A note on the unsteady flow of dusty viscous fluid between two parallel plates

Suraju Olusegun Ajadi 한국전산응용수학회 2005 Journal of applied mathematics & informatics Vol.18 No.1-2

We study the isothermal flow of a dusty viscous incompressible conducting fluid between two types of boundary motions- oscillatory and non-oscillatory, under the influence of gravitational force. Within the frame work of some physically realistic approximations and suitable boundary conditions, closed form solutions were obtained for the velocity profiles and the skin friction of the particulate flow. These results show that for a constant pressure gradient, only the velocity profile of the fluid and the skin friction are unaffected by gravity, while magnetic field is seen to affect both the fluid, particle velocities and the skin friction. Thus, our results are extension of previous results in literature, and graphical demonstration of some these solutions have been presented.

      • Stakeholders' Perception of the Causes and Effects of Construction Delays on Project Delivery

Akinsiku, Olusegun Emmanuel,Akinsulire, Akintunde Korea Institute of Construction Engineering and Ma 2012 Journal of construction engineering and project ma Vol.2 No.4

The growing rate of delays is adversely affecting the timely delivery of construction projects. This study therefore assesses construction stakeholders' perception of the causes of delays and its effects on project delivery in a bid to proffer solution in minimizing the occurrences of delays. Questionnaire was used to elicit responses from construction stakeholders; a total of thirty three causes of delays, seventeen resultant effects of delays and fifteen methods of minimizing construction delays were identified for the study based on literature reviews. The results suggest that client's cash flow related problems are the main causes of delays while time and cost overruns are the major identifiable effects of delays in construction projects. However, adequate project planning and budgeting were suggested as possible ways of minimizing the occurrences of delays.

      • Niger Delta Environmental Degradation and Resource Control Conflict: A Post-Amnesty Analysis of the Yar’ Adua/Jonathan Administration Conflict Resolution and Peace Policy

James Olusegun Adeyeri PhD 부산대학교 한국민족문화연구소 2017 Localities Vol.7 No.-

By early 2014, the Niger Delta region of Nigeria was relatively peaceful largely due to the Federal Government’s Amnesty Program and its allied policy of socio-economic development. The historically intractable Niger Delta conflict between environmental, resource control, and fiscal federalism agitators versus the Nigerian state had indeed begun to show signs of abatement from 2010, following the proclamation and commencement of implementation of an amnesty program by the Umar Yar‘Adua government earlier in 2009. Under this policy, the president declared a general amnesty and unconditional pardon to all the militants who had taken up arms against the Nigerian state during the course of the Niger Delta struggle, and in return they were to surrender their arms and renounce militancy within 60 days. In addition, the Presidential Committee on Amnesty and Disarmament for Militants was established to execute a post-amnesty program of socio-economic development in the Niger Delta worth about N200 billion (Aghalino, 2010:82). However, the relative peace and security achieved in the region by this policy has come under serious threat since February, 2016, following several bomb attacks on oil and gas infrastructure by new militant groups, foremost among which are the Niger Delta Avengers (NDA), the Joint Niger Delta Liberation Force (JNDLF), and the Adaka Boro Avengers (ABA) (Amaize, et al, 2016; Ugwuanyi, 2016; Ogundipe, 2016). This paper is a post-amnesty analysis of the Yar'Adua/Jonathan administration's conflict resolution and peace and security strategy for the Niger Delta to resolve the lingering crisis over environmental degradation and oil exploration. The study raises these questions about the amnesty program: How successful is it? To what extent have ex-militants been re-integrated into society? Has the programme resolved the Niger Delta’s core problems of environmental degradation, acute socio-economic backwardness, and resource control/fiscal federalism grievances? If it has been unsuccessful (as currently unfolding developments in the region indicate), then what next?

THERMAL INSTABILITY IN REACTIVE VISCOUS PLANE POISEUILLE / COUETTE FLOWS FOR TWO EXTREME THERMAL BOUNDARY CONDITIONS

SURAJU OLUSEGUN AJADI 한국산업응용수학회 2009 Journal of the Korean Society for Industrial and A Vol.13 No.2

The problem of thermal stability of an exothermic reactive viscous fluid between two parallel walls in the plane Poiseuille and Couette flow configurations is investigated for different thermal boundary conditions. Neglecting reactant consumption, the closed-form solutions obtained from the momentum equation was inserted into the energy equation due to dissipative effect of viscosity. The resulting energy equation was analyzed for criticality using the variational method technique. The problem is characterized by two parameters: the Nusselt number(N) and the dynamic parameter(Λ). We observed that the thermal and dynamical boundary conditions of the wall have led to a significant departure from known results. The influence of the variable pre-exponential factor, due to the numerical exponent m, also give further insight into the behavior of the system and the results expressed graphically and in tabular forms.

British colonial policy, change and conflict in traditional political institutions and authorities of the Akoko of southwest nigeria, 1897-1960

James Olusegun Adeyeri 이화여자대학교 이화인문과학원 2018 탈경계인문학 Vol.11 No.1

The Akoko are a sub-group of the Yoruba ethnic group in Southwest Nigeria. Despite sharp linguistic variations, the indigenous political system of Akoko towns is akin to the monarchical system in other Yoruba towns. However, between 1897 and 1960 Akokoland fell under British colonial rule, like many other Nigerian territories. The new political system brought far-reaching consequences upon the nature and operations of the pre-existing government and politics in Akoko territory. While certain British colonial policies subverted the power and authority of traditional rulers in Akokoland, some others created conflict within the traditional authorities and institutions of Akoko kingdoms. Therefore, using the chieftaincy crises in Ikare, Oka, and Akungba kingdoms as case studies, this paper shall evaluate the impact of British colonial policy on Akoko traditional political institutions and authorities, particularly with respect to change and conflict during the period 1897-1960. The Indirect rule system introduced by the British administration created far-reaching changes in Akoko traditional institutions, authorities, and society, especially as it substantially undermined the power and authority of Akoko traditional rulers, chiefs and other indigenous institutions in favour of the British colonial administrators and administration. In addition, British colonial policy created disaffection, tension and conflict within and between Akoko traditional institutions and authorities during the study period and left enduring legacies in some kingdoms. Data comprise both primary and secondary sources.

WATER THERAPY IN THE TREATMENT OF DISEASES FROM THE RELIGIOUS EXPERIENCE OF ALADURA PENTECOSTAL MOVEMENT

Peter Olusegun Alokan,Timothy Smith Babatunde 한국외국어대학교 아프리카연구소 2019 Asian Journal of African Studies Vol.- No.45

This paper examines how water can be used as therapy for treating heart related diseases in Nigeria. Primarily, it shows how hydrotherapy has been used in the treatment and cure of diseases in the religious experiences of the Yoruba people in African Traditional Religion and especially the Aladura Churches. From the relevant works related to the subject matter, it is observed that before the arrival of western hospital in Nigeria, several diseases had been cured using water. The Yoruba traditionalists especially had devised several methods for curing diseases with the use of water. Some of the strategies are common in the practices of the Aladura in the early twentieth century and have been subsequently modified by contemporary Aladura Pentecostal Churches. The study adopted socio-historical approach to examine how the Aladura Churches have adopted water therapy to cure several ailments and terminal diseases in Nigeria. The experiences of the researchers as Nigerians and and a continuing observation as an insider in the Aladura church informed the research in useful ways. It was observed that early in the history of Nigeria and the Aladura, water plays very significant role in the healing process of the human body. The study therefore, calls the attention of the Christ Apostolic Church as an Aladura Pentecostal prominent with the use of water for divine healing to the 21st century evangelistic and health relevance of water as therapy for healing diseases. It is believed that the missionary and health benefits of hydrotherapy as considered in this study will have a great impact on the health development and sustainability program of the Federal Government of Nigeria.

Trajectory of brain-drain and quality of work-life amongst Nigeria’s university lecturers: academic staff union of universities (ASUU) incessant strike in retrospect

Akinwale Olusegun Emmanuel,Kuye Owolabi Lateef,Akinwale Olayombo Elizabeth 경희대학교 글로벌 통상·금융연구원 2023 International Trade, Politics and Development Vol.7 No.2

Brain-drain insurgency has become pervasive amongst professionals and the last option for everyone in the country to realise a sustainable quality of work-life (QWL). All youths now in the country have perceived migrating to the international workspace as a noble idea. This study investigates the incidence of brain-drain and QWL amongst academics in Nigerian universities. To sparkle a clearer understanding concerning factors preventing the QWL amongst Nigeria's lecturers, this study utilised a cross-sectional research design to survey the participants across all departments in federal institutions through an explanatory research approach. This study applied an array of adapted scales to evaluate members of academic staff track of what provoked the incidence of brain-drain amongst Nigerian lecturers and possible influence on their QWL. The study surveyed 431 members of academic staff in Nigerian universities to collect useful data and employed a structural equation model (SEM) to analyse the obtained data. The outcome of this study highlights that there is a horrible condition of service amongst Nigerian lecturers, a poor compensation system, poor academic research funding and lack of autonomy are bane to the QWL experienced in Nigerian tertiary institutions today. This study indicates that poor staff development and inadequate university funding are part of the justification that provoked brain-drain insurgence, and allowed the government to lose their skilled and competent egg-heads in the university to other foreign nations of the world. This study demonstrated that brain-drain has become part of Nigeria's national life given that all professionals are seeking better life where their skills, competence and energy would be valued. Brain-drain was not common until these days amongst academics and fewer studies were noted but this study showed a novel paradigm regarding the QWL and brain-drain trajectory.
