Protective Effects of Sea Spaghetti-Enriched Restructured Pork Against Dietary Cholesterol: Effects on Arylesterase and Lipoprotein Profile and Composition of Growing Rats

        Adriana R. Schultz Moreira,Raúl Olivero-David,Miguel Vázquez-Velasco,Laura González-Torres,Juana Benedí,Sara Bastida,Francisco J. Sánchez-Muniz 한국식품영양과학회 2014 Journal of medicinal food Vol.17 No.8

There is a general assumption that seaweeds are hypocholesterolemics and antioxidants. However, controversial results suggest specific properties for each individual alga. This study aims to assess the effect of including Sea Spaghetti alga (S) in a restructured-pork (RP) diet, both enriched and not enriched with dietary cholesterol, on arylesterase (AE) activity and lipoprotein concentration and composition of Wistar rats. Four groups of 10 growing male Wistar rats were each fed a mix of 85% AIN-93M diet and 15% freeze-dried RP for 5 weeks. The control group (C) consumed control RP-C; the S group consumed RP-S with 5% seaweeds; the Chol-C group consumed the C diet but enriched with cholesterol (2.43%) and cholic acid (0.49%); the Chol-S group consumed the S diet but enriched with cholesterol and cholic acid. AE activity was five times higher (P < .01) in S compared with C rats, but three times lower in Chol-S compared with Chol-C rats (P < .01). The Chol-C diet induced hypercholesterolemia but reduced triglycerides (TG), giving rise to the presence of very low-density lipoprotein (VLDL) that was enriched in cholesterol. The Chol-S diet partially blocked (P < .001) the hypercholesterolemic induction of the Chol-C diet, and reduced TG levels (P < .05) with respect to S rats. The cholesterol supplementation increased total cholesterol, VLDL-cholesterol, and intermediate-density lipoprotein + LDL-cholesterol (IDL + LDL)-cholesterol (P < .001) in Chol-C rats, but the effect was lower in the Chol-S diet. In conclusion, RP-S increases the antioxidant capacity within a noncholesterol enriched diet while improving the lipoprotein profile within a cholesterol-enriched diet.

      • A taxonomic revision of <i>Allium</i> (Alliaceae) in the Canadian prairie provinces

        Choi, Hyeok Jae,Cota-Sá,nchez, J. Hugo Canadian Science Publishing 2010 Botany Vol.88 No.9

<P> The taxonomy, rarity, and conservation status of Allium L. is revised for the Canadian prairie provinces, based on analyses of herbarium specimens and fieldwork. Five species are recognized: Allium schoenoprasum L., A. geyeri S. Watson var. tenerum M.E. Jones, A. textile A. Nelson & J.F. Macbride, A. cernuum Roth, and A. stellatum Ker Gawler. Distribution maps and a key to species are provided, as well as complete descriptions of the species examined, including new illustrations, information on nomenclatural types, synonymies, and chromosomal and ecological data. A lectotype is designated for A. geyeri var. tenerum. In this study, A. geyeri var. geyeri reported from Alberta and Saskatchewan and ranked in these provinces as having rarity levels S2 and S1, respectively, by the Nature Conservancy, is excluded from the Canadian flora and the rare list of these provinces because it was misidentified from a herbarium specimen of A. textile. Allium tricoccum Solander in W. Aiton is regarded as a non-native species to Manitoba. The rarity and conservation status of Allium in the Canadian prairie provinces is as follows: (i) A. schoenoprasum, listed as S2 in Saskatchewan, is rare in Manitoba, although its rarity status has not been formally assessed in the province; (ii) A. geyeri var. tenerum is the rarest Allium taxon, with distribution restricted to the Waterton Lakes National Park areas of Alberta, and is currently listed as S2; and (iii) A. cernuum was re-evaluated and a rarity level of S1S2 was recommended for the species in Saskatchewan, particularly in its southwestern distributional habitat. </P>

La institución Matrimonial : Registros literario y legal en el siglo XIX mexicano

Robles, María Guadalupe Sánchez 서울대학교 스페인중남미연구소 2006 이베로아메리카硏究 Vol.17 No.-

      • Kansei and Design: A Systematic Mapping Review

        ( Sánchez-salgado¸ A. ),( Lee¸ S. H. ),( Sanabria-z¸ J. ) 한국감성과학회 2021 추계학술대회 Vol.2021 No.0

Notwithstanding the significant influence the application of Kansei has had on the field of design in recent decades, there is no record of analyses of its recent modes of implementation, limiting the transfer of knowledge for the emergence of future projects. In this regard, a Systematic Mapping Review was carried out to identify the current status of research related to Kansei and Design. Publications in Scopus and Web of Science databases from the last six years were analyzed considering the number of publications, location, and research area, among others. Findings show that while Asia continues to lead in the number of publications, diversity exists in the nationality of the authors. Fields of application, include product design, and aesthetic design along with an ongoing interest within technology areas. In general terms, it became evident that the interest in Kansei has not only remained current, but has increased and has been expanding geographically. Moreover, its application in the Design area has become so broad that it ranges from Emotional Design to Human-Robot Interaction Design. It is envisaged that the results of this study will contribute to identifying future areas of research at the convergence of kansei and design fields.

Presence of IgE Autoantibodies Against Eosinophil Peroxidase and Eosinophil Cationic Protein in Severe Chronic Spontaneous Urticaria and Atopic Dermatitis

        Sánchez Jorge,Sánchez Andres,Munera Marlon,Garcia Elizabeth,Lopez Juan-Felipe,Velásquez-Lopera Margarita,Cardona Ricardo 대한천식알레르기학회 2021 Allergy, Asthma & Immunology Research Vol.13 No.5

Purpose: Eosinophils are frequently found in atopic dermatitis (AD) and chronic spontaneous urticaria (CSU) that release eosinophil peroxidase (EPX) and eosinophil cationic protein (ECP). Continuous exposure to these proteins could trigger an autoimmune response which may contribute to the pathogenesis and severity of skin inflammation. In this study, we investigate the immunoglobulin E (IgE) response against eosinophil proteins in CSU and AD. Methods: We recruited patients with severe AD, severe CSU and healthy subjects to explore the presence of IgE autoantibodies and cross-reactivity against EPX, ECP and thyroid peroxidase (TPO). The potential cross-reactive epitopes among the peroxidase family were determined using in silico tools. Results: The frequencies of anti-EPX IgE (28.8%) and anti-ECP IgE (26.6%) were higher in the AD group, and anti-TPO IgE was higher in the CSU group (27.2%). In the CSU group, there was a correlation between the anti-EPX IgE and anti-TPO IgE levels (r = 0.542, P < 0.001); TPO inhibited 42% of IgE binding to EPX, while EPX inhibited 59% of IgE binding to TPO, suggesting a cross-reactivity with EPX as a primary sensitizer. There was greater inhibition when we used a pool of sera CSU and AD, TPO inhibited 52% of IgE binding to EPX, while EPX inhibited 78% of IgE binding to TPO. In silico analysis showed a possible shared epitope in the peroxidase protein family. Conclusions: IgE against eosinophil proteins may contribute to chronic inflammation in patients with AD and CSU. Cross-reactivity between EPX and TPO could explain thyroid problems in CSU patients.

Assessment of sediment profiles applying nuclear techniques: use of a nucleonic gauge in Panama Canal watershed

        Sánchez Xavier,Hoo Henry,Brisset Patrick,Pinzón Reinhardt 한국원자력학회 2022 Nuclear Engineering and Technology Vol.54 No.11

An industrial nuclear technique based on the use of an X-ray profiler was implemented to estimate the densities or concentrations of sediments present in an Atlantic maritime zone in the areas subjected to dredging under the governance of the Panama Canal Authority (ACP). The sediment profiles show in most areas there is a concentration of between 1.00-1.15 g/cm3 except for one area in particular, the density starts at 1.20 g/cm3 and even reaches values greater than 1.50 g/ cm3 ; therefore, an already consolidated sediment is present, which, depending on the depth found. Values of 1.265 g/cm3 , 1.297 g/cm3 , 1.185 g/cm3 obtained by ACP previous studies are within the range of 1.20e1.30 g/cm3 measured with the nucleonic gauge. However, it should be noted that during the tests with the X ray profiler, sediment densities values greater than the aforementioned limit were also obtained that varying according at depths close to 12 m and 18 m with values reached up to 1.513 g/cm3 and 1.60 g/cm3 , respectively. This demonstrates that sediment accumulation depends on depth. This nucleonic gauge is feasible technique for the study of the sedimentation phenomenon in channel basins and even in other projects nationwide.

Nematicidal Effect of Shiitake (Lentinula edodes) Extracts Against Haemonchus contortus

        Jesús Antonio Pineda-Alegría,José E Sánchez,Elsa Ventura-Zapata,Manases González-Cortazar,Liliana Aguilar-Marcelino 한국식품영양과학회 2021 Journal of medicinal food Vol.24 No.9

During the previous decades, the indiscriminate use of anthelmintics for the control of gastrointestinal nematodes has generated anthelmintic resistance in different parts of the world. It is necessary to search for new sustainable control alternatives, such as the use of extracts from plants and edible mushrooms. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to evaluate the nematicidal activity of extracts and fractions of the edible mushroom Lentinula edodes against Haemonchus contortus eggs and infective larvae. The basidiomata of L. edodes ECS-401 were provided by the Tropical Fungi Laboratory of El Colegio de la Frontera Sur and were extracted with ethyl acetate, methanol, and water. Fractionation of the most active extract was carried out by open column chromatography. The bioassays were performed in 96-well microtiter plates using 100 eggs/larvae, a final volume of 100 μL, and different concentrations of extracts/fractions (n = 4). Bioassay readings were taken at 48 h for egg hatching inhibition (EHI) and at 24, 48 and 72 h for larval mortality (LM). The ethyl acetate extract exhibited the highest percentage of EHI (100%). For the LM bioassay, the aqueous extract was the most active (69%), but its fractions did not show larvicidal activity. The chemical profile of the aqueous extract was analyzed by high-performance liquid chromatography, which showed the presence of phenols, flavonoids, and terpenes. L. edodes extracts showed ovicidal and/or larvicidal activity.
