The Local Economic Effects of Istanbul Fener-Balat Cultural Heritage Rehabilitation Program

        ( Sacit Hadi Akdede ),( Emre Can ) 한국재정정책학회 2010 財政政策論集 Vol.12 No.1

This paper investigates whether Fener-Balat Rehabilitation Program has significant economic effects for the region or not. We use percentage price change of the houses in the region and compare it with a similar region which was not subject to any rehabilitation program. We regress the price changes on the special features of the houses (number of the rooms, size, number of flats, restoration etc) in multiple regression by hedonic pricing method. It is found that restoration has a positive and significant effect on price changes of houses.

Impact of increased aspartate aminotransferase to alanine aminotransferase (De Ritis) ratio in prognosis of testicular cancer

        Sacit Nuri Gorgel,Yigit Akin,Esra Meltem Koc,Osman Kose,Serkan Ozcan,Yuksel Yilmaz 대한비뇨의학회 2019 Investigative and Clinical Urology Vol.60 No.3

Purpose: Imaging studies can show metastasis in testicular cancer (TCa); however, a test for risk of metastasis in TCa has not been described. The ratio of aspartate aminotransferase to alanine aminotransferase, also called the De Ritis ratio (DRR), is used for many other malignancies. We aimed to evaluate the association between preoperatively assessed DRR and prognosis in patients with TCa. Materials and Methods: One hundred twenty-eight patients with TCa were enrolled in a retrospective study between March 2007 and January 2017. Clinical, biochemical, and pathological data were recorded. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were used. The prognostic value of DRR and the threshold value were assessed by use of receiver operating characteristic curves. Significance was defined as p<0.05. Results: Mean follow-up was 37±9.7 months. There were 45 and 73 TCa patients with and without lymph node metastasis, respectively. Lung metastases and other solid organ metastases occurred in 14 and 4 patients, respectively. The optimal DRR threshold was 1.30 for both retroperitoneal lymph node involvement and metastasis. DRR was determined as an independent prognostic factor for retroperitoneal lymph node involvement and organ metastasis in univariate and multivariate analyses (p<0.001, p=0.006 and p=0.002, p=0.047, respectively). Conclusions: A preoperative DRR greater than 1.30 may be an independent risk factor for retroperitoneal lymph node involvement and organ metastases in patients with TCa.

      • Price Elasticity of Cinema and Theater: Addiction or Attendance in Turkish Cites?

Sacit Hadi Akedede 한국문화경제학회 2007 문화경제연구 Vol.10 No.1

This paper investigates to understand the difference between addiction and attendance, cinema, and theater attendance and calculates the demand elasticities of cinema and theater. It is found that cinema and theater attendance are both normal goods. Price elasticity of cinema attendance is higher that that of theater attendance in addition to the fact that theater attendance does not have a significant relationship with price variable. In terms of addiction to cinema, both past and lead consumptions have positive effects on current consumption. This confirms to a rational addition model. Cinema consumption in the longer run is more responsive to income changes

      • Diabetes is an Important Risk Factor for Metastasis in Non-Muscle-Invasive Bladder Cancer

Ozer, Kutan,Horsanali, Mustafa Ozan,Gorgel, Sacit Nuri,Ozbek, Emin Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2016 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.17 No.1

Background: Epidemiological evidence indicates that individuals with diabetes mellitus (DM) may have a modestly increased risk of bladder cancer. In the present study, we aimed to show any association between DM and risk of metastasis in patients with non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC). Materials and Methods: We retrospectively analyzed 698 patients between January 2007 and December 2014 who were diagnosed with and underwent transurethral resection of bladder tumors (TUR-BT). Comparisons of means was conducted by independent samples t test, and relations between categorical variables were investigated by non-parametric chi-square test. A p value of 0.05 was accepted as statistically significant in comparisons. Results: We analyzed 418 patients with non muscle invasive bladder cancer. 123 of whom were diabetic and 295 non-diabetic. In diabetic patients, 13 were N1 stage and 11 M1 stage. When compared with non diabetic patients that was statistically significant (p<0.001). TNM stages were more advanced in diabetic patients (p<0.001), but concurrent CIS (p=0.1) and squamous metaplasia did not significantly differ between diabetic and non-diabetic cases (p=1). Conclusions: Diabetic patients with non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer may suffer metastases earlier than expected although they are non invasive. Therefore such patients must be followed-up carefully and early cystectomy decision may be necessary. Further prospective studies with more patients are needed to confirm these findings.

Comparison of different bronchial closure techniques following pneumonectomy in dogs

        Hakan Salci,A. Sami Bayram,Ozgur Ozyigit,Cengiz Gebitekin,O. Sacit Gorgul 대한수의학회 2007 Journal of Veterinary Science Vol.8 No.4

The comparison of the histologic healing and bronchopleural fistula (BPF) complications encountered with three different BS closure techniques (manual suture, stapler and manual suture plus tissue flab) after pneumonectomy in dogs was investigated for a one-month period. The dogs were separated into two groups: group I (GI) (n = 9) and group II (GII) (n = 9). Right and left pneumonectomies were performed on the animals in GI and GII, respectively. Each group was further divided into three subgroups according to BS closure technique: subgroup I (SGI) (n = 3), manual suture; subgroup II (SGII) (n = 3), stapler; and subgroup III (SGIII) (n = 3), manual suture plus tissue flab. The dogs were sacrificed after one month of observation, and the bronchial stumps were removed for histological examination. The complications observed during a one-month period following pneumonectomy in nine dogs (n = 9) were: BPF (n = 5), peri-operative cardiac arrest (n = 1), post-operative respiratory arrest (n = 1), post-operative cardiac failure (n = 1) and cardio-pulmonary failure (n = 1). Histological healing was classified as complete or incomplete healing. Histological healing and BPF complications in the subgroups were analyzed statistically. There was no significant difference in histological healing between SGI and SGIII (p = 1.00; p > 0.05), nor between SGII and SGIII (p = 1.00; p > 0.05). Similarly, no significant difference was observed between the subgroups in terms of BPF (p = 0.945; p > 0.05). The results of the statistical analysis indicated that manual suture, stapler or manual suture plus tissue flab could be alternative methods for BS closure following pneumonectomy in dogs.

Contribution of the xenograft bone plate-screw system in lumbar transpedicular stabilization of dogs: an in-vitro study

        Hakan Salci,Sani Sarigul,Seref Dogan,Huseyin Lekesiz,Resat Ozcan,O. Sacit Gorgul,Kaya Aksoy 대한수의학회 2008 Journal of Veterinary Science Vol.9 No.2

We performed biomechanical comparison of a xenograft bone plate-screw (XBPS) system for achieving cadaveric lumbar transpedicular stabilization (TS) in dogs. Twenty dogs' cadaveric L2-4 lumbar specimens were harvested and their muscles were removed, but the discs and ligaments were left intact. These specimens were separated to four groups: the L2-4 intact group as control (group I, n = 5), the L3 laminectomy and bilateral facetectomy group (LBF) (group II, n = 5), the LBF plus TS with metal plate-screw group (group III, n = 5) and the LBF plus TS with XBPS group (group IV, n = 5). Five kinds of biomechanical tests were applied to the specimens: flexion, extension, left-right bending and rotation. The averages of the 16 stiffness values were calculated and then these were statistically analyzed. The statistical results show that the XBPS system contributes spinal stability and this system can be a good choice for achieving TS.
