Prevalence of Neck Pain among Athletes: A Systematic Review

        Pardis Noormohammadpour,Farbod Farahbakhsh,Farzin Farahbakhsh,Mohsen Rostami,Ramin Kordi 대한척추외과학회 2018 Asian Spine Journal Vol.12 No.6

Many studies have investigated the prevalence of neck pain (NP) and its risk factors in the general population. However, the prevalence of NP among athletes has not yet been systematically investigated. We aimed to systematically review the prevalence of NP in athletes. A comprehensive search was conducted in September 2015 using PubMed, Ovid SP Medline, ISI, and Google Scholar. We included studies in English that reported the prevalence of NP in an athletic population during a defined period of time. We assessed the risk of bias in studies due to various definitions of NP, response rates, and reliability of the study instruments. Two reviewers independently assessed the studies’ quality and performed data extraction. Of 1,675 titles identified, eight articles were assessed for risk of bias, and six with low or moderate risk were included. NP was shown to be prevalent in athletes, with a 1-week prevalence ranging from 8% to 45%, a 1-year prevalence ranging from 38% to 73%, and a lifetime prevalence of about 48%. The prevalence of NP in athletes is high. More studies regarding the prevalence and risk factors of NP may be useful for planning educational programs and developing appropriate rehabilitation protocols and preventive guidelines. Researchers are encouraged to perform epidemiologic studies in athletes with a low risk of bias.

      • Research on Trust-Based Access Control in The Internet of Things

Pardis Pourghomi,Sadi Evren SEKER,Gheorghita Ghinea,Wassim Masri 보안공학연구지원센터 2016 International Journal of Security and Its Applicat Vol.10 No.12

The paper established TBRI(Trust-Based RBAC in IoT)model, calculation of trust value as the core in TBRI. It established groups, objects’ access threshold, objects’ influence and object evaluation, in order to realize accuracy calculation and prevent hackers obtain trust value through malicious repeated operation. Because the subjects in the Internet of things can be used as objects at the same time, TBRI use different trust value calculation formula to enhance the credibility of the trust value.

        Asian Spine J 2018;12(3):484-489

        Pardis Noormohammadpour,Mahla Kordi,Mohammad Ali Mansournia,Maryam Akbari-Fakhrabadi,Ramin Kordi 대한척추외과학회 2018 Asian Spine Journal Vol.12 No.3

Study Design: Single-blinded randomized controlled trial. Purpose: To evaluate the effects of a multi-step core stability exercise program in nurses with chronic low back pain (CLBP). Overview of Literature: CLBP is a common disorder among nurses. Considering that patient-handling activities predispose nurses to CLBP, core stability exercises suggested for managing CLBP in the general population may also be helpful in nurses. However, sufficient evidence is not available on whether a multi-step core stability exercise program affects pain, disability, quality of life, and the diameter of lateral abdominal muscles in nurses with CLBP. Methods: In this single-blinded randomized controlled trial, 36 female nurses with CLBP were recruited. The sample was divided into two groups of 18 patients (intervention and control). Nurses in the intervention group performed core stability exercises for 8 weeks, based on a progressive pattern over time. Roland–Morris Disability Questionnaire (RDQ), quality of life (36-item Short Form Health Survey [SF-36]), ultrasound assessment of the diameter of lateral abdominal muscles, and Visual Analog Scale (VAS) score for pain were evaluated in the participants before and after the trial. Sixteen nurses (eight from each group) dropped out of the study, and analysis of covariance was used to compare outcomes for the remaining nurses in the intervention (10 nurses) and control (10 nurses) groups. Results: The results after the trial showed significant improvements in RDQ, SF-36, and VAS score in the intervention group compared with that in the control group (p <0.005). Furthermore, the ultrasound data showed a significant increase in the left and right muscle diameter of all three abdominal muscles during the abdominal drawing-in maneuver in the intervention group compared with that in the control group (p <0.05). Conclusions: This study showed that a multi-step core stability exercise program is a helpful treatment option for improving quality of life and reducing disability and pain in female nurses with CLBP.

      • Structural characteristics of Cu/Ti bimetal composite produced by accumulative roll-bonding (ARB)

        Hosseini, M.,Pardis, N.,Danesh Manesh, H.,Abbasi, M.,Kim, D.I. Elsevier Ltd 2017 Materials & Design Vol.113 No.-

Cu/Ti nanostructured bimetal composite was produced by accumulative roll-bonding (ARB) technique and the structural characteristics of this composite were studied both experimentally and by finite element analysis. Macrostructure evolution of the composite layers was investigated by optical and scanning electron microscopes. In addition, transmission electron microscopy (TEM) as well as energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) techniques were utilized for detailed microstructural investigations. Different finite element simulations were designed based on the experimental results. The results were combined with macrostructural observations to gain a better insight into the fragmentation mechanism of the Ti reinforcements. Necking of the Ti layers was observed after 3cycles of ARB processing which was found to happen at shear bands, after sufficient work-hardening of the constituents. Further processing resulted in fragmentation and distribution of lens shaped Ti constituents. It was found that such a shape evolution makes it more difficult to deform the Ti segments by further straining and consequently, a more localized strain concentration happens within the Cu matrix near these segments. A significant grain refinement was observed by TEM investigation of the highly strained composite. ARB processing of Cu/Ti bimetal composite resulted in nanostructured Ti reinforcements distributed within an ultrafine-grained Cu matrix.

Studying the Park-Ang damage index of reinforced concrete structures based on equivalent sinusoidal waves

        Moosa Mazloom,Pardis Pourhaji,Masoud Shahveisi,Seyed Hassan Jafari 국제구조공학회 2019 Structural Engineering and Mechanics, An Int'l Jou Vol.72 No.1

In this research, the vulnerability of some reinforced concrete frames with different stories are studied based on the Park-Ang Damage Index. The damages of the frames are investigated under various earthquakes with nonlinear dynamic analysis in IDARC software. By examining the most important characteristics of earthquake parameters, the damage index and vulnerability of these frames are investigated in this software. The intensity of Erias, velocity spectral intensity (VSI) and peak ground velocity (PGV) had the highest correlation, and root mean square of displacement (Drms) had the lowest correlation coefficient among the parameters. Then, the particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm was used, and the sinusoidal waves were equivalent to the used earthquakes according to the most influential parameters above. The damage index equivalent to these waves is estimated using nonlinear dynamics analysis. The comparison between the damages caused by earthquakes and equivalent sinusoidal waves is done too. The generations of sinusoidal waves equivalent to different earthquakes are generalized in some reinforced concrete frames. The equivalent sinusoidal wave method was exact enough because the greatest difference between the results of the main and artificial accelerator damage index was about 5 percent. Also sinusoidal waves were more consistent with the damage indices of the structures compared to the earthquake parameters.

Effects of halloysite nanotube, nano-silica and micro-silica on rheology, hardened properties and fracture energy of SCLC

        Moosa Mazloom,Pardis Pourhaji,Oveys Afzali-Naniz 국제구조공학회 2021 Structural Engineering and Mechanics, An Int'l Jou Vol.80 No.1

In this paper, the effects of different replacement levels of halloysite nanotube (HNT), colloidal nano-silica (CS), micro-silica (MS), and the combination of them on the fresh and hardened properties of self-compacting lightweight concrete (SCLC) are studied. Four factors including water to binder ratio (w/b) with two levels of 0.35 and 0.45, CS with three replacement levels of 1, 3 and 5%, MS with the replacement level of 10% and HNT with three replacement levels of 1, 2 and 3% were chosen. The fresh properties of SCLCs were observed in terms of slump flow diameter and time, J-ring diameter, Vfunnel time and U-box tests. The hardened properties were determined through mechanical properties including compressive strength, tensile strength, modulus of elasticity and flexural strength. The non-destructive tests including electrical resistivity and water absorption were executed too. Moreover, the effects of MS, CS and HNT contents on the fracture energy of SCLC samples were studied. The results displayed that the mentioned properties for the SCLC specimens containingMS, CS and HNT improved, but the superior performance was obtained in binary mixes, which were created by adding both MS and CS simultaneously. The optimal conditions for having the best results were obtained when the amounts of MS and CS were 10% and 3%, respectively.

Acute effects of one session dry needling on a chronic golfer’s elbow disability

        Ardalan Shariat,Pardis Noormohammadpour,Amir Hossein Memari,Noureddin Nakhostin Ansari,Joshua A. Cleland,Ramin Kordi 한국운동재활학회 2018 JER Vol.14 No.1

A 40-year-old retired male elite athlete with more than 20 years’ experience in wrestling and bodybuilding with mild elbow pain and disability of 2 years presented to our clinic reporting an acute pain in medial aspect of the elbow. Physical examination revealed symptoms of left Golfer’s elbow during target-directed movements. The results of sonography in left elbow showed low level of hypo echo irregularity and increased blood flow in color Doppler mode in the common flexor origin. The pain amplitude was moderate at rest and extremely high during kinetic and intentional movements. During last 2 years, the patient tried different types of therapy including manual therapy, Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation and also received a variety of injections none of which were effective for reducing pain and disability. This is the first study showed that one sessions of dry needling improved both pain and disability and helped to return to a normal life and exercise training.

      • Experimental and finite element analyses of plastic deformation behavior in vortex extrusion

        Shahbaz, M.,Pardis, N.,Kim, J.G.,Ebrahimi, R.,Kim, H.S. Elsevier Sequoia 2016 Materials science & engineering. properties, micro Vol.674 No.-

<P>Vortex extrusion (VE) is a single pass severe plastic deformation (SPD) technique which can impose high strain values with almost uniform distribution within cross section of the processed material. This technique needs no additional facilities for installation on any conventional extrusion equipment. In this study the deformation behavior of material during VE is investigated and the results are compared with those of conventional extrusion (CE). These investigations include finite element analysis, visioplasticity, and microstructural characterization of the processed samples. The results indicate that the VE process can accumulate a higher strain value by applying an additional torsional deformation. The role of this additional deformation mode on the microstructural evolution of the VE sample is discussed and compared with the results obtained on the CE samples. (C) 2016 Elsevier B.V. • HER2/neu Expression in Head and Neck Squamous Cell Carcinoma Patients is not Significantly Elevated

Sardari, Yasaman,Pardis, Soheil,Tadbir, Azadeh Andisheh,Ashraf, Mohammad Javad,Fattahi, Mohammad Javad,Ebrahimi, Hooman,Purshahidi, Sara,Khademi, Bijan,Hamzavi, Marzieh Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2012 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.13 No.6

Background: HER2/neu, a member of EGFR family, is over expressed in some tumors. The purpose of this study was to determine the salivary level and tissue expression of HER2/neu in patients with head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) and any correlation with clinicopathologic parameters. Methods: An enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was used to evaluate the salivary level and immunohistochemistry (IHC) to assess tissue expression of HER2/neu in 28 patients with HNSCC and 25 healthy controls. Results: The salivary levels of HER2/neu in HNSCC patients was not significantly higher than in the healthy controls (p>0.005). There was no apparent correlation in salivary HER2/neu level with clinicopathological features such as age, sex, grade, tumor size and nodal status. All HNSCC specimens were positive (membranous or/and cytoplasmic) for HER2/neu, except one sample. Only one HNSCC specimen was stained in cytoplasm purely. All control specimens were membranous and cytoplasmic positive for HER2/neu. There was a significant difference between cytoplasmic staining in case and control groups (p-value<0.05). Conclusion: In our cases, no overexpression of HER2/neu was observed. Thus, our findings suggested that the use of Her-2 as a salivary marker of HNSCC cannot be recommended.
