울증(鬱證)환자에게 용서프로그램을 활용한 오지상승요법(五志相勝療法)을 시행하여 호전된 1례

Yuzheng(鬱證) comes from obstruction of qi by stress. The patient has depressed mood, irritable sign, chest discomfort, costal pain, angry state or some strange feeling on the throat. Oh-Ji-Sang-Seung(五志相勝) therapy is base on the theory of interrelation in five elements in oriental medicine. The contents of Oh-Ji-Sang-Seung(五志相勝) therapy include five subjugations of five emotions. Anxiety subjugates fear(思勝恐), fear subjugates joy(恐勝喜), joy subjugates pity(喜勝悲), pity subjugates anger(悲勝怒), and anger subjugates anxiety(怒勝思). Forgiveness program is a kind of psychological therapies to decrease the degree of anger and it is included in Oh-Ji-Sang-Seung(五志相勝) therapy. In this case, a female patient, 50 years old, who suffered from Yuzheng(鬱證) with chest discomfort, irritable sign, easily angry state, depressed mood, hot flush, insomnia. We used Oh-Ji-Sang-Seung(五志相勝) therapy besides herbal medication, acupuncture to her condition got improved. Therefore we reported it for the treatment.

<P>Anaplastic thyroid carcinoma (ATC) is an aggressive human tumor with a median survival of 6 months. We previously developed an agonistic anti-death receptor 4 MAB, AY4, and demonstrated the antitumor effects of AY4 in head and neck cancer cells. Presently, we show that ATC cells are sensitive to AY4 and that the sensitivity correlates with the reduced expression level of Bcl-xL and reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation. AY4 induced death of C-643, U-HTH 7, HTH83, and SW1736 cells. To elucidate the role of ROS generation in AY4-induced apoptosis of ATC cells, U-HTH 7 and SW1736 cells were pretreated with an antioxidant (<I>N</I>-acetyl cysteine, NAC) followed by AY4 treatment. The cell death was blocked by NAC. AY4-induced cell death was accompanied by the downregulation of the anti-apoptotic protein, Bcl-xL (BCL2L1). To examine the link between the apoptotic response and Bcl-xL protein expression, U-HTH 7 cells were transfected with Bcl-xL plasmid. The consequence of the overexpression of Bcl-xL appeared to decrease AY4-mediated cell death by blocking ROS generation in U-HTH 7 cells. By contrast, Bcl-xL knockdown using small interfering RNA of Bcl-xL enhanced AY4 sensitivity in HTH83 and C-643 cells and rendered the cells sensitive to AY4-induced cell death. The results support the conclusion that the expression level of Bcl-xL is important in the AY4-induced apoptosis of ATC cells through ROS generation. AY4 may be a promising tool for ATC therapy.</P>

Many hangover cure products containing natural ingredients that are also effective against alcohol-related liver damage or improve liver function have recently become available. In addition to curing liver damage, antioxidants, anti-inflammatory agents, and blood ethanol reduction aids are emerging as relief targets that reduce hangover symptoms. We investigated the ameliorating effect of WON-21 herbal medicinal products by studying the mixing ratio of oriental medicine concept with respect to antioxidant potential, anti-inflammation, and aldehyde dehydrogenase (ALDH) and alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH) enzyme activities. WON-21 and its components exerted antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects. Rutin, taxifolin, and quercetin showed superior antioxidant effects compared to the other components. WON-12 effectively reduced iNOS and COX-2 in LPS-stimulated macrophages. Quercetin and apigenin were 2 compounds effective for the inhibition of iNOS and COX-2. WON-21 and quercetin also significantly increased the activities of ALDH and ADH enzymes in a concentration-dependent manner.
The Design Features of the Advanced Power Reactor 1400

The Advanced Power Reactor 1400 (APR1400) is an evolutionary advanced light water reactor (ALWR) based on the Optimized Power Reactor 1000 (OPR1000), which is in operation in Korea. The APR1400 incorporates a variety of engineering improvements and operational experience to enhance safety, economics, and reliability. The advanced design features and improvements of the APR1400 design include a pilot operated safety relief valve (POSRV), a four-train safety injection system with direct vessel injection (DVI), a fluidic device (FD) in the safety injection tank, an in-containment refueling water storage tank (IRWST), an external reactor vessel cooling system, and an integrated head assembly (IHA). Development of the APR1400 started in 1992 and continued for ten years. The APR1400 design received design certification from the Korean nuclear regulatory body in May of 2002. Currently, two construction projects for the APR1400 are in progress in Korea.
