Simulation of Tempcore Process for 500 MPa Steel Bars

        Sally Hosny,Mohamed A.‑H. Gepreel,Mona G. Ibrahim,Ahmed R. Bassuony 대한금속·재료학회 2021 METALS AND MATERIALS International Vol.27 No.9

Tempcore process is an environmental friendly, simple and energy efficient technology for producing high strength reinforcingsteel rebars without requiring costly alloying addition. The mechanical properties of Tempcore treated steel rebarhave been previously investigated using various models, although they are still restricted to specific steel compositions, bar sizes, and/or process parameters. In this study, a methodology is developed to predict the internal microstructure andoverall mechanical properties (i.e., hardness, ultimate tensile strength, and yield strength) of Tempcore treated bars for anysteel compositions, bar sizes, process parameters, and simulation assumptions. Three sequential models are proposed: (1)thermal model to predict thermal profiles of bars using computational fluid dynamics CFD simulation, (2) metallurgicalmodel to estimate the internal microstructure change across the bar section using both; the JMatPro® and a derived equationthat calculates the martensite volume fraction (Vm%) of a functionally graded steel bar, and (3) Regression models basedon the rule of mixture to predict mechanical properties. The validation results show a good agreement between calculatedand experimental results; the mean absolute percentage errors are 2.8% for hardness, 2.8% for ultimate stress and 3.8% foryield stress. Eventually, the proposed methodology presented a sustainable, easy, fast, and cost-efficient solution to attainthe required mechanical properties of a steel bar treated by Tempcore process.

      • Making a Difference with Qualitative Inquiry

Sally Thorne 한국간호과학회 2018 한국간호과학회 학술대회 Vol.2018 No.1

Since nurses first began taking up qualitative research methods as a way of engaging with certain forms of knowledge relevant to their practice, they have struggled with how to follow methodological guidelines originally developed for the purpose of social science theorizing while simultaneously producing knowledge that will have relevance demonstrable relevance for the work of the discipline. Over time, the qualitative methodology conversation has become increasingly intertwined with the philosophical debates within nursing thought, including the relationship between knowledge of the general and that which pertains to the particular, the standardizing forces of an evidence-based care agenda, the nature of nursing’s distinctive epistemological position on matters of health and health care, and the moral implications of a social justice mandate. In this presentation, I describe newer options available to our profession in the form of qualitative research design options that offer the “look and feel” of a legitimate nursing inquiry process. These newer applied approaches allow us to integrate our disciplinary intelligence and insight into the kinds of research questions we generate, guide us to determine study samples and data construction approaches that reflect the nature and diversity of the phenomena we wish to study, allow for critical, cross comparative, and deep interpretive analysis at a level reflective of a solid grounding in the body of knowledge available to the discipline, and steer us toward articulating findings of a nature that can “speak” to the intended audience with disciplinary relevance and epistemological authority. In keeping with the nursing discipline’s deep commitment to knowledge that is “of use” to the profession, knowledge translation is therefore integrated into study design from the outset, such that the user community becomes an inherent stakeholder in the interpretive engagement of ideas throughout the entire process. Qualitative research designed to align with the logic of the nursing discipline lends itself to a wide range of study forms, from the largescale formal inquiries that can enter such dimensions as patient perspective and human subjectivity into the evidence dialogue within a field to the smaller practice based kinds of studies in which teams of nurses build sensitivity, understanding and insight around the complexities of the clinical phenomena they encounter. As we continue to build our disciplinary sophistication around how we can know good qualitative research when we see it, and gain confidence in designing the kinds of qualitative studies that will be best suited to answering the questions our profession most urgently needs to ask, we will be well positioned to play a leadership role in the evolving evidence-based practice discourse, thereby ensuring that patient voices and the capacity to individualize care remain into the future a hallmark of what our nursing profession stands for.

      • Revisiting Universality: Recognizing the Core Ideas Underlying Nursing Care and Leadership Excellence

Sally Thorne 한국간호과학회 2018 한국간호과학회 학술대회 Vol.2018 No.1

The idea of universality orients thought leaders in the nursing profession to consider the deeply held core values that nursing holds about people in general and those we serve. Nursing has a long history of leadership in matters of social justice, focusing on equity issues within society and ensuring to the extent we are able that the conditions exist for optimizing respect and dignity, even among society’s most vulnerable and marginalized populations. As the complexity and challenge of health care system development increases, our profession is further challenged by such imperatives as evidence-based practice, which brings with it a standardizing agenda that can compromise our capacity to serve those members of our society whose health needs depart from the norm, or who encounter complex biomedical and socioeconomic conditions. In this presentation, I consider some of the dominant threads throughout our profession’s history that have characterized what one might consider a universal nursing ethos. Despite quite differing cultural, regulatory, and political influences upon nursing practice across our various nations, a coherent ideational structure has allowed nursing to flourish and evolve, to adapt to the complexities of our changing conditions and systems, without losing sight of those core values. I conclude the presentation with reflections on how nursing organizations working in international collaboration together can powerfully contribute to the collective force that our profession represents in the direction of a more just, humane, and healthy society.

Acromioclavicular Septic Arthritis and Sternoclavicular Septic Arthritis with Contiguous Pyomyositis

        Sally A. Corey,William A. Agger,Andrew T. Saterbak 대한정형외과학회 2015 Clinics in Orthopedic Surgery Vol.7 No.1

Acromioclavicular (AC) and sternoclavicular (SC) septic arthritis with contiguous pyomyositis are rare, especially in immunocompetentindividuals. We report a case of septic AC joint with pyomyositis of the deltoid and supraspinatus muscles and a separatecase with septic SC joint with pyomysitis of the sternocleidomastoid muscle. Both patients had similar presentations of infectionswith Staphylococcus aureus and were successfully treated with surgical incision and drainage followed by prolonged antibiotictherapy.

Evaluation of mesial root canal configuration of mandibular first molars using micro-computed tomography

Salli, Gulay Altan,Egil, Edibe Korean Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology 2021 Imaging Science in Dentistry Vol.51 No.-

Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate the root canal morphology of mesial roots of mandibular first molars. Materials and Methods: Forty extracted mandibular first molars were used in this study. The morphological examination of root canals was conducted in accordance with the Vertucci classification using micro-computed tomography (micro-CT). Any aberrant root canal configurations not included in the Vertucci classification were recorded, and their frequency was established using descriptive statistics. Intra-observer reliability was assessed using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test, while inter-observer reliability was assessed using the Cohen kappa test. Significance was evaluated at the P<0.05 level. Results: The mesial roots of mandibular first molars had canal configurations of type I (15%), type II (7.5%), type III (25%), type IV (10%), type V (2.5%), type VI (7.5%), and type VII (7.5%). The images showed 10 (25%) additional configuration types that were not included in the Vertucci classification. These types were 1-3-2-3, 1-2-3-2-3, 2-3-1, 2-3, 1-2-3-1, 2-1-2-3, 3-2-1, 1-2-3-1, 2-3-2-3, and 1-2-1-2-1. The intra-observer differences were not statistically significant(P>0.05) and the kappa value for inter-observer agreement was found to be 0.957. Conclusion: Frequent variations were detected in mesial roots of mandibular first molars. Clinicians should take into consideration the complex structure of the root canal morphology before commencing root canal treatment procedures to prevent iatrogenic complications. Micro-CT was a highly suitable method to provide accurate 3-dimensional visualizations of root canal morphology.

      • Leaving a Spiritual Legacy for the Family in Mongolia: Starting from Scratch

( Sally Lam Phoon ),( Chek Yat Phoon ) 삼육대학교 선교와사회문제연구소 2015 Asia-Africa Journal of Mission and Ministry(AAMM) Vol.12 No.-

Mongolia has experienced drastic economic and political changes within the last century that has shaped the current mindsets of the city dwellers, Mongolia Mission’s audience for evangelism. In 1992, when the country was going through a most turbulent time with high unemployment and a lack of food, three Adventist Mission Frontier missionaries began the work. Their diligence resulted in the official registration of the church in 1997, with a chartered membership of 16 members in October. From these humble beginnings, the church has grown to 2,013 members by the end of 2014. In 2005, the Family Ministries Department was officially formed and this paper will document the attempts of the Mongolian Church and the Northern Asia-Pacific Division to strengthen family ministries in Mongolia where the pastors had no idea about family in the first place. It has been an interesting journey over the past 10 years, working with the pastors and lay leaders on a Biblical understanding of family, and what it means to pass on our spiritual legacy to the next generation and generations to come so that the mission of the church can be sustained and carried on till Jesus comes. After all, as Ellen White emphasized, the Christian family is the light to the world.

      • Talent development in women who achieve eminence

Sally M. Reis 한국교육개발원 2006 KEDI Journal of Educational Policy Vol.3 No.2

Research on women who have achieved eminence in a variety of domains illustrates that no one path results in success. Some eminent women marry and have children while others do not. Some work and live with energy and passion and speed; others move more calmly through the world and achieve at similar or even higher levels. The current chapter draws from two decades of research pertaining to the lives of women who have successfully overcome challenges and obstacles that have been found to interrupt or derail high achievement in women. In this chapter, a new theory of female talent development is offered and other issues are explored, including the spheres in which women express their talents, factors that may promote or inhibit the development of gifts, and gender differences in experiences that contribute to the unique nature of female achievement.
