Governing parameters on location of crack Initiation and direction of crack initiation were investigated by performing fretting fatigue tests and analysis on Al 2024-T351. Fatigue tests were carried out using biaxial fatigue machine. It was shown that the dominant fatigue crack tended to initiate at the outer edge of one of the four bridge pads, growing at an angle beneath a pad, before turing perpendicular to the orientation of the axial load. Distribution of stresses generated during fretting fatigue loading along the interface was calculated by elastic FE simulation. It can be known that the location of crack initiation can be predicted by using the maximum tangential stress range or the maximum shear stress range. Futhermore, the crack initiation direction can be predicted by a maximum tangential stress range.

Organized crime in a digitised age Empirical results of the Dutch Organized Crime Monitor

This paper presents the results of empirical analyses regarding the use of information technology (IT) by organized crime groups. In particular, it explores the consequences of the use of IT. Does the use of IT change the ways in which organized crime groups operate? The empirical data consist of 30 large-scale criminal investigations into organized crime. These cases cover cybercrime as well as different types of ‘traditional’ organized crime. Empirical analyses show that IT is used by organized crime groups for the purpose of criminal cooperation and logistics, as well as for handling money flows. However, offline organized crime is still rather ‘traditional’ in many ways. Furthermore, despite the fact that the internet allows offenders to defy physical borders, cybercrime turns out to have a significant local dimension..

<P>A hyaluronic-acid-rich node and duct system (HAR-NDS) was found on the surface of internal organs of mice, and inside their blood and lymph vessels. The nodes (HAR-Ns) were filled with immune cells of the innate system and were especially enriched with mast cells and histiocytes. They also contained hematopoietic progenitor cells (HPCs), such as granulocyte-macrophage, erythroid, multipotential progenitors, and mast cell progenitors (MCPs). MCPs were the most abundant among the HPCs in HAR-Ns. Their frequency was fivefold higher than that of the MCPs in bone marrow. In addition, the system contained pluripotent stem cells (PSCs) capable of producing CD45(-)Flk1(+) hemangioblast-like cells, which subsequently generated various types of HPCs and differentiated blood cells. Although HAR-Ns did not appear to harbor enough number of cells capable of long-term reconstitution or short-term radioprotection of lethally irradiated recipients, bone marrow cells were able to engraft in the HAR-NDS and reconstitute hematopoietic potentials of the system. PSCs and HPCs were consistently found in intravenous, intralymphatic, and intestinal HAR-ND. We infer that PSCs and HPCs reside in the HAR-ND and that this novel system may serve as an alternative means to traffic immature and mature blood cells throughout the body.</P>
