        The effects of the externally supplied carbohydrates and the growth substances on pollen germination rate and pollen tube development were investigated in Korean White Pine(Pinus koraiensis Sieb. et Zucc.). Results obtained were as follows; 1. Sucrose treatment showed the highest pollen germination rate(90.76%) and raffinose treatment did the longest pollen tube length(184.58㎛), but sodium acetate and mannose prevented pollen germination. 2. In the media added IBA the highest pollen germination rate and the longest pollen tube length appeared. 3. The optimum concentration of IBA treatment was 50 ppm for the pollen germination and tube development.

      • 잣나무 風媒次代 12年生을 樹高 및 植徑生長의 遺傳力과 改良效果

        Twenty Korean white pine(Pinus koraiensis) families were tested in 3 different regions. Family, site, and family x site interaction were significant sources of variation for height and diameter growth of progenies. The average height and diameter were 293.6cm, 64.1mm in Kapyung site, 265.05cm, 53.9mm in Kwangju site, and 174.7cm, 33.8mm in Youngdong site, respectively. Heritability estimates of height growth were higher than those of diameter growth across the sites. Estimates of family and individual tree heritability were 0.89, 0.47 in height growth, and 0.82, 0.30 in diameter one, respectively. When the top 10% of individuals of famililies were selected, the expected genetic gains for tree height and diameter were higher in the combined selecction than in another selection method. Therefore, it would be desirable to use the combined selection method for the advanced generation in Korean white pine.

      • 雪岳山地域의 天然生잣나무 群落構造에 關한 硏究

        This study was carried out to investigate the structural characteristics of Pinus koraiensis communities in Mt. Soelag. The appearance species in the communities of investigated stands were 84 taxa and varied according to the stand and layer. The important species of P. koraiensis communities were Quercus mongolica, Abies nephrolepis, and Acer pseudo-sieboldianum in tree layer (T_(12)), and Rhododendron mucronulatum, R. schlippenbachii, Q. mongolica and A. pseudo-sieboldianum in the shrub layer, Carex humilis, Melampyrurn roseum, Spodiopogon cotulifer, R. mucronulatum, Vaccinium koreanum, and R. schlippelabachii in herb layer. The life form spectrum was Ph-D_(4)·R_(5)·e type. The tree heights of P. koraiensis ranged from 2.0 to 23.0m and the average was 7.2±0.2m, and the C.V. was 27.0%. The distribution of height classes showed the inverted-J-shaped curve, however, in the stand Ⅷ, pure population composed of only P. koraiensis, approached a bell-shaped curve. The diameters (DBH) ranged from 2.2 to 58.3cm, and the mean was 17.7±0.2㎝, and their distribution showed a bell-shaped curve which was skewed to the left. The range of tree age was from 21 to 594 year-old, and the average 123.9±3.2 year-old. Tree height, diameter, and age were effected by the location of the communities. The relative basal area (RBA) of P. koraiensis to that of all the species of the communities was 67.1%. Species diversities, evenness indics and Simpson's indics varied with stands and layers. In the tree layer, similarity indics and distances between stands ranged from 12.5 to 66.5% and from 33.3 to 87.5% respectively.

        The degree of infestation varied with the difference of density and coverage of pine tree, and then the highest degree of infestation appeared at about 2500 individuals per ha in density and 40-60% in coverage, but the degree of infestation decreased if it was lower or higher than the above range.

      • 잣나무 풍매차대검정림의 가계별·지역별 생장과 수분생리 특성에 관한 연구

        경기도 가평지역과 충청북도 영동지역에 조림된 동일한 모수를 가진 동일한 25개가계의 차대검정림에 대한 생장과 수분생리와의 관계를 살펴보면, 두 지역에서 생장이 가장 우수한 20번가계는 가평지역의 생장이 영동지역보다 ㏊당 약 80.92㎥ 정도 많은 영양생장을 보였으며, 생장이 가장 불량한 3번가계에서도 가평지역에서 ㏊당 약 27.99㎥ 많은 생장을 보였다. 또한 초기 원형질분리점(π_0)에서는 20번가계, 3번가계 모두 영동지역이 가평지역보다 낮은 Water Potential을 나타내고 있는데, 이것은 동일한 유전력을 지닌 가계에서도 조림지역의 환경에 따라 Water Potential의 차이가 생기며, 이에 따라 생장에도 차이가 나타나는 것으로 사료된다. 즉 수분조건이 양호한 가평지역에서는 그 만큼 수분 스트레스를 적게 받아 생장도 양호하게 나타났다고 할 수 있다. 앞으로 수분조건에 큰 영향을 주는 인자인 토양에 대한 연구가 함께 이루어져 잣나무 적지적수 판단에 기초자료가 될 수 있을 것으로 생각된다. This study was conducted to reveal the characteristics of the growth by locality for Korean White Pine planted in Kapyung Kyunggi-Do and Youngdong, Choongchunbuk-Do. The effects of water potential on the growth were also analyzed. For this, local site quality was first evaluated and several stand variables such as number of trees survived, mean DBH, mean height, basal area per hectare, and volume per hectare by stand age were measured and summarized for each locality. Family No. 20 showed excellent growth in two sites and at Kapyung a more volume about 80.92m^(3)/㏊ than at Youngdong Family No. 3 showed poor growth and at Kapyung a more volume about 27.99m^(3)/㏊. Also at incipient plasmolysis (π_(0)) showed families No. 20 and No. 3 at Kapyung a lower water potential that at Youngdong. In the family which has same heritability, the growth is considered to be different because of different water potential by local climatic conditions. From this in Kapyung site which has good moisture condition and power water stress, the growth of white pine showed good.

      • 잣나무의 子葉數 및 子葉長의 變異와 遺傳力에 關한 硏究

        This study was carried out to investigate the variation and heritability of cotyledon with 120 half-sib families of Korean White Pine sampled from 7(A-G) different plots. Family was a significant source of variation(1% level) for the number and length of cotyledons. Number of cotyledons with family ranged from 5 to 18, and averaged 11.91±0.35. The CV value and contribution rate were 13.40% and 11.25%, respectively. Family means of length of cotyledons ranged from 21.6 to 69.3mm. CV=9.51%, and averaged 47.12±0.98mm. The contribution rate of family to cotyledon length variance was 26.47%. Family within site was a significant source of variation(1% level) in both two cotyledon characteristics. Site was a significant source of variation(1% level) in the number and length of cotyledon traits, however, contribution rate was low level of 1.28%, 0.95% respectively for number and length of cotyledons. Replication has no effects in the two traits. There was no significant relationship between number and length of cotyledon. Individual tree and family heritability for cotyledon number were 0.45 and 0.72 respectively those for cotyledon length were higher(h^2_I=1.07, h^2_F=0.88) than the former trait.

        In the seedling grown under different light internsities for two years at seed bed, length of needle, density of serration, number of stomata and stomatal zone, and number of endodermal call in needle varied with relative light intensity except number of secretory cell. And the leaf characters were influenced by the light intensity in contribution rates from 18.4% to 34.3%. Positive correlation between the growth and weight of seedlings and the leaf characters were recognized. But there were no significant correlations between the growth of seedling and number of serration, and between the weight of seedling and density of stomata and serration.

        15 families of open pollinated progeny of Pinus koraierisis were investigated to estimate the heritabilities for needle length, width, and number of serration. In the needle length and width, the significant differences were found between families, and between sites, as well as recognized that the needle length and width of 6-year-old seedlings were larger than those of 5-year-old seedlings. In needle length, single tree and family heritabilities were h^(2)_(I) = 0.12, h^(2)_(F) =0.71 and h^(2)_(F)= 0.08, h^(2)_(I) = 0.71, in 5-and 6-year-old seedlings, respectively. Heritabilities for needle width were estimated as h^(2)_(I)=0. 09, h^(2)_(F)=0. 55 in 5-year-old and h^(2)_(I)=0. 02. h^(2)_(F) =0. 22 in 6-year-old seedlings. Heritabili- ties estimated for numated of serration in 5-and 6-year-old seedlings were h^(2)_(I) =0. 09 h^(2)_(F)=0. 88, and h^(2)_(I) =0. 19 h^(2)_(F) =0. 84, respectively.

        This study was carried out to investigate the variation and heritability for tree height and diameter growth of 15-year-old progenies of Korean white pine in Kwang-Ju. The results can be summarized as follows: 1. Family, block, and family × block interaction were significant sources of variation for tree height and diameter growth. 2. Average values were 462.81±2.48㎝ in height and 89.40±0.63㎜ in diameter all over the 20 families. 3. No. 20 family showed excellent growth of 539.09㎝ in mean height, 103.7㎜ in mean diameter, respectively. 4. Individual-tree and family heritabilities were estimated 0.48 and 0.73 for height growth, and 0.37 and 0.68 for diameter growth, respectively. 5. When the top of 10% of individuals or families were selected, the expected genetic gains for tree height and diameter were higher in the combined selection than in another selection method.
