Chinese and Korean Scholars’ Narratives on Buddhism in ancient China and Korea
Santosh K. Gupta(Santosh K. Gupta ),Sanjay Kumar(Sanjay Kumar ) 강원한국학연구원 2022 국제한국학저널 Vol.12·13 No.-
Chinese and Korean scholar monks played significant role in reshaping Buddhist linkages between East Asian countries, particularly China and Korea. Transmission of Buddhist thought and culture developed scholarly people to people contact between China, Korea and neighboring states or confederacy which were more complex than today. This paper studies the narratives of Buddhist teachings, its expansion in Silk-road and narratives of Chinese and Korean Buddhist as an intermediary for assimilation of philosophical thoughts. The paper also focuses on the role of monks and scholars in forging cultural discourse of India with East Asia.

Right double inferior vena cava with obstructed retrocaval ureter is an extremely rare anomaly with only a few reported cases in the literature. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first case report describing ureteric repair by use of a single-incision laparoscopic technique. In addition, this report addresses the underlying surgical challenges of this repair and provides a brief review of the embryology of this anomaly. The “Santosh Postgraduate Institute ureteric tacking fixation technique” provides ease of end-to-end uretero-ureteric anastomosis in a single-incision laparoscopic surgery.

We describe a case of a solitary functioning kidney with giant hydronephrosis secondary to ureteropelvic junction obstruction in a young girl who underwent successful robot-assisted tubularized flap pyelovesicostomy. The aim of this report was to highlight the feasibility and efficacy of this technique in salvaging such renal moieties and to present a brief review of the surgical options available for the management of giant hydronephrosis.
Cell penetrating peptides as an innovative approach for drug delivery; then, present and the future
Santosh Bashyal,노규빈,금태광,최영욱,이상길 한국약제학회 2016 Journal of Pharmaceutical Investigation Vol.46 No.3
With the rapid development of biotechnology, various macromolecules as therapeutic agents have made drug delivery an important field of research. However, these are being commercialized as injection form. Due to low patient compliance, various non-invasive routes emerge as a promising strategy. Cell penetrating peptides (CPPs) have shown to assist in efficient and non-toxic manner. They provide ample evidence to deliver of many cargoes ranging from small molecules to proteins and even nanocarriers for various applications. This review briefly discusses about introduction of CPPs, history, cellular uptake mechanisms and various possible alternative routes for CPP-conjugated drug delivery system. It also aims to give a perspective on present status of CPP-mediated research, clinical development, possible obstacles as well as future opportunities. Thus, development of novel CPPs that are safe, tissue-specific and highly efficient will be exemplified and become ideal vehicles for therapeutic delivery in near future.

Polyether block amides (PEBA) composite membranes were prepared by dispersing different two dimensional (2D) layered nanomaterials such as graphene, graphene oxide and molybdenum disulphide (MoS2) in PEBA matrix. These composite membranes were applied for the pervaporation separation of butyric acid produced by anaerobic digestion (AD) of perennial grass. Among all the tested membranes PEBA–graphene membrane showed the best performance with butyric acid flux og 24.3 g/m2h and separation factor of 21. Further on varying the graphene content in the membranes showed improved separation efficiency with increased thermal and mechanical properties of the membranes
Three New Records of Lichen Genera Opegrapha and Phaeographis from the Republic of Korea
( Santosh Joshi ),( Udeni Jayalal ),( Soon Ok Oh ),( Jae Seoun Hur ) 한국균학회 2012 Mycobiology Vol.40 No.3
This paper provides a description of Opegrapha herbarum, Opegrapha viridis and Phaeographis subdividens, all newly identified in the Republic of Korea. The characteristic features of O. herbarum include Varia-type asci, Subelevata-type ascospores, a lack of secondary metabolites and a saxicolous habitat. O. viridis possesses Calcarea-type asci, Vulgata-type ascospores and no chemicals in the thallus. P. subdividens is recognizable by its curved to sinuous lirellae, divergent labia, a brown and uniformly thick proper exciple which is open at its base, 3~4-septate ascospores, and lack of secondary metabolites. All three taxa are now reported to exist on Bogil Island in the Republic of Korea.

Preventive effects of hydroalcoholic extract of fruit pulp of Eugenia jambolana (HEEJ) on isoproterenol (ISP)-induced myocardial damage in rats were evaluated. Rats were pre-treated with HEEJ (100, 200, and 400 mg/kg) daily for 30 days. ISP (85 mg/kg bw) was administered on the 28th and 29th days at an interval of 24 h. Ischemic control group exhibited significant increases in oxidative stress parameters, markers of inflammation, cardiac damage markers, and apoptotic markers. Oral pre-treatment with HEEJ (100, 200, and 400 mg/kg bw) provided cardioprotective activity by decreasing levels of malondialdehyde, cardiac markers (serum glutamate oxaloacetate transaminase, creatine kinase-myocardial band, cardiac troponin I), and markers of inflammation (interleukin-6, C-reactive protein, and tumor necrosis factor alpha); and increased levels of superoxide dismutase and reduced glutathione. HEEJ (400 mg/kg bw) was found to exert significantly greater effects in comparison to HEEJ (100 and 200 mg/kg bw). Apoptotic marker Bcl-2 was increased, while Bax was decreased in pretreated rats, which was further confirmed by terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase-mediated dUTP nick end labeling assay. The present study provides evidence that pre-treatment with HEEJ attenuates oxidative stress, apoptosis and improves cardiac architecture in ISP-induced rats and, hence, is cardioprotective.
Fragmented Pigtail Percutaneous Nephrostomy Tubes: Etiology and Management
Santosh Kumar,Raguram Ganesamoni,Bhuvanesh Nanjappa,Varun Sharma 대한비뇨의학회 2012 Investigative and Clinical Urology Vol.53 No.7
Purpose: To review our experience with the management of fragmented and retained pigtail percutaneous nephrostomy (PCN) tubes and to explore the reasons for the fragmentation. Materials and Methods: We retrospectively reviewed our institute database from January 2006 to December 2011 for patients who had undergone retrieval of fragmented PCN tubes. We assessed the preoperative factors, operative technique, and post-operative outcomes. Results: A total of seven patients (4 males and 3 females) had been diagnosed with fragmented PCN tubes. The mean age of the patients was 41.5 years. Of the seven patients, five required antegrade instrumentation by way of a percutaneous tract to remove the foreign body, mostly along with stone retrieval. One patient underwent ureterorenoscopy and pneumolithotripsy for a ureteric stone along with ureteroscopic removal of the PCN fragment. Another patient underwent nephrectomy of the kidney containing the PCN fragment because it had become nonfunctioning. All patients were free of stones and symptoms on follow-up. Conclusions: A prolonged waiting period for definitive surgery, urinary infection, and associated stone disease are significant factors causing fragmentation of PCN tubes. Proper insertion techniques, regular timed changes of the PCN tube, appropriate care of the PCN tube, and early surgery for underlying stone disease are required to avoid this complication. Patients with retained PCN tubes can be managed effectively with antegrade or retrograde endoscopic techniques while definitive management of the primary pathology is carried out, without any additional morbidity.
