For ZnO, the optical dielectric functions for polarizations parallel and perpendicular to the optical axis were determined in the photon energy range from 4.0 to 9.5 eV by using generalized spectroscopic ellipsometry and the band structure was calculated by means of the empirical pseudopotential method. From the band structure, a theoretical dielectric function was derived. The dielectric functions reveal features that were identied as band-to-band transitions. The energies of those transitions were assigned to band-to-band transition energies of critical points of the calculated band structure. This presentation introduces a methodological framework that analyzes a model of destination image formation (Baloglu & McCleary 1999; Beerli & Martin 2004). Specifically, the main aims of this study are to investigate what type of stimulus factors (information sources) are connected to the formation of destination image, and to explore if there is a connection between their strength of willingness to visit a destination and their patterns to associate with the destination. The study employs an advanced nonparametric Bayesian relational model (Glückstad, Herlau, Schmidt, Rzepka, Araki and Mørup 2013; Mørup, Glückstad, Herlau & Schmidt, 2014) for a two-steps analysis . The first step attempts to segment consumers according to patterns of attributes consumers associate with three arbitrary selected destinations. The second step statistically analyzes latent structural patterns per segment by contrasting two independent datasets, one consisting of information sources and members of a segment and another consisting of destination attributes and the members of the segment. The results of two-steps analysis demonstrated that patterns of attributes respondents associate with the three selected destinations differ across individuals and the applied method enabled to segment respondents according to the differences, and consumers’ associations, their willingness to visit the destinations and types of information sources they have accessed to learn about the destinations are connected to each other.
Studies on post-tensioned and shaped space-truss domes
Schmidt, Lewis C.,Li, Hewen Techno-Press 1998 Structural Engineering and Mechanics, An Int'l Jou Vol.6 No.6
This paper concerns studies on the shape formation of post-tensioned and shaped steel domes. The post-tensioned and shaped steel domes, assembled initially at ground level in an essentially flat condition, are shaped to a curved space form and erected into the final position by means of a post-tensioning technique. Based on previous studies on this shape formation principle, three post-tensioned and shaped steel domes have been constructed. The results of the shape formation tests and finite element analyses are reported in this paper. It is found that the first two test domes did not furnish a part-spherical shape as predicted by finite element analyses, because the movements of some mechanisms were not controlled sufficiently. With a revised post-tensioning method, the third dome obtained the theoretical prediction. The test results of the three post-tensioned and shaped domes have shown that a necessary condition to form a desired space shape from a planar layout with low joint stiffnesses is that the movements of all the existing mechanisms must be effectively controlled as indicated by the finite element analysis. The extent of the maximum elastic deformation of a post-tensioned and shaped steel structure is determined by the strength of the top chords and their joints. However, due to the semi-rigid characteristic of the top chord joints, the finite element analyses cannot give a close prediction for the maximum elastic deformations of the post-tensioned and shaped steel domes. The results of the current studies can be helpful for the design and construction of this type of structure.

<P>We investigated anisotropic optical behavior in solid-state materials using Fourier transform infrared reflection microspectroscopy in combination with polarization modulation. For a Ca1.8Sr0.2RuO4 crystal with an isotropic optical surface, we found the reflection difference to be very close to zero, independent of the azimuthal angle of the sample. A Ca1.4Sr0.6RuO4 crystal with an anisotropic optical surface, however, exhibited a large anisotropic optical response with a strong angular dependence following a sinusoidal behavior. Furthermore, we examined the spatial distribution of the reflection difference in Bi0.17Ca0.83MnO3+delta using infrared synchrotron radiation and could clearly distinguish microscopic anisotropic domains having different optical axes. These results demonstrate that our experimental scheme can be used as a powerful tool to spectrally and spatially resolve anisotropy of solid-state materials in the mid-infrared region.</P>
Assembly and mobility of exon-exon junction complexes in living cells.

<P>The exon-exon junction complex (EJC) forms via association of proteins during splicing of mRNA in a defined manner. Its organization provides a link between biogenesis, nuclear export, and translation of the transcripts. The EJC proteins accumulate in nuclear speckles alongside most other splicing-related factors. We followed the establishment of the EJC on mRNA by investigating the mobility and interactions of a representative set of EJC factors in vivo using a complementary analysis with different fluorescence fluctuation microscopy techniques. Our observations are compatible with cotranscriptional binding of the EJC protein UAP56 confirming that it is involved in the initial phase of EJC formation. RNPS1, REF/Aly, Y14/Magoh, and NXF1 showed a reduction in their nuclear mobility when complexed with RNA. They interacted with nuclear speckles, in which both transiently and long-term immobilized factors were identified. The location- and RNA-dependent differences in the mobility between factors of the so-called outer shell and inner core of the EJC suggest a hypothetical model, in which mRNA is retained in speckles when EJC outer-shell factors are missing.</P>
