h), handling (fish were caught and subsequently held out of water for 1 min) or heavy oil (76 g/ 200 L for 2 days). Consequently, there was no significant difference between intraperioneal (IP) and intramuscular (IM) injections except at 10 days post-immunization. With these results, it suggests that both IM and IP injections may be used as route of vaccination. Futhermore, no significant difference was observed in the antibody response among the groups exposed to heavy oil, handling, sudden drop of WT and positive control except at 10 days post-immunization. From these results, it was confirmed that specific antibody response was not affected by the above mentioned rearing-environmental conditions, suggesting that vaccination can be employed at changing rearing-environmental conditions.

A ribbon-type polycrystalline silicon wafer was directly fabricated from liquid silicon via a novel technique for both a fast growth rate and lagre grain size by exploiting gas pressure. Effects of processing parameters such as moving speed of a dummy bar and the length of the solidification zone on continuous casting of the silicon wafer were investigated. Silicon melt extruded from the growth region in the case of a solidification zone with a length of lcm due to incomplete solidification. In case of a solidification zone wieh a length fo 2 cm, on the other hand, continuous casting of the wafer was impossible due to the volume expansion of sil-icon derived from the liquid-solid transformation in solidificatioon zone. Consequently, the optimal length of the solidification zone was 1.5 cm for maintaining the position of the dummy bar was 6 cm/min, but liquid silicon extruded from the growth region without solidification when the moving speed of the dummy barr was≥9 cm/min. This was due to a shift of the position of the solid-liquid interface from the solidification zone to the moving area. The present study repots experimental findings on a new direct growth sys-tem for obtaining silicon wafers with both high quality and producticity, as a candidate for an altemate route for the fabrication of ribbon-type silicon wafers.

<P>In paleoparasitology, which is the study of ancient parasite species, parasite egg remnants in archaeological samples are examined by microscopic or molecular analysis. The parasitological information thus obtained can inform speculation about the parasite-infection patterns that prevailed in ancient societies. The current analysis of ancient feces removed from Joseon period mummies adds six new paleoparasitological outcomes to the existing pool of mummy parasitism data already maintained in South Korea. The current microscopic examination revealed the ancient parasite eggs of Trichuris, Clonorchis,Paragonimus,Ascaris, and Taenia in the Joseon mummy feces. When the updated Joseon data were compared with the 20th-century National Survey statistics of South Korea, clear differences could be observed between ancient and modern parasite infection rates. These results will yield invaluable insights unobtainable by conventional historical investigation that contribute to the knowledge base on the parasitism of pre-industrial East Asian societies.</P>
2001-2016년 까지 바이러스성출혈성패혈증바이러스 (viral hemorrhagic septicemia virus)의 국내 검출 동향 분석

Tendency of viral hemorrhagic septicemia virus (VHSV) detection from 2001 to 2016 in Korea was studied based on 15 reported cases. Since the VHSV was first detected from cultured olive flounder (Paralichthys olivaceus) in Pohang in 2001, it has been continuously reported from olive flounder farms in various regions of the Korean coastal area. So far, the virus has been detected from 2 farmed fishes, 12 wild marine fishes and 2 marine bivalves. All the 67 isolates were belong to VHSV genotype IVa. The predisposing factor analysis from different olive flounder farms revealed that the VHSV were highly detected from the juveniles under 40 g in body weight, in the temperature range from 9.5 to 17℃ and during the period of March to June. Therefore, we recommend that farmers, need to exercise caution against VHSV infection in Spring.
