The complexes [Pd(bpy)(Hex-dtc)]NO_3 and [Pt(bpy)(Hex-dtc)]NO_3 (bpy is 2,2'-bipyridine and Hex-dtc is hexyldithiocarbamato ligands) were synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis and spectroscopic studies. The cytotoxicity assay of the complexes has been performed on chronic myelogenous leukemia cell line, K562, at micromolar concentration. Both complexes showed cytotoxic activity far better than that of cisplatin under the same experimental conditions. The binding parameters of the complexes with calf thymus DNA (CT-DNA) was investigated using UV-visible and fluorescence techniques. They show the ability of cooperatively intercalating in CT-DNA. Gel filtration studies demonstrated that platinum complex could cleave the DNA. In the interaction studies between the Pd(II) and Pt(II) complexes with CT-DNA, several binding and thermodynamic parameters have been determined, which may provide deeper insights into the mechanism of action of these types of complexes with nucleic acids.

We report the preparation and characterization of a new and water soluble complex of palladium(II) with 1,10- phenanthroline and butyldithiocarbamate ligands. This compound has been studied through spectroscopic techniques, 1H NMR,IR, electronic spectra and elemental analysis and conductivity measurements. The complex shows 50% cytotoxic concentration (Ic50) value against chronic myelogenous leukemia cell line, K562, much lower than that of cisplatin. Thus the mode of binding of this complex to calf thymus DNA have been extensively investigated by isothermal titration UV-visible spectrophotometry, fluorescence, gel filteration and other methods. UV-visible studies show that the complex exhibits cooperative binding with DNA and remarkably denatures the DNA at extremely low concentration (~13μM). Fluorescence studies indicate that the complex intercalate into DNA. Gel filtration studies suggest that the binding of Pd(II) complex with DNA is strong enough that it does not readily break. In these interaction studies, several thermodynamic and binding parameters are also determined which may reflect the mechanism of action of this type of compound with DNA.

Time-dependent buckling analysis of SiO2 nanoparticles reinforced concrete columns exposed to fire

Time-dependent buckling of embedded straight concrete columns armed with Silicon dioxide(SiO2) nano-particles exposed to fire is investigated in the present study for the fire time. The column is simulated mathematically with Timoshenko beam model. The governing mass conservation equations to describe heat and moisture transport in concrete containing free water, water vapor, and dry air in conjunction with the conversion of energy are considered. The characteristics of the equivalent composite are determined using Mori-Tanaka approach. The foundation around the column is simulated with spring and shear layer. Employing nonlinear strains-displacements, energy methods and Hamilton\'s principal, the governing equations are derived. Differential quadrature method (DQM) is used in order to obtain the critical buckling load and critical buckling time of structure. The influences of volume percent of SiO2nano-particles, geometrical parameters, elastic foundation and concrete porosity are investigated on the time-dependent buckling behaviours of structure. Numerical results indicate that reinforcing the concrete column with SiO2nano-particles, the structure becomes stiffer and the critical buckling load and time increase.

WEIGHTED POSSIBILISTIC VARIANCE AND MOMENTS OF FUZZY NUMBERS

In this paper, a method to find the weighted possibilistic variance and moments about the mean value of fuzzy numbers via applying a difuzzification using minimizer of the weighted distance between two fuzzy numbers is introduced. In this way, we obtain the nearest weighted point with respect to a fuzzy number, this main result is a new and interesting alternative justification to define of weighted mean of a fuzzy number. Considering this point and the weighted distance quantity, we introduce the weighted possibilistic mean (WPM) value and the weighted possibilistic variance(WPV) of fuzzy numbers. This paper shows that WPM is the nearest weighted point to fuzzy number and the WPV of fuzzy number is preserved more properties of variance in probability theory so that it can simply introduce the possibilistic moments about the mean of fuzzy numbers without problem. The moments of fuzzy numbers play an important role to estimate of parameters, skewness, kurtosis in many of fuzzy times series models.

Bone tissue engineering is now used as an alternative for the treatment of bone-related diseases. In this study, chitosan-gelatin scaffold with olibanum microspheres containing dexamethasone has been produced by the freeze-drying method. SEM and FTIR were used to characterize the scaffolds synthesized. The rate of drug release from these scaffolds was measured by a UV spectrophotometer. The synthesized scaffold was measured in terms of the swelling and degradation rates. In vitro studies were conducted to evaluate bioactivity and the environmental compatibility of the scaffold with an MTT test. A good controlled release was achieved. The bioactivity analysis confirmed the formation of apatite. The results of the MTT test showed that the synthesized scaffold was biocompatible and had an appropriate interaction with the cell. The results showed that the produced scaffold had the properties necessary to regenerate and repair bones.
