        Optimal Power Allocation for Channel Estimation of OFDM Uplinks in Time-Varying Channels

        This paper deals with optimal power allocation for channel estimation of orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing uplinks in time-varying channels. In the existing literature, the estimation of time-varying channel response in an uplink environment can be accomplished by estimating the corresponding channel parameters. Accordingly, the optimal power allocation studied in the literature has been in terms of minimizing the mean square error of the channel estimation. However, the final goal for channel estimation is to enable the application of coherent detection, which usually means high spectral efficiency. Therefore, it is more meaningful to optimize the power allocation in terms of capacity. In this paper, we investigate capacity with imperfect channel estimation. By exploiting the derived capacity expression, an optimal power allocation strategy is developed. With this developed power allocation strategy, improved performance can be observed, as demonstrated by the numerical results.

        Joint optimization of beamforming and power allocation for DAJ‐based untrusted relay networks

        Destination‐assisted jamming (DAJ) is usually used to protect confidential information against untrusted relays and eavesdroppers in wireless networks. In this paper, a DAJ‐based untrusted relay network with multiple antennas installed is presented. To increase the secrecy, a joint optimization of beamforming and power allocation at the source and destination is studied. A matched‐filter precoder is introduced to maximize the cooperative jamming signal by directing cooperative jamming signals toward untrusted relays. Then, based on generalized singular‐value decomposition (GSVD), a novel transmitted precoder for confidential signals is devised to align the signal into the subspace corresponding to the confidential transmission channel. To decouple the precoder design and optimal power allocation, an iterative algorithm is proposed to jointly optimize the above parameters. Numerical results validate the effectiveness of the proposed scheme. Compared with other schemes, the proposed scheme shows significant improvement in terms of security performance.

        Optimized BD-ZF Precoder for Multiuser MIMO-VFDM Cognitive Transmission

        In this paper, we study an optimized block-diagonal zero-forcing (BD-ZF) precoder in a two-tiered cognitive network consisting of a macro cell (MC) and a small cell (SC). By exploiting multiuser multiple-input and multiple-output Vandermonde-subspace frequency-division multiplexing (VFDM) transmission, a cognitive SC can coexist with an MC. We first devise a cross-tier precoder based on the idea of VFDM to cancel the interference from the SC to the MC. Then, we propose an optimized BD-ZF intra-tier precoder (ITP) to suppress multiuser interference and maximize the throughput in the SC. In the case where the dimension of a provided null space is larger than that required by the BD-ZF ITP, the optimized BD-ZF ITP can collect all limited channel gain by optimizing rotating and selecting matrices. Otherwise, the optimized BD-ZF ITP is validated to be equivalent to the conventional BD-ZF ITP in terms of throughput. Numerical results are presented to demonstrate the throughput improvement of the proposed optimized BD-ZF ITP and to discover the impact of imperfect channel state information.

        Energy-efficient full-duplex UAV relaying networks: Trajectory design for channel-model-free scenarios

        In this paper, we propose an energy-efficient unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) relaying network. In this network, the channels between UAVs and ground transceivers are model-free. A UAV acting as a flying relay explores better channels to assist in efficient data delivery between two ground nodes. The full-duplex relaying mode is applied for potential energy efficiency (EE) improvements. With the genetic algorithm, we manage to optimize the UAV trajectory for any arbitrary radio map scenario. Numerical results demonstrate that compared to other schemes (eg, fixed trajectory/speed policies), the proposed algorithm performs better in terms of EE. Additionally, the impact of self-interference on average EE is also investigated.
