There has always been a popular demand for effective retrieval of music data by users. In order to make music retrieval more effective, music needs to be represented in an effective way. In this paper we propose a visual method of representing music input by users for effective retrieval of music from database. It enables users to express their description of music requests in a more convenient way than the previous ones. The proposed visual representation of music can be used to express users' demand for content-based music retrieval. This paper illustrates the effectiveness of the proposed approach by applying it to a content-based music retrieval system for Korean folk music database.
IT학과와 비IT학과 졸업자간의 노동시장성과 비교분석연구

본 연구는 IT 졸업자들의 성과를 보기 위하여 IT전공자와 비전공자간의 고용, 임금, 근속기간 등 노동시장의 핵심적인 요인들을 Monte-Carlo와 Calibration 방법인 실증 모형을 통한 추정으로 분석하였다. 연구결과 중 취업에서 실업으로의 이동을 살펴보면, 4년제 IT 전공자는 반복적인 취업에 상관없이 안정적인 근속일수를 보여주고 있으나 비IT학과 전공자의 근속일수는 취업횟수가 반복됨에 따라 줄어들고 있다. IT 관련학과 졸업자들은 여섯 번째 취업까지 비 IT 학과 졸업자에 비해 상대적으로 임금을 더 받는 것을 알 수 있었다. 그리고 임금효과에 대한 실증 분석에서는 대학졸업자의 능력에 대해 통제한 후 대학에서 IT를 전공한 졸업생의 임금은 비 IT 학과 졸업자들에 비해 0.8% 정도의 임금프리미엄이 있었다. 연구의 시사점으로는 첫째 IT 노동시장은 전문대 수준의 기술을 가진 사람보다는 대학 이상의 수준의 인력에 대한 지속적인 수요가 존재하고 있으며 둘째 임금측면에서 볼 때 개인의 능력을 고려할 경우 임금차이는 비록 통계적으로 유의할 지라도 금액상에서 커다란 차이가 없어 IT 전공의 프리미엄은 임금과 같은 근로조건 보다는 취업, 즉 고용의 가능성과 안정성에 있다하겠다. 끝으로 분석을 IT 산업과 다른 산업과 비교하지 못한 점은 연구의 한계로 지적 하고 싶다. This study investigated the labor market outcomes between IT graduates and non-IT graduates in terms of employment, wage, and work period through Monte-Carlo and Calibration method. The empirical result of the movement from work to unemployment implied that IT major graduates have stable work period irrespective of continuous employment, and but the number of work period of non-IT graduates decreases. It also showed that IT related department graduates got relatively paid more than non-IT graduates and IT major graduates was 0.8% higher wage premium than non-IT graduates.
Use of stream environment by river otters in Hongcheon river, Gangwon Province, Korea

본 연구는 강원도 홍천강 유역에 서식하는 수달이 선호하는 지역을 파악하기 위해 수달의 배설물을 이용하여 하천환경 의 현황을 분석하였다. 수달의 배설물은 영역표시 및 서식지이용에 대한 근거로 활용되기 때문이며, 이를 통한 하천의 주요 서식지를 확인할 수 있다. 내촌천과 군업천의 수달은 2009-2011년 총 8회 기간에 478개의 서식흔적이 발견되는 지점을 중심으로 조사되었으며 서식지 이용현황을 파악하기 위한 분산지수를 활용하였다. 두 하천 모두 계절적 이용의 변화가 나타났으며, 분산지수 값 1은 배설물이 집중되는 것을 의미하며 이는 하천 이용이 임의적이 아닌 것임을 나타 내었다. 수달은 하천 주변의 5m 이내의 지역이며, 어류와 잔목이 풍부한 수변지역을 선호하는 것으로 나타났다. 수달 의 서식지 이용에 대한 정확한 환경조건을 파악하기 위한 모델의 개발이 시급한 것으로 조사되었다. This study aims at favorable environmental conditions by river otter residing in Hongcheon river ecosystems using spraints along the river. Otter spraints were indicative of habitat use pattern and marking a territory in the areas. Nae-chon and Kuneob-chon river otter spraints were collected totaling 478 with 8 times during 2009-2011, and based on the number river use patterns were analyzed with the technique of index of dispersion. Results with larger than one indicated that river otter habitat use pattern were not random; instead they used preferred areas for habitat use. ‘I’ values greater than one indicate a clumped distribution and lower than one indicate random distribution. This study also demonstrated that we need a sophiscated linear model that should be developed to identify key habitat elements in river ecosystems.
Distribution and abundance of wintering raptors in the Korean peninsula

The purpose of this study is to examine distribution and abundance of wintering raptors in Korea during 2000-2007 which is a rare data set for covering large landscape areas. Total 6,643 raptors of 16 species were recorded at 94 different points in west, south and east coasts, and rivers of inland areas all over Korea. During the study period, the most abundant raptors were black vulture (Aegypius monachus, 62.3%), common kestrel (Falco tinnunculus, 11.0%) and common buzzard (Buteo buteo, 10.0%), and these 3 birds were dominant species in inland areas and also considered as resident species except for black vulture. Also, there was a difference among 5 different habitat types. Black vultures were most found in estuaries whereas common buzzard and common kestrel could be found in coastal areas. Presumably raptors prefer reservoirs and estuaries probably due to lower human disturbance in these areas, and management efforts should be concentrated in inland areas for black vulture and coastal areas for common kestrel and common buzzard.
Efficient Gathering of Monitoring Data for Ship Block Assembly

Distance-measuring sensors can support remote monitoring of ship block assembly to minimize marginal positioning errors during the assembling process. Sensed data from several sensors are transferred to a gathering server, and are analyzed to diagnose status of block assembly. As the precision of data required for monitoring ship block assembly differs according to how close parts of two blocks are, considering assembly status in sensor data gathering provides chances of optimization. As the sensor data are pushed to the server, the data gathering server also needs to be resilient to support continuously arriving data. This paper proposes methods of efficiently gathering and managing remotely sensed data in ship block assembly monitoring.
Metadata Management for Korean Namdo Traditional Folk Music

Metadata is important because it aids in clarifying and finding the actual data. For multimedia data, metadata provides effective way to describe the data itself, and also to support alternative search methods. This paper describes a web portal system which supports management of Korean traditional Namdo folk music. It also proposes metadata structure to describe Korean Namdo traditional folk songs effectively.
An Experience on Building An Internet Shopping Service

This paper describes an experience to design and implement an online shopping mall service in an internet environment. It explores the practical problems facing when we build a shopping service on the internet-based application environments. From the identification of the roles and interactions between major users of computer-based shopping services, it characterizes the requirements of an internet shopping service. It also describes some issues involved in the design ad implementation phase of the successful shopping service. In this paper, the system architecture for a shopping service is described and the prototype shopping service system based on this architecture is presented.
