High strength and formable Mg-6.2Zn-0.5Zr-0.2Ca alloy sheet processed by twin roll casting
Bhattacharjee, T.,Suh, B.C.,Sasaki, T.T.,Ohkubo, T.,Kim, N.J.,Hono, K. Elsevier Sequoia 2014 Materials science & engineering. properties, micro Vol.609 No.-
Twin roll cast and hot rolled Mg-6.2wt%Zn alloys microalloyed with Zr, Ca, and Ag show tensile yield strength exceeding 300MPa in the T6 (peak-aged) condition with reasonable formability in the T4 condition. The addition of Zr and Ca plays a critical role in the development of weak textured recrystallized microstructure in Mg-6.2wt%Zn alloys so Mg-6.2Zn-0.5Zr-0.2Ca (wt%) alloy shows equivalent mechanical properties with Mg-6.2Zn-0.5Zr-0.2Ca-0.4Ag (wt%) alloy even without expensive Ag.

<P>This article assesses current understanding of hysteresis in transport relations, and its impact on the field. The rapid changes of fluxes compared to slow changes of plasma parameters are overviewed for both core and edge plasmas. The modulation ECH experiment is explained, in which the heating power cycles on-and-off periodically, revealing hysteresis and fast changes in the gradient–flux relation. The key finding is that hystereses were observed simultaneously in both the the gradient–flux and gradient–fluctuation relations. Hysteresis with rapid timescale exists in the channels of energy, electron and impurity densities, and plausibly in momentum. Advanced methods of data analysis are explained. Transport hysteresis can be studied by observing the higher harmonics of temperature perturbation <img ALIGN='MIDDLE' ALT='$\delta T_{\rm m}$ ' SRC='http://ej.iop.org/images/0029-5515/57/10/102021/nfaa796aieqn001.gif'/> in heating modulation experiments. The hysteresis introduces the term <img ALIGN='MIDDLE' ALT='$\delta T_{\rm m}$ ' SRC='http://ej.iop.org/images/0029-5515/57/10/102021/nfaa796aieqn002.gif'/>, which depends on the harmonic number <I>m</I> in an algebraic manner (not exponential decay). Next, the causes of hysteresis and its fast timescale are discussed. The nonlocal-in-space coupling works here, but does not suffice. One mechanism for ‘the heating heats turbulence’ is that the external source <I>S</I> in phase space for heating has its fluctuation in turbulent plasma. This coupling can induce the direct input of heating power into fluctuations. The height of the jump in transport hysteresis is smaller for heavier hydrogen isotopes, and could be one of the origins of isotope effects on confinement. Finally, the impacts of transport hysteresis on the control system are assessed. Control systems must be designed so as to protect the system from sudden plasma loss.</P>

The objective of this study was to evaluate the feasibility of posterior colpotomy for the surgical treatment oftubal ectopic pregnancy in hemodynamically stable women. We performed a retrospective analysis of medicalrecords obtained over a period of 18 months. Twelve cases were identified, with the following characteristics: meangestational age, 7.7 weeks; mean serum β-human chorionic gonadotropin level, 7,786 mIU/mL; and greater diameterof the mass, 15–69 mm. Treatment was successful in all cases. Salpingectomy was performed in 10 patients (83.3%)and salpingostomy, in 1 patient. The remaining patient only received peritoneal lavage, as the evidence of ectopicabortion with only a slightly dilated uterine tube was found during surgery. The mean surgical time was 42.5 minutes. In the analyzed cases, posterior colpotomy was found to be a feasible alternative method for the surgical treatmentof tubal ectopic pregnancy in hemodynamically stable women.

Amorphous Al85Ni10La5 powders were consolidated to cylindrical samples by spark plasma sintering (SPS), and their microstructures and mechanical properties were investigated. When the powders were consolidated below the crystallization temperature, an amorphous phase was retained in the consolidated sample. Sintering above the crystallization temperature caused full crystallization. The Vickers hardness of the amorphous-containing sample was about 350HV in the as-sintered state and increased up to 450HV by a subsequent heat treatment just below the crystallization temperature. The highest hardness was achieved in a nanocrystalline microstructure. Compression tests revealed the brittle nature of the consolidated samples although the fracture and yield strength was higher than 1GPa. The brittleness is due to the low relative density of the amorphous-containing samples and the presence of a large amount of intermetallic compounds in the fully crystallized sample.

A microgrid supply/demand control system is proposed. In this control system, operation planning is realized based on generation and load forecasting by using artificial neural network and fuzzy systems. Unit commitment of generations includes start/stop of power generations and energy storages. Load following function is accomplished based on PI control scheme. To compensate for the power fluctuation in microgrid, power system stabilizer with EDLC is proposed..

<P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>Nanocrystalline Al–5at.% Fe alloy powders produced by mechanical alloying were consolidated by spark plasma sintering. The sintered sample showed high strength >1000MPa with a large plastic strain of 15% at room temperature and 500MPa at 350°C. Microstructure characterizations by transmission electron microscopy and atom probe tomography revealed that the sintered samples are composed of α-Al and Al6Fe nanocrystalline regions with 90nm in diameter and a minor fraction of Al13Fe4 phase and coarsened 0.5–1μm α-Al grains. This bimodally grained feature is attributed to the relatively large plastic strain for the strength level of 1000MPa at room temperature.</P>
Involvement of laminin and integrins in adhesion and migration of junctional epithelium cells
Kinumatsu, T.,Hashimoto, S.,Muramatsu, T.,Sasaki, H.,Jung, H-S,Yamada, S.,Shimono, M. Blackwell Publishing Ltd 2009 Journal of periodontal research Vol.44 No.1
<P>Background and Objective: </P><P>The junctional epithelium attaches to the enamel surface with hemidesmosomes (of which laminin-5 and integrin-&agr;6&bgr;4 are the main components) in the internal basal lamina. Laminin-5 is also involved in cell motility with integrin-&agr;3&bgr;1, although their functions have not yet been clarified. The purpose of this study was to determine the functions of those adhesive components between the tooth and the junctional epithelium during cell migration. Because an idea has been proposed that directly attached to tooth cells (DAT cells) may not contribute to cell migration, 5-bromo-2-deoxyuridine staining was performed to confirm cell migration.</P><P>Material and Methods: </P><P>We investigated laminin-&ggr;2 (contained only in laminin-5), integrin-&bgr;4 (involved in cell–extracellular matrix contact) and integrin-&agr;3 (inducing cell migration) in the junctional epithelium, oral gingival epithelium and gingival sulcus epithelium of 6-wk-old ICR mice using laser microdissection, quantitative real-time reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction, immunofluorescence and 5-bromo-2-deoxyuridine staining.</P><P>Results: </P><P>Laminin and integrins were clearly immunolocalized in the basal lamina of all epithelium. Quantitative analysis of laminin and integrin mRNAs by laser microdissection showed that they were more highly expressed in DAT cells than in basal cells in the oral gingival epithelium. In particular, a 12-fold higher expression of laminin-5 was observed in the junctional epithelium compared with the oral gingival epithelium. 5-Bromo-2-deoxyuridine staining showed rapid coronal migration of DAT cells.</P><P>Conclusion: </P><P>These results suggest that the abundant expression of laminin-5 and integrin-&agr;6&bgr;4 is involved in the attachment of DAT cells to teeth by hemidesmosomes. Abundant expression of laminin-5 and integrin-&agr;3&bgr;1 might assist in DAT cell migration, confirmed by 5-bromo-2-deoxyuridine staining during the turnover of junctional epithelium.</P>
