        Determinants of the Demand for Credit Facilities: Evidence from the Banking Sector in Jordan for the Period 2012-2021

        The study aimed to study the effect of the inflation rate, the real domestic product, the interbank lending interest rate, and the total deposits on credit facilities in Jordan for 2012−2021 through quarterly data. The study adopted the ARDL model. The study used the time series analysis method, as the study tests the stationarity of the time series. The results showed that the impact of inflation on the total credit facilities was negative. In contrast, the impact of each of the total deposits, real GDP, and the interest rate of interbank loans on the total credit facilities was positive and significant. The study recommended the need for the banking sector in Jordan to develop risk management mechanisms in a way that allows it to adapt to economic cycles and crises by conducting stress tests and developing scenarios that ensure the formation of sufficient provisions to meet emergencies. The study also recommended that the macroeconomic policy should be based on creating a stable macroeconomic environment that allows the efficient employment of resources in all economic sectors in a way that achieves high economic growth rates, which contributes to the promotion of economic recovery and is reflected in income. Hence, individuals have a greater ability to repay loans.

        Development of low concentrated solar photovoltaic system with lead acid battery as storage device

        Energy storage system powered by renewable energies is a viable option to meet energy requirement without addition of carbon footprints to the environment. This study involves development of theoretical and computational models for a solar photovoltaic (PV) system coupled with a lead acid battery. The study commenced with selection of most appropriate lead acid battery and PV system for installation in a representative location in Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Various technical and economic parameters were assessed and calculated by computational approach. The optimized lead acid battery was integrated with low concentration solar PV panels (CPV) followed by a feasibility study. Theoretical model was developed for the integrated system to calculate various parameters of the CPV and lead acid battery. Technical and economic assessment of this coupled unit was calculated using a theoretical approach. The developed model was then subjected to computational approach for verification and validation analysis of the integrated system. The detailed assessment of batteries and integrated system show the applicability of this system in Riyadh region. The research will be extended to develop energy storage systems for remote areas using lead acid batteries.

        Non-linear Co-integration between Nominal Interest Rates and Inflation: An Examination of the Fisher Hypothesis for Asian Countries

        This paper examines the long-run relationship between nominal interest rates and inflation for a group of Asian countries over the period February 1973April 2007. We argue that the empirical failure to find evidence supporting the Fisher effect in previous studies may be attributed to the presence of non-linearities in the long-run relationship between nominal interest rates and inflation.We present evidence that the Fisher relation contains significant logistic smooth transition autoregression (LSTAR)-type non-linearity. This type of non-linearity is consistent with inflation targeting and the opportunistic behavior of policy-makers. Applying a non-linear unit root test to the residuals obtained from the Fisher relation decisively rejects the null hypothesis of a unit root against the alternative of non-linear but globally stationary in all the cases.

        Identifying Cylinder Liner Wear using Precise Coordinate Measurements

        This paper aims at exploiting the accurate precise measurements of CMM machine in exploring and investigating the wear happening between contacting solid surfaces. For instance, excessive wear, if detected by the CMM measurements, in a cylinder bore of an internal combustion engine can dramatically affect its performance quality, sealing function, scheme of lubrication, and eventually its service life span. In such case, the finger print would be the original design GD&T tolerances. Widely spread availability of CMM machines at a reasonable cost may make the applicability of this novel technique of wear detection feasible. In this work, precise and accurate measurements of deviations in roundness, straightness, and concentricity in a cylinder bore of an air cooled Automotive Diesel Engine dismantled for an overhaul using a CMM machine have been executed and analyzed to validate this technique. Thus, the results have been presented, discussed, analyzed and interpreted in order to evaluate the status of the engine during operation. Locations of remarkable deviations representing aggressive wear happenings in the cylinder bore are detected and investigated. The measurements, within the limits of uncertainty attributes, could reflect the performance quality of the engine, the suitability of the applied scheduled maintenance plan, and may also point at possible adverse operating conditions contributed to this wear. In the light of the findings, recommendations may thus be drawn and offered to the engine designer to improve his design. For instance, surface treatments and coatings could be preferably changed, or an innovative constructional modification may be suggested to homogenize the wear occurrence in the cylinder bore during operation. This may extend the operating life span of the cylinder and in turn reduces the maintenance expenses. This novel technique for the wear development recalling proved to be successful and reliable tool to diagnose the root causes of the wear aggression occurrence.

        Analytic extensions of $M$-hyponormal operators

        In this paper, we introduce the class of analytic extensions of $M$-hyponormal operators and we study various properties of this class. We also use a special Sobolev space to show that every analytic extension of an $M$-hyponormal operator $T$ is subscalar of order $2k+2$. Finally we obtain that an analytic extension of an $M$-hyponormal operator satisfies Weyl's theorem.

        Experimentally validated analytical modeling of diesel exhaust HC emission rate

        Supercharged diesel engines are a key source of hazardous regulated emissions that have been extensively modelled, yet without explainablemathematical trends. The present paper demonstrates the analytical modeling of the percentage of unburned Hydrocarbon andthe HC emission rate in four-stroke diesel engines for trucks. The study presents as well the analytical modeling of the supercharged airdensity. A sensitivity analysis has been conducted on these developed models. The study shows that the average percentage of deviationof the simulated results from the corresponding freeway cycles field data on the percentage of unburned Hydrocarbon and the HC emissionrate is 10.6% and 4%, respectively. The corresponding coefficient of determination is 70% and 83%, respectively. The relative errorof the developed models of the percentage of unburned Hydrocarbon and the HC emission rate is 10.6% and 2%, respectively. The studydemonstrates with 99% coefficient of determination that the average percentage of deviation of the simulated results from the correspondingfield data under the steady speed operating condition for all freeway cycles on the supercharged air density is 3.7%. The relativeerror of the developed model of the supercharged air density is 4%. These values of relative error are in an order of magnitude ofdeviation that is less than that of widely recognized models in the field of vehicle powertrain modeling, such as the CMEM. These developedanalytical models serve as widely valid models that follow entirely from the principles of physics and the results of these developedmodels have explainable mathematical trends. The fact that these developed models are dimensionally correct further supports the validityof these models. The present models can help in better analyzing the performance of diesel engines and in developing and assessingthe performance of these engines.

        Effect of fibers and welded-wire reinforcements on the diaphragm behavior of composite deck slabs

        Twelve large-scale composite deck slabs were instrumented and tested in a cantilever diaphragm configuration to assess the effect of fibers and welded wire mesh (WWM) on the in-plane shear capacity of composite deck slabs. The slabs were constructed with reentrant decking profile and reinforced with different types and dosages of secondary reinforcements: Conventional welded wire mesh (A142 and A98); synthetic macro-fibers (dosages of 3 kg/m<sup>3</sup> and 5.3 kg/m<sup>3</sup>); and hooked-end steel fibers with a dosage of 15 kg/m<sup>3</sup>. The deck orientation relative to the main beam (strong and weak) was also considered in this study. Fibers and WWM were found efficient in distributing the applied load to the whole matrix, inducing multiple cracking, thereby enhancing the strength and ductility of composite deck slabs. The test results indicate that fibers increased the slab’s ultimate in-plane shear capacity by up to 29% and 50% in the strong and weak directions, respectively. WWM increased the ultimate in-plane shear capacity by up to 19% in the strong direction and 9% in the weak direction. The results suggest that discrete fibers can provide comparable diaphragm behavior as that with the conventional WWM.

        Forced transverse vibration of composite sandwich beam with magnetorheological elastomer core

        We studied, experimentally and numerically, the vibrational response of a magnetorheological elastomer sandwich beam, clampedfree,delimited by two skins aluminum 7075T6, first subjected to a variable magnetic field perpendicular to the skin of the beam, andsecond to a harmonic excitation by magnetic force applied at the free end. Our main objective was to predict the effect of the intensity ofthe current flowing through a coil on several dynamic factors. The maximum amplitude of resonance and the variation of the loss factoras a function of structural stiffness are adjusted simultaneously by the application of different magnetic fields. The results of bothmethods are compared.
