SOME CURIOSITIES OF THE ALGEBRA OF BOUNDED DIRICHLET SERIES
Mortini, Raymond,Sasane, Amol Korean Mathematical Society 2016 대한수학회보 Vol.53 No.1
It is shown that the algebra $\mathfrak{H}^{\infty}$ of bounded Dirichlet series is not a coherent ring, and has infinite Bass stable rank. As corollaries of the latter result, it is derived that $\mathfrak{H}^{\infty}$ has infinite topological stable rank and infinite Krull dimension.

Objective: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is characterized by hyperandrogenism, irregular menstruation, ovulatory dysfunction, and insulin resistance. Recent studies have reported the possible role of phytoestrogens in PCOS. This animal study aimed to evaluate the effects of genistein on insulin resistance, inflammatory factors, lipid profile, and histopathologic indices on PCOS. Methods: PCOS was induced by 1 mg/kg of letrozole in adult Sprague-Dawley rats. The rats then received normal saline (PCOS group), 150 mg/kg of metformin, or 20 mg/kg of genistein dissolved in 1% methylcellulose solution for 42 days. Body weight, the glycemic and lipid profile, and inflammatory, antioxidative, and histopathological parameters were assessed at the end of the intervention. Results: Treatment with genistein significantly alleviated the increased level of fasting blood insulin (p=0.16) and the homeostatic model assessment of insulin resistance (p=0.012). In addition, the genistein group had significantly lower levels of serum malondialdehyde (p=0.039) and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (p=0.003), and higher superoxide dismutase enzyme activity (p<0.001). Furthermore, the histopathological analysis indicated that genistein administration led to an increase in luteinization and the development of fewer cysts (p<0.05). Conclusion: Biochemical and histopathological analyses indicated that genistein administration to rats with PCOS induced significant remission in oxidative, inflammatory, and glycemic and histopathologic parameters (all p<0.05).
Capital Structure and Market Power: Evidence from Thai Firms
Sasanee Lovisuth,Richard Fairchild,Rathin S Rathinasamy 사람과세계경영학회 2009 Global Business and Finance Review Vol.14 No.1
Utilizing a sample of 223 non-financial Thai firms over an eight-year period from 1997-2004, we test the relationship between financing decisions and market power using Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) and fixed-firm effects regressions. Our results show a non-linear relationship between capital structure and market power. Specifically, we find the relationship between total debt and market power, and short-term debt and market power, to be U-shaped, while the relationship between long-term debt and market power exhibits an inverted U-shaped relation. We suggest that these non-linear relationships may result from opposing limited liability and predation effects in the product market.
Assessment of a dual isolation system with base and vertical isolation of the upper portion
Sasan Babaei,Panam Zarfam,Abdolreza Sarvghad Moghadam,Seyed Mehdi Zahrai 국제구조공학회 2023 Structural Engineering and Mechanics, An Int'l Jou Vol.88 No.3
Base isolation is a widely used technique for the seismic control of structures as it reduces the structural seismic demand. However, displacement of the isolation layer is not economically feasible in congested urban areas. To resolve the issue, an innovative system is proposed here to isolate both horizontally at the base and vertically in the upper portion of the structure. A simplified linear three degree-of-freedom (3DOF) model of the system that considers the mass and stiffness ratios of the substructure has been introduced and analyzed in MATLAB by spectrum analysis. The 3DOF model results revealed that, when the period of the soft substructure reaches 2.5 times that of the stiff substructure, the isolation and the lower substructure responses decrease by 65% and 51%, respectively. Time-history analysis of a MDOF system at three frequency ratios under a wide range of ground motions indicated that, at the expense of accepting a certain large drift by the soft substructure in the upper portion of the structure, base isolation displacement can be decreased by 10%.
Anomaly Detection in Smart Homes Using Bayesian Networks
( Sasan Saqaeeyan ),( Hamid Haj Seyyed Javadi ),( Hossein Amirkhani ) 한국인터넷정보학회 2020 KSII Transactions on Internet and Information Syst Vol.14 No.4
The health and safety of elderly and disabled patients who cannot live alone is an important issue. Timely detection of sudden events is necessary to protect these people, and anomaly detection in smart homes is an efficient approach to extracting such information. In the real world, there is a causal relationship between an occupant’s behaviour and the order in which appliances are used in the home. Bayesian networks are appropriate tools for assessing the probability of an effect due to the occurrence of its causes, and vice versa. This paper defines different subsets of random variables on the basis of sensory data from a smart home, and it presents an anomaly detection system based on various models of Bayesian networks and drawing upon these variables. We examine different models to obtain the best network, one that has higher assessment scores and a smaller size. Experimental evaluations of real datasets show the effectiveness of the proposed method.

This study aimed to investigate the fracture and hardening behaviors of transformation induced plasticity (TRIP) steel atdifferent heat-treatments using the uniaxial tensile test and the necking correction method to study the effects of variousheat treating procedures and strain rates in the microstructural evaluation, mechanical properties, and fracture behavior ofthe investigated steel. The uniaxial tensile tests were performed on samples heat-treated through different procedures andstrain rates in the range of 0.005–5 s−1. It was observed that the strain rate slightly affects the formability of TRIP steel indifferent heat-treatment procedures. The obtained results showed that the H3 sample in which the samples austenitized at900 °C for 22 min then soaked at 400 °C for 1 h and finally quenched in oil at 50 °C and cooling at ambient temperature hadthe highest strain fracture. The nucleation and growth of voids, as well as the dynamic equilibrium between strain hardeningand recovery, were reasons for fracture strain increment from 0.005 to 0.1. However, fracture strain decreased at the strainrate of 0.1–5 s−1 due to the decrease of ductility. Also, TRIP steel characterizations were used for modeling the displacementand stress of the anti-roll bar by ANSYS 19.2 parametric language and Solid-Works. The displacement and stress results ofTRIP steel were compared to SAE Class 550 and Class 700 grades of steel.

Objectives: Aflatoxins are a category of poisonous compounds found in most plants, milk and dairy products. The present research was carried out to detect the presence of aflatoxin M1 (AFM1) in samples of milk collected from Hamadan province, Iran. Methods: Twenty five samples of ultra-high temperature (UHT) and 63 samples of pasteurized milk were collected and the amount of AFM1 was measured by an Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay method. In addition, the estimated daily intake (EDI) and hazard index (HI) of AFM1 was determined by the following equations:(EDI= mean concentration of AFM1 × daily consumption of milk/body weight; HI= EDI/Tolerance Daily Intake). Results: AFM1 was detected in 21 (84%) UHT milk samples and in 55 (87.30%) pasteurized milk samples. Seven (28%) samples of UHT and 21 (33.33%) pasteurized milk samples had higher AFM1 content than the limit allowed in the European Union and Iranian National Standard Limits (0.05 μg/kg). None of the samples exceeded the US Food and Drug Administration limit (0.5 μg/kg) for AFM1. EDI and HI for AM1 through milk were 0.107 ng/kg body weight/day, and 0.535, respectively. Conclusion: A significant percentage of milk produced by different factories in Iran (84% of UHT and 87.3% of pasteurized milk) was contaminated with AFM1. Therefore, more control and monitoring of livestock feeding in dairy companies may help reduce milk contamination with AFM1. As the HI value was lower than 1, it can be assumed that there was no risk of developing liver cancer due to milk consumption.
