        Application of stereological methods for unbiased estimation of sperm morphology in the mice induced by busulfan

        Busulfan is an anticancer drug, which causes the apoptosis germ cells and azoospermia in humans and animals. Abnormal morphology of spermatozoa related to the male infertility. The sperm morphology is evaluation of sperm size, shape and appearance characteristics should be assessed by carefully observing a stained sperm sample under the microscope. Evaluation of sperm morphology has been considered as one of the most important factors for a successful fertilization and determining sperm quality. The mice were assigned to tow experimental groups: control and busulfan. Each group included six mice that were housed under standard conditions. The volume was estimated using the nucleator method. The sperm’s flegellum and mid-piece length was estimated by counting the number of intersections between the tails and Merz grid test line in an unbiased counting frame, superimposed on live images of sperms. Our results demonstrated a significant different in the volume and surface of the sperm’s head and the length of the sperm’s flagellum in the control and busulfan groups. Busulfan can effect on the volume of the sperm’s head and the length of the sperm’s flagellum in rat.

      • A Comparative Study between Iranian and Japanese Students` Conceptions of “Ideal English Lesson”

        With the shift in language teaching towards a more learner-centered approach, there is now an emphasis on considering learners` views on what goes on in the classroom. Involving learners in selecting and evaluating classroom activities as well as listening to their voices and preferences can be helpful for teachers in planning lesson and designing materials. With this idea in mind, the present study focuses on the tertiary students` perceptions of ``ideal English lesson`` in Iran and Japan. 115 Iranian students completed a questionnaire designed by Littlewood (2010). The results were compared with the Littlewood`s (2010) study with Japanese students as well as students from three Asian countries (Hong Kong, Singapore, and Mainland China). The findings show that for Iranian students non-communicative activities were regarded as an ``ideal English lesson``. Japanese students expressed generally more conservative preferences than their counterparts in Iran and the three other Asian countries. The results suggest that learners` beliefs about language learning, proficiency level, and future needs may affect their current preferred classroom activities. Implications for lesson planning and curriculum development are also discussed in this paper.

        New MOF-Based Corrosion Inhibitor for Carbon Steel in Acidic Media

        In this research, we present a novel class of metal–organic framework-based corrosion inhibitor materials named as zeoliticimidazolate framework-8@{Mo132} (ZIF-8@{Mo132}) nano-structure as an efficient and green inhibitor in HCl solution. Tothis purpose, ZIF-8@{Mo132} nano-structure is prepared via a convenient and excellent interaction of {Mo132} and ZIF-8surface using a versatile recipe. Afterward, the application of the mentioned organometallic nano-structure as a corrosioninhibitor for carbon steel in HCl solution was evaluated and was compared with pristine ZIF-8 performance. In this sense,surface observation, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and polarization resistance were applied to study inhibitoryaction of both ZIF-8 and ZIF-8@{Mo132}. Full factorial design of the experiments was also implemented to investigate thereal operating variables including inhibitor concentration, immersion time and temperature affecting the inhibition efficiency(%IE). The obtained ANOVA analyses indicated that temperature is not very significant and effective parameter on inhibitionefficiency for both inhibitors. On the other hand, the thermodynamic study revealed that chemisorption occurs duringZIF-8@{Mo132} adsorption on the metal surface due to the high tendency of anionic ZIF-8@{Mo132} inhibitor to absorbover steel surface. This observation was also confirmed by AFM and SEM images taken from the steel surface. It is alsofound that ZIF-8@{Mo132} nano-structure demonstrated high activity as an effective corrosion inhibitor in HCl solution.

        Evaluation of the Protective Effect of Citral, Silymarin, and Thymoquinone on Methotrexate-Induced Lung Injury in Rats

        Objectives: Several studies have reported that methotrexate is an anti-cancer and immunosuppressive drug leading to lung injury. Therefore, the present study aimed to investigate the protective effects of silymarin, citral, and thymoquinone on methotrexate-induced pulmonary toxicity. Methods: Forty-eight rats were divided into six groups, including healthy, Methotrexate, and drug carrier control groups and silymarin, citral, and thymoquinone treatment groups. At the end of the experiment, the studied rats were anesthetized and sacrificed by CO 2 . Lung tissue samples were isolated to measure the antioxidant activity and histopathological evaluation. Results: In the thymoquinone treatment group, the concentration of total antioxidant capacity and Malondialdehyde increased and decreased significantly, respectively, compared to the methotrexate group. The histopathological evaluation of the lung of the methotrexate group showed hemorrhage and congestion, the nodule-like accumulation of mononuclear inflammatory lymphocytes around the blood vessel, a small number of neutrophils around the blood vessel, and the inflammatory cells around the small vessels. However, no significant pathological alterations were observed in the treatment groups, especially the thymoquinone treatment group. Conclusion: Thymoquinone has the greatest protective effect on methotrexate-induced lung injury, probably due to its antioxidant effect.

        Fishery-induced Inter-annual Changes in the Mean Trophic Level, the Northern Sea of Oman off the Iranian Coast, 2002-2011

        Ecosystem-based management is one of the most important approaches that may lead to reducing the impacts of fishing on ecosystems. In this context, we have assessed the impact of Iranian coastal fishing (using landing data of 49 exploited species) on the ecosystem of the North Sea of Oman (Sistan and Baluchestan Province), during the last decade (2002-2011), with emphasis on testing the occurrence of the “fishing down? phenomenon. The Mean Trophic Level (MTL) and Fishing-in-Balance (FiB) index are two indicators that we used for analysis. The data indicated that the increased total landings in this region might be related to the exploitation of marine fishery resources especially with regard to large pelagic fish. Over the past decade, moderate decreasing trends in MTL and an increasing trend in the FiB-index were observed. In this regard, an upward trend in the spatial expansion factor and also a downward trend in the piscivory index and in Primary Production Required (PPR) in the time period could all indicate a spatial expansion toward deep waters, the catching of the large pelagic piscivorous species, such as tuna, and a sign of fishing pressures on the ecosystem. The results suggest a range of fishery exploitation patterns throughout the food web but it seems that these patterns are not a consequence of ?fishing down?. We suggest that the monitoring research be continued in this region and these indicators should be used to make fisheries management decisions and to prevent the continuance of this trend in future.

        Reviews Key Features of Word-Of-Mouth (WOM) Advertising and Their Impact on Sports Consumer

        Purpose: This study sought to investigate the critical features of Word of mouth (WOM) advertising and their impact on sport consumer behavior. Research design, data, and methodology: Target population of the study consisted of all sports consumer of the Federation of Special Patients and Organ Transplantation, Tehran (Iran), who had indirectly watched the World Organ Transplant Competition documentary at least once on others' advice. For this purpose, 360 sports consumers of the federation were purposefully selected and they were asked to complete the standard WOM advertising questionnaire of Asda and Ko. Pearson correlation coefficient test and modeling of structural equations were performed using Spss24 and Smart PLS software at an error level of 0.05 used to analyze the data. Results: The findings show that there is a significant relationship between experience and expertise, trust and validity, content richness, and the power of message transmission through WOM advertising and its predictability. Finally, interpersonal relationships and work involvement also had a moderating role in this regard. Conclusions: The general conclusion is that the components of WOM advertising as well as involvement and homophily with the mediating role directly as one of the presuppositions for persuasion. The sports consumer was promoting WOM.

        Improved antifouling and self-cleaning ability of PVDF ultrafiltration membrane grafted with polymer brushes for oily water treatment

        This study focuses on the modification of commercial polyvinylidenefluoride (PVDF) membranes usingsurface-initiated atom transfer radical polymerization (SI-ATRP) method. Poly(N-isopropylacrylamide)(PNIPAAm) was grafted from PVDF surface and then PEGMA was grafted onto the PVDF-g-PNIPAAmmembrane. The aim of the research was to prepare membranes that simultaneously have antifouling andself-cleaning properties. PNIPAAm (lower block) was grafted to give the membrane temperaturesensitive property and PPEGMA (upper block) was used to improve hydrophilicity. Morphology,topography and chemical composition of the modified membranes were completely characterized. Antifouling and cleaning ability of modified membranes were investigated using synthetic oily water. Moreover, the role of PEGMA polymerization time on the membrane performance was examined. PNIPAAm-b-PPEGMA modified membrane achieved 64% decrease in fouling ratio compared tounmodified PVDF membrane at best condition. Theflux recovery was 99.1% for modified membraneat this condition. Furthermore, the unmodified PVDF membrane showed 91.1% oil rejection; while themodified membrane could reject 98.2% oil molecules. Thefinalflux of all modified membranes werehigher than unmodified membrane. These results indicated that PNIPAAm-b-PPEGMA modifiedmembranes have excellent fouling resistance and self-cleaning ability.

      • Antiproliferative Effects of Crocin in HepG2 Cells by Telomerase Inhibition and hTERT Down-Regulation

        Crocin, the main pigment of Crocus sativus L., has been shown to have antiproliferative effects on cancer cells, but the involved mechanisms are only poor understood. This study focused on probable effect of crocin on the immortality of hepatic cancer cells. Cytotoxicity of crocin ($IC_{50}$ 3 mg/ml) in hepatocarcinoma HepG2 cells was determined after 48 h by neutral red uptake assay and MTT test. Immortality was investigated through quantification of relative telomerase activity with a quantitative real-time PCR-based telomerase repeat amplification protocol (qTRAP). Telomerase activity in 0.5 ${\mu}g$ protein extract of HepG2 cells treated with 3 mg/ml crocin was reduced to about 51% as compared to untreated control cells. Two mechanisms of inhibition, i.e. interaction of crocin with telomeric quadruplex sequences and down regulation of hTERT expression, were examined using FRET analysis to measure melting temperature of a synthetic telomeric oligonucleotide in the presence of crocin and quantitative real-time RT-PCR, respectively. No significant changes were observed in the $T_m$ telomeric oligonucleotides, while the relative expression level of the catalytic subunit of telomerase (hTERT) gene showed a 60% decrease as compared to untreated control cells. In conclusion, telomerase activity of HepG2 cells decreases after treatment with crocin, which is probably caused by down-regulation of the expression of the catalytic subunit of the enzyme.

        New volume comparison with almost Ricci soliton

        In this paper we consider a condition on the Ricci curvature involving vector fields which enabled us to achieve new results for volume comparison and Laplacian comparison. These results in special case obtained with considering volume non-collapsing condition. Also, by applying this condition we get new results of volume comparison for almost Ricci solitons.
