In vivo magnetic resonance imaging morphometry of the patella bone in South Indian population

        Reshma Muhamed,Vasudha V. Saralaya,B. V. Murlimanju,Ganesh Kumar Chettiar 대한해부학회 2017 Anatomy & Cell Biology Vol.50 No.2

Racial differences exist in the dimensions of structures and the commercially available prostheses are designed based on the Caucasians. In this context, the goal of the present investigation was to determine the gender wise measurements of patella bone in South Indians. The present study included axial magnetic resonance images of the knee joint from 140 South Indian adults (70 males, 70 females; aged between 20–70 years). The angle, width, thickness, lateral facet width, facet thickness, ratio of the lateral facet, the relative thickness and ratio of facet thickness were measured in the patella by using the digital ruler. The statistical analysis was performed by using the SPSS software. The dimensions exhibited statistically highly significant sexual dimorphism (P≤0.001). The mean value was higher in males than females except for the ratio of patellar lateral facet and patellar facet thickness ratio. It was observed that the males exhibit more variability than females in all the measurements of patella except patellar thickness, patellar facet thickness, patellar relative thickness, and patellar facet thickness ratio. The present study of the in vivo morphometry of patella bone from the South Indians can provide a population and gender specific database for the morphometric measurements of the patella. We believe that the data of the present study will be useful to the orthopaedician during the procedures like arthroplasty of the total knee, patellofemoral arthroplasty, resurfacing of patella, and designing the prosthetic implant.

        Reshma Parveen Shaik,Ram Sunil Chukka,Anila Bandlapally,Sayesh Vemuri,Nagesh Bolla,Ram Chowdary Basam,Sravanthi Tammineedi 대한치과마취과학회 2022 Journal of Dental Anesthesia and Pain Medicine Vol.22 No.4

Background: Various instrument kinematics used in single-visit endodontics influence the occurrence of pain after endodontic therapy. This study aimed to evaluate the occurrence of pain after mechanical instrumentation with Hyflex EDM (HEDM) and WaveOne Gold (WOG) during single-visit endodontic therapy. Methods: Sixty patients diagnosed with asymptomatic irreversible pulpitis and normal apical tissues in mandibular premolar teeth were included in the study for single-visit root canal therapy. The patients were divided into two groups (n = 30) according to the rotary instrument used during root canal preparation (group A [HEDM] and group B [WOG]). Pain was evaluated after endodontic therapy at 8, 24, and 48 h intervals using the visual analog scale (VAS). Data obtained were analyzed using the chi-square test, independent t-test, MannWhitney U test, and Wilcoxon matched-pairs test. Results: Statistically significant differences were observed between the two groups (P < 0.001) at 8, 24, and 48 h, with WOG exhibiting less pain than HEDM files. Conclusion: Postoperative pain was lower in the WOG file system than in the HEDM file system after single-visit root canal therapy at 8, 24, and 48 h.

Cytogenetic assessment of Haworthia using flow cytometry and fluorescence in situ hybridization

        Reshma Yesmin,Md. Mazharul Islam,Deen Mohammad Deepo,김홍열,Chang Kil Kim,Ki-Byung Lim 한국원예학회 2022 Horticulture, Environment, and Biotechnology Vol.63 No.1

The purpose of this study was to investigate cytogenetic variations between the nine Haworthia species necessary forsubsequent breeding. Flow cytometric analysis of H. badia ‘Murasaki’, H. splendens , H. truncata ‘Seiko’, H. cooperi var. obtusa , H. cymbiformis , H. mirabilis var. mundula , and H. retusa showed a wide range of DNA content from 10.17 to12.17 pg/1C, whereas two tetraploids, H. limifolia and H. angustifolia var. baylisii , showed higher DNA content of 16.81 and12.64 pg/1C, respectively. Seven diploid Haworthia expressed three karyotype formulas, whereas two tetraploid Haworthiaeach expressed a diff erent karyotype formula. Secondary constriction was observed in H. truncata ‘Seiko’ and H. cooperivar. obtusa . Results of fl uorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) showed a major diff erence between the diploid and tetraploidHaworthia in the distribution of 5S and 18S ribosomal DNA (rDNA) loci. There were eight loci in two out of sevendiploids and both tetraploid Haworthia , while H. cymbiformis and H. mirabilis var. mundula each showed seven 18S rDNAloci. H. badia ‘Murasaki’, H. splendens , and H. retusa had four, three, and fi ve 18S rDNA loci, respectively. In addition, asingle pair of 5S rDNA loci was observed in all diploid Haworthia except H. cooperi var. obtusa , which had four 5S rDNAloci. Each tetraploid Haworthia had four 5S rDNA loci, with two strong and two weak signals. All 5S and 18S rDNA lociwere observed on the long arm, in the subtelomeric or telomeric region, while a signifi cant variation in chromosome lengthwas observed among the Haworthia . This cytological analysis provides the necessary genetic information to elucidate thegenetic makeup of newly introduced Haworthia hybrids.

      • Security Threat Identification and Prevention among Secondary Users in Cognitive Radio Networks

Reshma, CR.,Arun, kumar B.R International Journal of Computer ScienceNetwork S 2021 International journal of computer science and netw Vol.21 No.5

The Cognitive radio (CR) is evolving technology for managing the spectrum bandwidth in wireless network. The security plays a vital role in wireless network where the secondary users are trying to access the primary user's bandwidth. During the allocation the any malicious user either he pretends to be primary user or secondary user to access the vital information's such as credentials, hacking the key, network jam, user overlapping etc. This research paper discusses on various types of attack and to prevent the attack in cognitive radio network. In this research, secondary users are identified by the primary user to access the primary network by the secondary users. The secondary users are given authorization to access the primary network. If any secondary user fails to provide the authorization, then that user will be treated as the malicious user. In this paper two approaches are suggested one by applying elliptic curve cryptography and the other method by using priority-based service access.

Differential Expression Pattern Of MADS Box Genes in Floral Whorls of Garcinia indica

Reshma V Patil,Kiran D Pawar 한국작물학회 2019 Journal of crop science and biotechnology Vol.22 No.4

Flower formation is one of the main developmental stages in thelife cycle of flowering plantsthat can be used as a model systemto elucidate the molecular mechanics that control the developmental process in plants. In the present study, we investigated the floral homeotic and MADS box genes in the polygamadioecious tree Garcinia indica. The differential gene expressions of floral homeotic and MADS box genes in male, female, bisexual flowers, and floral organs such as sepal, petal, stamen, and carpel were studied by employing quantitative real-time, PCR-based assays. Of ninedifferentially expressed floral genes of the MADS box class, AGL11, the master control gene of ovule identity was found to be expressed 2-fold higher in female carpel whereas theribosome protein involved in ovule development showed 2x106-fold high expression in the female carpel. The hierarchical clustering grouped these genes into fourmajor clusters:cluster I comprised AGL11, AG, and PMADS2, cluster II comprised AP3 and AGL9, cluster III comprised SEP1 and ELFB, and cluster IV comprised AG pathway and ribosome protein. The clustering found was correlated with the quantitative and qualitative expression of genes.

Assessing the Systemic Toxicity in Rabbits after Sub Acute Exposure to Ocular Irritant Chemicals

Reshma, Cherian Sebastian,Sruthi, Sudhakaran,Syama, Santhakumar,Gayathri, Vishwanath,Mohanan, Parayanthala Valappil Korean Society of ToxicologyKorea Environmental Mu 2015 Toxicological Research Vol.31 No.1

Eye is a highly vascularised organ. There are chances that a foreign substance can enter the systemic circulation through the eye and cause oxidative stress and evoke immune response. Here the eyes of rabbits were exposed, for a period of 7 days, to 5 known ocular irritants: Cetyl pyridinium chloride (CPC), sodium salicylate (SS), imidazole (IMI), acetaminophen (ACT) and nicotinamide (NIC). The eyes were scored according to the draize scoring. Blood collected from the treated rabbit were analyzed for haematological and biochemical parameters. After sacrifice, histological analysis of the eye and analysis of pro-inflammatory biomarkers ($IL-1{\alpha}$, $IL-1{\beta}$, IL-8 and $TNF-{\alpha}$) in the cornea using ELISA was carried out. Spleen was collected and the proliferation capacities of spleenocytes were analyzed. Liver and brain were collected and assessed for oxidative stress. The eye irritation potential of the chemicals was evident from the redness and swelling of the conjunctiva and cornea. Histopathological analysis and ELISA assay showed signs of inflammation in the eye. However, the haematological and biochemical parameters showed no change. Spleenocyte proliferations showed only slight alterations which were not significant. Also oxidative stress in the brain and liver were negligible. In conclusion, chemicals which cause ocular irritation and inflammation did not show any systemic side-effects in the present scenario.
