Mussel byssal protein has strong adhesive capability even in wet surface. It has been reported that nine proteins in marine blue mussel, often referred to a representative mussel, contribute to form mussel byssal threads and plaques. DOPA containing two hydroxy groups called cathecol is recognized that it plays a major role in adhesion as well as cohesion process within byssal structure. In this paper, adhesion and cohesion mechanisms were introduced and evaluated by supportive literature published during last decade. Diverse applications of cathecol chemicals were also examined in terms of innovative adhesive, bioadhesive and challenging material for tissue engineering. It is noticeable that reconsideration of mussel proteins could provide the various opportunities as biomaterials. 홍합 족사 단백질은 수분이 있는 표면에서도 강한 접착력을 가진다. 홍합 연구에 대표가 되는 marine blue mussel을 통해 9가지 단백질의 구조와 기능이 보고되었으며, 이 단백질들은 홍합 족사를 구성 하는 실(threads)과 플래크(plaques)를 형성한다. 알려진 바에 의하면, 히드록시기 2개가 포함된 카테콜 기능기를 가진 DOPA 물질이 계면접착(adhesion)과 내부결합(cohesion) 과정에서 중요한 역할을 하는 것으로 알려져 있다. 본 논문에서는, 최근 10년간 활발히 연구된 계면접착과 내부응력 메카니즘에 대해 소개하고 평가하였다. 또한, 접착력을 갖는 기능기를 활용한 발전된 접착소재의 개발, 바이오접착제와 의료용 소재로 응용가능성에 대해 살펴보았다. 홍합 단백질이 다시 관심의 대상이 되면서, 바이오소재로 사용될 가능성이 커지고 있음이 주목된다.

Two key technologies of horizontal drilling and hydraulic fracturing are recognized to achieve the rapid growth of shale gas production, in specific, in the United States during last decade. The claims between environmentalists and oil companies have been debating in terms of water contamination. Nowadays, voluntary publication of chemicals from shale gas players are available in the website, FracFocus. This paper introduces chemicals that are currently used in hydraulic fracturing process. Among chemicals, guar gum and guar derivatives are dominantly consumed to increase the viscosity of hydrofracking fluids. The role of additional additives, such as breakers and biocides, is presented by explaining how they cut down the molecular structure of guar gum and guar derivatives. In addition, crosslinking agent, pH controller, friction reducer, and water soluble polymers are also presented.
A partial revision of <i>Allium</i> (Amaryllidaceae) in Korea and north‐eastern China

<P>A taxonomic revision of <I>Allium</I> in Korea and north‐eastern China is presented based on critical observations of wild populations and extensive herbarium material. Species delimitations are re‐evaluated on the basis of macro‐ and micromorphological and cytological characters, resulting in the recognition of 24 species comprised of 26 taxa, among which, four species and two varieties are endemic to Korea, and one species is endemic to China. One previously recognized species is placed into synonymy: <I>A. deltoidefistulosum</I> (under <I>A. sacculiferum</I>). <I>Allium spirale</I> and <I>A. tenuissimum</I> are newly recorded for Korea, and the common names ‘Cham‐du‐me‐bu‐chu’ and ‘Ae‐gi‐sil‐bu‐chu’ are given for these species, respectively. Lectotypes are designated for <I>A. deltoidefistulosum</I>, <I>A. monanthum</I> and <I>A. ophiopogon</I>. Illustrations, photographs and a key to species and varieties are provided in addition to complete descriptions including information on nomenclatural types, synonymies, chromosome numbers, distributions, habitat and specimens examined. 국내 최초 수중 ROV 활용한 장대도수터널(주암댐도수터널 11.5㎞) 점검시행 ROV(Remotely Operated Vehicle): 원격조정장비

국내 물 인프라 시설 노후화가 가속화됨에 따라 기존 육안점검 중심의 점검·진단을 넘어 객관적 데이터 확보와 고품질 성과를 도출하기 위한 기술 도입에 대한 필요성이 증가하고 있다. 이에 따라 스마트 기술 활용을 통한 수중 시설물 안전관리 패러다임의 전환이 절실히 요구된다. 본 조사에서는 주암댐 도수터널에 국내 최초로 수중드론(ROV)을 도입하여 점검을 시행하였다. 수중드론에 탑재된 멀티빔 소나를 이용한 탐사로 3D 포인트 클라우드 맵, 소나 모자이크, Fly Through 애니메이션 성과물을 취득하였고, 이를 통해 터널 내 이상유무(박리·박락, 크랙 및 암 버럭 구간 등)를 확인하였다.
A morphological study of Korean Astilbe (Saxifragaceae)

To understand the variation limit of taxomomic characters, the Korean Astilbe species were reviewed exomorphologically. Based on the results, it was revealed that two types of trichomes on young shoots and inflorescence rachises are most important characters for identifying Astilbe species: multicellular long nonglandular hair and multicellular short glandular hair. On the basis of type specimens, original descriptions, and relevant articles, Astilbe chinensis is a more reasonable scientific name than Astilbe rubra. The restricted natural habitats, such as high rocky terrains of Mt. Halla-san, shorter or smaller vegetative organs, distinctly shorter primary and secondary inflorescence rachises, and larger size of flowers and floral organs made it possible to distinguish Astilbe taquetii from other species. Astilbe koreana is also verified, with its identity distinguished from other species by having one rhizomatous leaf and dense multicellular short glandular hairs on the young shoot, stem, and inflorescence. Because the angle between the secondary leaf axes and the extent to which the secondary inflorescence axis droops showed great variations among species and even in a species, it could not be used as diagnostic characters.
