Pathological description and immunohistochemical demonstration of ovine abortion associated with Toxoplasma gondii in Iran

Rassouli, Maryam,Razmi, Golam Reza,Movassaghi, Ahmad Reza,Bassami, Mohammad Reza,Sami, Mehrdad The Korean Society of Veterinary Science 2013 大韓獸醫學會誌 Vol.53 No.1

The obligatory intracellular protozoan parasite Toxoplasma gondii is a major world wide cause of infectious ovine abortion. In some different diagnostic techniques that are being used to detect this pathogen in ovine fetuses, immunohistochemistry (IHC) is a very sensitive and expensive one. Histopathology is not truly a specific and sensitive test for Toxoplasma infection but it can be helpful to choose some suspected tissues for IHC. In this study 9.5% of 200 samples (aborted ovine fetuses internal organs such as brain, liver, heart, lung, kidney, spleen) (4.6~14.4% with 95% CI) were positive in IHC with a very good logical agreement among different diagnostic techniques (${\kappa}=0.73$, 0.8) and with no significant difference among different fetal age groups (p > 0.05).

Study of the impact of sequence of corrosion inhibitor doping in zeolite on the self-healing properties of silane sol–gel film

Leili Rassouli,Reza Naderi,Mohammad Mahdavain 한국공업화학회 2018 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.66 No.-

Different doping approaches were examined to prepare NaX zeolite nanoparticles as host for Zn2+ and mercaptobenzimidazole. The zeolites were incorporated in a silane sol–gel coating. In solution phase, the corrosion inhibition was found to depend on the sequence of doping. The released inhibitors reduced the steel corrosion through formation of a protective layer on the surface. In best condition, the layer reduced corrosion current density from 13.9 μA cm−2 to 1.5 μA cm−2 after 24 h exposure. According to trend and magnitude of charge transfer resistance, superiority of the coating with zeolites was attributed to function of inhibitors at interface.

      • Embryonic stem cell interactomics: the beginning of a long road to biological function.

        Yousefi, Maram,Hajihoseini, Vahid,Jung, Woojin,Hosseinpour, Batol,Rassouli, Hassan,Lee, Bonghee,Baharvand, Hossein,Lee, KiYoung,Salekdeh, Ghasem Hosseini Humana Press 2012 Stem cell reviews and reports Vol.8 No.4

<P>Embryonic stem cells (ESCs) are capable of unlimited self-renewal while maintaining pluripotency. They are of great interest in regenerative medicine due to their ability to differentiate into all cell types of the three embryonic germ layers. Recently, induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) have shown similarities to ESCs and thus promise great therapeutic potential in regenerative medicine. Despite progress in stem cell biology, our understanding of the exact mechanisms by which pluripotency and self-renewal are established and maintained is largely unknown. A better understanding of these processes may lead to discovery of alternative ways for reprogramming, differentiation and more reliable applications of stem cells in therapies. It has become evident that proteins generally function as members of large complexes that are part of a more complex network. Therefore, the identification of protein-protein interactions (PPI) is an efficient strategy for understanding protein function and regulation. Systematic genome-wide and pathway-specific PPI analysis of ESCs has generated a network of ESC proteins, including major transcription factors. These PPI networks of ESCs may contribute to a mechanistic understanding of self-renewal and pluripotency. In this review we describe different experimental approaches for the identification of PPIs along with various databases. We discuss biological findings and technical challenges encountered with interactome studies of pluripotent stem cells, and provide insight into how interactomics is likely to develop.</P>

      • Ferutinin, an Apoptosis Inducing Terpenoid from Ferula ovina

Matin, Maryam Moghaddam,Nakhaeizadeh, Hossein,Bahrami, Ahamd Reza,Iranshahi, Mehrdad,Arghiani, Nahid,Rassouli, Fatemeh Behnam Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.5

A current hurdle in cancer management is the intrinsic or acquired resistance of cancer cells to chemical agents that restricts the efficacy of therapeutic strategies. Accordingly, there is an increasing desire to discover new natural compounds with selective toxicity to combat malignancies. In present study, the cytotoxic and apoptosis-inducing activities of ferutinin, a terpenoid derivative from Ferula ovina, were investigated on human breast (MCF7) and bladder (TCC) cancer cells as well as normal fibroblasts (HFF3).The toxicity and DNA damage inducing effects of ferutinin were studied by MTT and comet assays, DAPI and PI staining and DNA laddering. The $IC_{50}$ values of ferutinin were identified and compared with routine prescribed drugs, doxorubicin and vincristine, by MTT test. Alkaline comet assay and DAPI staining revealed DNA damage due to ferutinin, which was significantly (p<0.001) higher in MCF7 and TCC than HFF3 cells. Apoptosis induction was evidenced by PI staining and DNA laddering. Our results suggest that ferutinin could be considered as an effective anticancer agent for future in vivo and clinical experiments.

The Beneficial Effects of Olibanum on Memory Deficit Induced by Hypothyroidism in Adult Rats Tested in Morris Water Maze

        Mahmoud Hosseini,Mosa Al-Reza Hadjzadeh,Mohammad Derakhshan,Shahrzad Havakhah,Fatemeh Behnam Rassouli,Hassan Rakhshandeh,Fatema Saffarzadeh 대한약학회 2010 Archives of Pharmacal Research Vol.33 No.3

Functional consequences of hypothyroidism include impaired learning and memory and inability to produce long-term potentiation (LTP) in hippocampus. Olibanum has been used for variety of therapeutic purposes. In traditional medicine, oilbanum is used to enhance learning and memory. In the present study the effect of olibanum on memory deficit in hypothyroid rats was investigated. Male wistar rats were divided into four groups and treated for 180 days. Group 1 received tap drinking water while in group 2, 0.03% methimazol was added to drinking water. Group 3 and 4 were treated with 0.03% methimazole as well as 100 and 500 mg/kg olibanum respectively. The animals were tested in Morris water maze. The swimming speed was significantly lower and the distance and time latency were higher in group 2 compared with group 1. In groups 3 and 4 the swimming speed was significantly higher while, the length of the swim path and time latency were significantly lower in comparison with group 2. It is concluded that methimazole-induced hypothyroidism impairs learning and memory in adult rats which could be prevented by using olibanum.

Evaluating the Factor Structure of the Persian Version of Posttraumatic Growth Inventory in Cancer Patients

        Mehdi Heidarzadeh,Parisa Naseri,Mahmood Shamshiri,Behrouz Dadkhah,Maryam Rassouli,Mehri Gholchin 한국간호과학회 2017 Asian Nursing Research Vol.11 No.3

Purpose: This study aimed to assess the factor structure of the Persian version of posttraumatic growth inventory (P-PTGI). Methods: Participants included 272 Iranian people of Azari ethnicity (111 women and 161 men), aged between 21 and 91 years (mean 52.65 years), who were diagnosed with cancer and were referred to the oncology department of the university hospital. The P-PTGI was assessed to determine the construct validity, using various indices of confirmatory factor analysis and standardized lambda coefficient, followed by further assessment of the discriminant and convergent validities by using the structural equation model. LISREL 8.8 for Windows and SPSS were used for data analysis. Results: The calculated values of comparative fit index, incremental fit index, normed fit index, and nonnormed fit index > .90 and the values of standardized root-mean-square residual < .08 indicate an acceptable fit for the original PTGI. Considering that the values of average variance extracted (.52-.74) were greater than the square of correlation coefficients between the five dimensions of P-PTGI, discriminant validity was approved. Convergent validity was confirmed through a high value of standardized lambda coefficient (.52-.92) between the items and their related factors. Conclusions: This study revealed that P-PTGI has an acceptable validity and reliability for posttraumatic growth assessment in Iranian cancer patients and its factor structure is similar to that of the original form developed by Tedeschi and Calhoun.
