A simple Nash-Moser Implicit Function Theorem in weighted Banach Spaces
Sanghyun Cho,Jaeseo Choi 대한수학회 2003 대한수학회보 Vol.40 No.2
We prove a simplified version of the Nash-Moser implicitfunction theorem in weighted Banach spaces. We relax theconditions so that the linearized equation has an approximateinverse in different weighted Banach spaces in each recurrencestep.

We demonstrate that ruthenium oxide ($RuO_2$) nanotubes with controlled dimensions can be synthesized using facile electrochemical means and anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) templates. $RuO_2$ nanotubes were formed using a cyclic voltammetric deposition technique and an aqueous plating solution composed of $RuCl_3$. Linear sweep voltammetry (LSV) was used to determine the effective electrochemical oxidation potential of $Ru^{3+}$ to $RuO_2$. The length and wall thickness of $RuO_2$ nanotubes can be adjusted by varying the range and cycles of the electrochemical cyclic voltammetric potentials. Thick-walled $RuO_2$ nanotubes were obtained using a wide electrochemical potential range (-0.2~1 V). In contrast, an electrochemical deposition potential range from 0.8 to 1 V produced thin-walled and longer $RuO_2$ nanotubes in an identical number of cycles. The dependence of wall thickness and length of $RuO_2$ nanotubes on the range of cyclic voltammetric electrochemical potentials was attributed to the distinct ionic diffusion times. This significantly improves the ratio of surface area to mass of materials synthesized using AAO templates. Furthermore, this study is directive to the controlled synthesis of other metal oxide nanotubes using a similar strategy.

Let M be a smooth real hypersurface in complex space of dimension $n$, $n{\geq}3$, and assume that the Levi-form at $z_0$ on M has at least $(q+1)$-positive eigenvalues, $1{\leq}q{\leq}n-2$. We estimate solutions of the local $\bar{\partial}$-closed extension problem near $z_0$ for $(p,q)$-forms in Sobolev spaces. Using this result, we estimate the local solution of tangential Cauchy-Riemann equation near $z_0$ in Sobolev spaces.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to investigate cancer patients' utilization of tertiary hospitals in Seoul before and after the benefit expansion policy implemented in 2013. Methods: This was a before-and-after study using claims data of the Korean National Health Insurance Service from 2011 to 2016. The unit of analysis was inpatient episodes, and inpatient episodes involving a malignant neoplasm (International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Revision codes: C00-C97) were included in this study. The total sample (n=5 565 076) was divided into incident cases and prevalent cases according to medical use due to cancer in prior years. The tertiary hospitals in Seoul were divided into two groups (the five largest hospitals and the other tertiary hospitals in Seoul). Results: The proportions of the incident and prevalent episodes occurring in tertiary hospitals in Seoul were 34.9% and 37.2%, respectively, of which more than 70% occurred in the five largest hospitals in Seoul. Utilization of tertiary hospitals in Seoul was higher for inpatient episodes involving cancer surgery, patients with a higher income, patients living in areas close to Seoul, and patients living in areas without a metropolitan city. The utilization of the five largest hospitals increased by 2 percentage points after the policy went into effect. Conclusions: The utilization of tertiary hospitals in Seoul was concentrated among the five largest hospitals. Future research is necessary to identify the consequences of this utilization pattern.

<P>In this work, we report on a novel strategy to synthesize high-density graphene edges on a vertically-aligned nanorod array substrate based on multiple segmented Ni-Au units. The growth of graphene layers on Ni and Au was performed by chemical vapor deposition (CVD) leading to the effective generation of edge-rich multilayer graphene due to the distinct carbon solubility. The composite material was applied as an anode in a lithium ion battery (LIB) whose discharging capacity was found to closely depend on the total number of Ni-Au junctions within the vertical nanorods. Graphene deposited on the 19-junction composite Ni-(Au-Ni)9exhibited an ultrahigh capacity of 86.3 μAh cm−2at 50 μA cm−2which was much higher than graphene deposited on 1-junction, 2-junction and pure Ni nanorods. This ultrahigh capacity was mainly ascribed to the generation of high-density graphene edges engineered by the bimetallic junction. The proposed strategy opens new appealing routes to synthesize high-density graphene edges using bimetallic junctions, which is promising for increasing the performance of LIBs and other electrochemical energy systems (supercapacitors, fuel cells,<I>etc</I>.).</P>

Background: Mechanical failures of tumor endoprosthesis in the distal femur usually require revision surgery. We investigated if the proximal femur host bone can be salvaged by onlay and overlapping allograft in revision surgeries due to aseptic loosening and stem fractures. Methods: We retrospectively reviewed 18 patients (7 men and 11 women) with osteosarcoma around the knee. The entire cohort was classified into three subgroups (no bone graft: 6, onlay allograft: 7, and overlapping allograft: 5) according to our treatment strategy. Results: The median interval from the initial surgery to the revision was 94.5 months (range, 21–219 months), and the median follow-up period from the revision surgery was 88.0 months (range, 24–179 months). At the last follow-up, 9 of the 18 patients maintained their endoprostheses, and the 5-year prosthesis survival rate was 57.9%. Limb survival was 100%. Five-year prosthesis survival rate was 66.7% in the no bone graft group, 85.7% in the onlay allograft group while 30.0% in the overlapping allograft group. In the no bone graft group and onlay allograft group, 66.7% (4/6) and 57.1% (4/7) maintained their revision prostheses while no prostheses survived in the overlapping allograft group. Recurrent stem loosening was observed in 14.2% (1/7) and 60.0% (3/5) of the onlay allograft and overlapping allograft groups, respectively, despite allograft bone union. The complication rate was 66.7% (12/18) in the entire cohort. The most common type of complication was infection (n = 6), followed by aseptic loosening (n = 4) and mechanical failure (n = 2). Conclusions: This study indicates that onlay allograft can be used as a supportive method in revising failed endoprosthesis if the extent of host bone destruction is extensive. However, applying overlapping allograft to secure bone stock showed a high rate of mechanical failures and infection in the long term. Future studies with a larger cohort are necessary to assess the prognostic factors for the higher complication rate in overlapping allograft and the need for overlapping allograft. Surveillance with consideration of the risk of anteromedial osteolysis in allograft and efforts for prevention of periprosthetic infection are essential.

<P>Remote ischemic preconditioning (RIPC) is a strategy to induce resistance in a target organ against the oxidative stress and injury caused by ischemia and reperfusion (IR). RIPC harnesses the body's endogenous protective capabilities through brief episodes of IR applied in organs remote from the target. Few studies have analyzed this phenomenon in the kidney. Furthermore, the window of protection representing RIPC efficacy has not been fully elucidated. Here, we performed a multiomics study to specify those associated with protective effects of RIPC against the IR injury. A total of 30 mice were divided to four groups: sham, IR only, late RIPC + IR, and early RIPC + IR. We found that IR clearly led to tubular injury, whereas both preconditioning groups exhibited attenuated injury after the insult. In addition, renal IR injury produced changes of the metabolome in kidney, serum, and urine specimens. Furthermore, distinctive mRNA and associated protein expression changes supported potential mechanisms. Our findings revealed that RIPC effectively reduces renal damage after IR and that the potential mechanisms differed between the two time windows of protection. These results may potentially be extended to humans to allow non- or minimally invasive diagnosis of renal IR injury and RIPC efficacy.</P>
