        Magnetic Properties of La3+-ion-doped Polycrystalline Z-type Hexaferrite Powders Synthesized via the Co-precipitation Method

        Co2Z-type hexagonal ferrite powders doped with La3+ ions (Ba3−XLaxCo2Fe24O41 where x =0.0, 0.05, 0.10 and 0.15) were prepared using a co-precipitation method. The results revealed thatsingle-phase Co2Z-type ferrite was formed from the precipitated precursor in the presence of sodiumdodecyl sulfate (SDS) as an anionic surfactant. The obtained precursor was preheated at 600 ℃ for4 h then post annealed at 1300 ℃ for 6 h. The crystallite size increased with increasing of La3+-ion molar ratio. The microstructure of the formed powders appeared to be a hexagonal-plateletlikestructure. The DC resistivity of the obtained Co2Z decreased with increasing La3+ content. The saturation magnetization (Ms = 53.7 - 55.5 emu/g) was slightly increased with increasingsubstitution of La3+ ion. Moreover, two resonance frequency peaks were observed through theimaginary part of complex magnetic permeability; meanwhile, a decrease in the real part of thecomplex magnetic permeability was observed through the X-band frequencies.

        Comparative Study of Itraconazole-Cyclodextrin Inclusion Complex and Its Commercial Product

        Itraconazole (ITZ) solid complex using hydroxypropyl-β-cyclodextrin (ITZ-HP-β-CD) with 20% polyvinylpyrrolidone was prepared by a co-evaporation method. The complex improved antifungal activity against C. parapasilosis and C. albicans. The complex demonstrated good flow and compressibility characteristics. The complex was formulated as a capsule dosage form and drug release was evaluated. Capsules containing ITZ-HP-β-CD at a molar ratio of 1:3 with 20% polyvinylpyrrolidone have a faster dissolution rate than commercial capsules (Sporanox ®). About 88% of ITZ was released in less than 30 min and the initial dissolution rate exhibited a 3.5-fold increase compared to the commercial product. UV spectrophotometeric, HPLC, and antimicrobial methods were used to determine ITZ concentration in the release medium and the results obtained by these methods are reported. It was found that HPLC analysis is a suitable and reliable method for determination of the drug concentration with a coefficient of variation less than 10%. The intraday precision showed a coefficient of variation less than 3.96%, and that for interday was less than 4.99%. The HPLC method was more accurate and precise than the antimicrobial and UV-spectrophotometric methods for determination of ITZ concentration present in the release medium.

        Swertiamarin ameliorates inflammation and oxidative damage in autoimmune encephalomyelitis mouse model

        Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a degenerative autoimmune disease attacks the myelin sheath of the central nervous system (CNS) neurons causing different disabilities. According to recent evidence, the main bioactive component in Enicostema axillare , the Swrtiamarin (SM) has been found to exert anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activities against several diseases. However, SM activities in treatment of autoimmune diseases remain to be explored. Herein, we used a murine model of MS, to show that SM treatment ameliorates the severity of experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE). This occurs through reducing the levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines and infiltration of CD4+CD45+ cells into CNS. That was associated with a reduction in the expression of STAT3 and NFkB in CD4+ T cells under Th17 and LPS-stimulated macrophages. Furthermore, in silico studies revealed that SM interacts with NF-E2-related factor 2 (NRF2), and therefore, suppressed oxidative stress by inducing formation NRF2-antioxidant response element (ARE) complex. We found that SM is an agonist of NRF2 complex regulating the total CD4 population and antioxidant markers in EAE mice. Molecular docking analysis showed a stable and higher binding affinity between SM and NRF2. Results revealed that SM treatment increased the complex formation between ARE and NRF2 where immunoprecipitation methods showed a higher binding affinity of ARE to NRF2 in SM treated animals. Complex formation triggered ARE cascade of antioxidant gene clusters and reduces the MS pathological alterations in EAE mice model. Current data proposed SM as an effective biomolecule in treatment of MS and controlling neuronal damage through inhibiting oxidative stress markers and targeting NRF2.

        Thermal Hydraulic Analysis of Core Flow Bypass in a Typical Research Reactor

        The main objective of nuclear reactor safety is to maintain the nuclear fuel in a thermally safe conditionwith enough safety margins during normal operation and anticipated operational occurrences. In thisresearch, core flow bypass is studied under the conditions of the unavailability of safety systems. As corebypass occurs, the core flow rate is assumed to decrease exponentially with a time constant of 25 s tonew steady state values of 20, 40, 60, and 80% of the nominal core flow rate. The thermal hydraulic codePARET is used through these calculations. Reactor thermal hydraulic stability is reported for all cases ofcore flow bypass.

        Preemptive analgesic efficacy of ultrasound-guided transversalis fascia plane block in children undergoing inguinal herniorrhaphy: a randomized, double-blind, controlled study

        Background: Surgical repair of congenital inguinal hernia results in significant postoperative discomfort and pain. The aim of the current study was to evaluate the pre-emptive analgesic efficacy of a transversalis fascia plane (TFP) block after pediatric inguinal herniorrhaphy.Methods: Forty-four patients aged 12 to 60 months who underwent unilateral inguinal herniorrhaphy were enrolled. Four patients were excluded, and the remaining were allocated to the control group and the TFP block group. In the TFP block group, 0.4 mL/kg bupivacaine 0.25% was instilled in the plane between the transversus abdominis and transversalis fascia, while in the control group 0.9% saline was used instead of bupivacaine. The collected data were the total dose of paracetamol consumed during the first 12 h postoperatively, the postoperative Face, Leg, Activity, Cry, Consolability (FLACC) pain score, time to first use of rescue analgesia, number of patients required additional postoperative analgesics, and parents' satisfaction.Results: The median paracetamol consumption was significantly lower in the TFP block group than in the control group, and FLACC pain scores were significantly lower for all study times in the TFP block group with higher parental satisfaction scores than those for the control group. The number of patients who required additional analgesics was significantly lower in the TFP block group than in the control group. Conclusions: The use of a TFP block decreases postoperative analgesic consumption and postoperative pain intensity after pediatric inguinal herniorrhaphy. Future studies with larger sample size are required to evaluate the actual complications rate of TFP block.

        Transition Metal Complexes Derived From 2-hydroxy-4-(p-tolyldiazenyl)benzylidene)-2-(p-tolylamino)acetohydrazide Synthesis, Structural Characterization, and Biological Activities

        Mononuclear Cu(II), Ni(II), Co(II), Mn(II), Zn(II), Fe(III), Ru(III), and UO2(II) complexes of 2-hydroxy-4-(p-tolyldiazenyl)benzylidene)-2-(p-tolylamino)acetohydrazide (H2L) were prepared by direct method. The ligand and its complexes were isolated in solid state and characterized by analytical techniques such as elemental and thermal analyses, molar conductance, magnetic susceptibility measurements and spectroscopic techniques such as UV-Visible, IR, 1H-NMR and 13C-NMR. The spectral data indicated that the ligand acted as neutral/monobasic bidentate or monobasic/dibasic tridentate ligand bonded to the metal ions through the oxygen atom of ketonic or enolic carbonyl group, azomethine nitrogen atom and deprotonated/protonated phenolic oxygen atom forming either tetragonally distorted octahedral or octahedral. Antimicrobial activities of the ligand and its complexes were evaluated against Escherichia coli, Bacillus subtilis and Aspergillus niger by well diffusion method. The results of antifungal activity showed that the Fe(III) complex (10) exhibited higher antifungal against Aspergillus niger than the other complexes. However, the results of antibacterial activity revealed that Cu(II) complex (4) is the most active against Escherichia coli while the Cu(II) complex (5) and Fe(III) complex (10) exhibited higher antibacterial effect on Bacillus subtilis than the other complexes.
