Speeding up Additive Manufacturing by Means of Forming for Sheet Components with Core Structures

        Stephan Rosenthal,Marlon Hahn,A. Erman Tekkaya,Sebastian Platt,Stefan Kleszczynski,Gerd Witt 한국정밀공학회 2022 International Journal of Precision Engineering and Vol.9 No.4

A new process combination route consisting of additive manufacturing (AM) with a subsequent forming operation is proposed. The process route has the opportunity to increase the efficiency of the AM process route up to 360%. Stainless steel 316L sheets with different core structures (similar to sandwich sheets) are produced by AM, characterized, and formed in a die bending operation. The bending characteristics of this novel semi-finished product can be accurately predicted in a numerical simulation. The new process route is discussed in detail and compared to conventional AM parts in terms of the production efficiency.

        Transgender youth: current concepts

Stephen M. Rosenthal 대한소아내분비학회 2016 Annals of Pediatirc Endocrinology & Metabolism Vol.21 No.4

In many countries throughout the world, increasing numbers of gender nonconforming/transgender youth are seeking medical services to enable the development of physical characteristics consistent with their experienced gender. Such medical services include use of agents to block endogenous puberty at Tanner stage II with subsequent use of cross-sex hormones, and are based on longitudinal studies demonstrating that those individuals who were first identified as gender dysphoric in early or middle childhood and continue to meet the mental health criteria for being transgender at early puberty are likely to be transgender as adults. This review addresses terms and definitions applicable to gender nonconforming youth, studies that shed light on the biologic determinants of gender identity, current clinical practice guidelines for transgender youth, challenges to optimal care, and priorities for research

      • 런던 사우스뱅크 센터Southbank Center Lodon의 액티브 아트

스테파니 로젠탈(Stephanie Rosenthal) 한국예술종합학교 미술원 조형연구소 2009 Visual Vol.6 No.-

Southbank Centre is a unique cultural site with an important Festival of Britain heritage. Built in 1951, it insisted that excellence and universal enjoyment should live side by side. Without apology for either. The Southbank Centre is an international cultural centre that engages with the public using varied public spaces, unique and classic art forms and different kinds of events. As a venue, we consider the outdoor space as valuable as the indoor space. My aim will be to present the multiple facets of how the Southbank Centre as a whole manages to engage the public with free and paid events. Visual arts at Southbank Centre currently consists of three distinct strands - the Hayward; built in 1968, the Hayward Touring programme and the Arts Council Collection. I will briefly refer to the visual arts program of the Hayward Gallery. whose core values are the unorthodox and adventurous; a combination of radical excellence and extremity which gives the public the opportunity to experience art on a high level of sensual participatory engagement. The pioneering impulse behind our programme involves bringing things to London that have never been seen before as well as presenting career-defining exhibitions of well-known artists that invite us to see and think about them in different terms. M an example I will talk about the exhibition Psycho Buildings and Robin Rhode this past year. The Southbank Centre’s Hayward Touring programme. funded by Arts Council England. is dedicated to circulating art around the ’provinces’ in the UK. The idea behind this is to enhance the cultural life of the UK as a whole. reaching those parts where resources were scarce. Hayward touring acts as a laboratory for ideas and nurtures new curatorial approaches. We collaborate with independent curators from other institutions on a thought-provoking mix of shows of international contemporary art. Hayward touring allows exhibitions to be more elaborate and expensive even with a small staff and restricted financial resources by sharing the costs and administrative burdens with other institutions. Also touring shows over the country maximises their impact. Exhibitions range in scale from the British Art Show, an ambitious multi-site survey of recent work presented in different cities every five years, to graphics and photography shows that tour to smaller venues. including arts centres, libraries and schools in virtually every town in the country. I will argue, that it is important for a new art center today, to engage with active and not forcefully interactive art. Furthermore I will show the importance of drawing a parallel between art forms, instead of forcing interdisciplinary art.

      • Anticancer Effect of Fucoidan in Combination with Tyrosine Kinase Inhibitor Lapatinib

Oh, Byeongsang,Kim, Jihun,Lu, Weidong,Rosenthal, David Hindawi Publishing Corporation 2014 Evidence-based Complementary and Alternative Medic Vol.2014 No.-

Background. Despite a number of in vitro and in vivo studies reporting the efficacy of fucoidan in treating various cancers, few studies have measured the efficacy of dietary fucoidan (DF) in combination with cancer drugs. Thus, we examined the sensitivity of DF in combination with the EGFR/ERBB2-targeting reagent lapatinib on cancer cells. Method. We selected six EGFR/ERBB2-amplified cancer cell lines (OE19, NCI-N87, OE33, ESO26, MKN7, and BT474) as an in vitro model and tested their sensitivity to DF alone and to DF in combination with the well-known EGFR/ERBB2-targeting reagent lapatinib. Result. Overall, in drug independent sensitivity test, DF alone did not significantly inhibit the growth of EGFR/ERBB2-amplified cancer cells in vitro. When DF was given in combination with lapatinib, however, it tended to synergistically inhibit cell growth in OE33 but antagonized the action of lapatinib in ESO26, NCI-N87, and OE19. Conclusion. This study suggests that DF has the potential to increase or decrease the effects of certain anticancer drugs on certain cancer cell types. Further study is needed to explore the mechanism of interaction and synergistic antitumor activity of DF in combination with chemotherapy and targeted therapy.

      • High Rates of SVR12 in Adolescents Treated with the Combination of Ledipasvir/Sofosbuvir

        ( Kathleen Schwarz ),( Karen F. Murray ),( Philip Rosenthal ),( Sanjay Bansal ),( Chuan-hao Lin ),( Sooji Lee ),( Liyun Ni ),( Bittoo Kanwar ),( Jenna Fraser ),( Polina German ),( Diana M. Brainard ) 대한간학회 2018 춘·추계 학술대회 (KASL) Vol.2018 No.1

Aims: Although direct acting antivirals have transformed HCV treatment of adults, the standard of care for adolescents and younger children with GT1 HCV is still limited to treatment with pegylated interferon+ribavirin for 48 weeks. The aim of this study was to evaluate the safety, efficacy and pharmacokinetics of the fixed dose single tablet regimen, ledipasvir/sofosbuvir (LDV/SOF), administered for 12weeks in GT1 HCV-infected adolescent patients. Methods: Treatment-naive and treatment-experienced adolescent patients aged 12 to less than 18 years old with chronic GT1 HCV were enrolled into this open-label ongoing study to receive 12 weeks of treatment with LDV/SOF 90mg/400 mg once daily. The primary efficacy endpoint is SVR12 (HCV RNA<lower limit of quantitation). Safety is assessed by clinical evaluation and laboratory monitoring. Intensive pharmacokinetic (PK) sampling was done on Day 10 in the first 10 patients (PK lead-in) to confirm the appropriateness of the adult dose in the adolescent population. Results: 100 GT1 patients have been enrolled and treated. The majority are GT1a (81%), female (63%), white (90%), treatment-naive (80%), and vertically infected (84%). The mean age is 15 (range 12-17) years. In the PK lead-in, administration of 1 tablet daily of LDV/SOF provided comparable plasma exposures of LDV, SOF, and GS-331007 (SOF primary metabolite) to those observed in adults. SVR12 rate was 97% (97/100). 3 patients were lost to follow-up. No serious adverse events (AEs) have been reported. AEs are generally mild in severity and grade 3/4 laboratory abnormalities have been infrequent and transient. Conclusions: The 12-week regimen of LDV/SOF 90mg/400 mg has resulted in high SVR rates and is well-tolerated. This regimen provides a safe and effective therapy for adolescents with GT1 HCV infection. Further evaluation is ongoing in children aged 3-11 years old.

All-optical optoacoustic micro-tomography in refl ection mode

        Tamar Harary,Yoav Hazan,Amir Rosenthal 대한의용생체공학회 2023 Biomedical Engineering Letters (BMEL) Vol.13 No.3

High-resolution optoacoustic imaging at depths beyond the optical diffusion limit is conventionally performed using amicroscopy setup where a strongly focused ultrasound transducer samples the image object point-by-point. Althoughrecent advancements in miniaturized ultrasound detectors enables one to achieve microscopic resolution with an unfocuseddetector in a tomographic configuration, such an approach requires illuminating the entire object, leading to an inefficientuse of the optical power, and imposing a trans-illumination configuration that is limited to thin objects. We developed anoptoacoustic micro-tomography system in an epi-illumination configuration, in which the illumination is scanned withthe detector. The system is demonstrated in phantoms for imaging depths of up to 5 mm and in vivo for imaging thevasculature of a mouse ear. Although image-formation in optoacoustic tomography generally requires static illumination, our numerical simulations and experimental measurements show that this requirement is relaxed in practice due to lightdiffusion, which homogenizes the fluence in deep tissue layers.

Energy-based method for analyzing fatigue properties of additively manufactured AlSi10Mg

        Martin Matušů,Katharina Dimke,Jan Šimota,Jan Papuga,Jakub Rosenthal,Vladimír Mára,Libor Beránek 대한기계학회 2023 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.37 No.3

This study focuses on analyzing the thermal response induced by the selfheating effect during cyclic loading of additively manufactured (AM) specimens made from AlSi10Mg aluminum alloy and on its correlation with their fatigue life performance. Four different specimen designs were tested to assess the applicability of various thermographic methods for predicting the fatigue response. These methods focus on estimating the fatigue limit (the Luong method and its versions) or the S-N curve (the Fargione method) from the temperature response of one specimen which is loaded on multiple subsequently increasing levels of the stress amplitude. Such methods could reduce the costs of fatigue experiments by speeding up the estimation of fatigue life performance. The analyses documented in this paper show their large potential (above all in the case of the Fargione method), but also their weaknesses and the need for a more rigorous and broader validation on new experimental data.
