        The Relationship Between Business Resources, Outside Cooperation, Dynamic Capability, and Performance of Startup Enterprises

        This study seeks to examine the relationship between business resources (through VRIN: Valuable - valuable, Rare - scarce; Inimitable - difficult to adapt, Irreplaceable - hard to replace), dynamic capability, external cooperation, and efficiency of startups operating in the seafood export sector. Research data was collected randomly and conveniently from 250 enterprises in Ba Ria-Vung Tau province, Vietnam, from October 2020 to December 2020. After excluding those ineligible, the remaining 204 enterprises meet the research conditions. With the support of SPSS-AMOS 22 dedicated software, using the 5-step Likert scale and Structural Equation Modeling (SEM), the study conducted analysis steps such as verifying convergence, discriminant value, unidirectional and scale reliability when giving the components correlated freely in the critical model by Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) analysis. Results of the study have shown that the enterprise resource factor - VRIN has a positive impact on dynamic capability, and outside cooperation. However, in contrast to previous studies, we found that the relationship between enterprise resources - VRIN and performance as well as the relationship between dynamics capacity and performance is not clear. This shows that seafood exporters need to promote, exploit and effectively use this precious resource to improve business efficiency.

        Determinants of Accountants' Loyalty Underlying Investment Management: Evidence from FDI Firms in Thanglong Industrial Park

        The research aims to investigate the impact levels of determinants on the loyalty of accountants to FDI firms underlying investment management in Thanglong Industrial Park in Hanoi, Vietnam. We conducted a questionnaire consisting of 31 observation variables with a 5-point Likert scale. Independent variables were measured from 1 "without effect" to 5 "strongly". The method of data collection was done through the survey and subjects are accountants in FDI firms doing business in Thanglong Industrial Park in Hanoi. After checking the information on the votes, there are 120 questionnaires with full information for data entry and analysis, This study employs Cronbach's Alpha test, and regression model. The results show that seven determinants including Working environment, The characteristics of working; Training, promotion prospects and development; Income, Personal characteristic, Collective work together and The method of leading had positive relationships with the loyalty of accountants. Based on the findings, some recommendations are given related to such determinants to improve the loyalty of accountants of FDI firms in general and FDI firms in Thanglong Industrial Park in Hanoi in particular. With which, those firms can enhance performance, reduce financial strain, saving on investment in the recruiting process of new staff, increase profitability to ensure investment management.

        A Study on the Poverty of Mountain People Depending on Forests

        Livelihood capitals have a clear influence on livelihood development. As for the livelihood results, it has been pointed out in the analysis of the poor households that the ability of people to escape poverty depends especially on the access to livelihood capitals. This study aims to analyze the impacts of livelihood capital on poverty among mountain people who depend on forests through human capital, social capital, natural capital, physical capital and financial capital. This research employs the model of binary regression function. Independent variables x1, x2, …, xn are targets of livelihood strategy, vulnerability context, and livelihood capitals. These variables were selected to be included in the original model with dependent variable Y as poor and non-poor households. This study surveys households living in upland areas, near forests, and households of ethnic minorities. The results show that,out of the poor household rate, nearly 4% are newly-poor households or those falling back into poverty. Therefore, the government needs to pay more attention to this disadvantaged group and implements policies such as education and training policies, credit support policies, policies to support forest development, and payment for forest environmental services in the context of emerging countries like Vietnam.

        Some Features of The "Vietnamization" of Confucianism in The History of Vietnam

        본 논문에서는 베트남유학에 담겨 있는 특별한 요소들을 살펴본다. 유학은 본래 베트남고유의 사상체계는 아니다. 그러나 유학은 2000년 동안 베트남의 민족사상 체계 속에 점진적으로 뿌리를 내렸으며 베트남의 발전과 함께 하였다. 이로써 유학은 마침내 베트남문화 발전에 기여를 하게 되어 베트남 유교가 되었다. 유학의 베트남화 과정은 오랜 시간동안 계속 전개되었다. 베트남 학자들 역시 중국유학의 개념들을 사용하였는 바, 대체로 송나라 유학의 개념을 사용하였다. 그러나 베트남 학자들은 중국유학의 몇 가지 특수한 개념들만을 취사선택하고 그것을 핵심으로 가져와 중국유학의 개념체계와는 다른 유학체계를 만들었다. 또한 베트남 유학과 중국 유학을 비교해 볼 때, 이러한 유학의 개념들에 대해 해석하는 방법이 다르다. 유학의 베트남화 과정에 있어서의 주요한 특징들은 다음과 같이 요약할 수 있다. (1) 외래 사상과 문화는 베트남의 실제적 상황 아래 베트남 민족의 질문에 대답을 해야만 존재하고 발전할 수 있다. (2) 베트남 사람들은 외래문화를 수입하였지만 여전히 베트남문화의 본질을 지켰다. (3) 인문주의와 인간존중이 발휘되는 바탕 위에서 ‘베트남화’가 실현될 수 있다. (4) 베트남화 과정은 실용주의적인 성격을 지닌다. 어떠한 이론이든 간에 실천을 함께 수반하는 경향이 있다. (5) 베트남화 과정은 개방성과 문화적 다원성과 사상의 독선을 거부하는 경향을 바탕으로 전개된다. (6) 외래 사상과 문화를 수용할 때 베트남 사람들은 극단적이지 않고 비판적 정신을 견지한다. In this paper, the author considers some distinguished features of Vietnamese Confucianism. Confucianism was originally not an indigenous theoretical system in Vietnam, but in about 2000 years of introducing and developing in this country, it has gradually taken root into Vietnamese theoretical tradition and made an important contribution to its florescence. The process of ‘Vietnamization of the Confucianism’ took place during that long time. Vietnamese scholars also used original Confucian concepts and ideas, mainly the Neo-Confucian ones, but they chose only some of those concepts, considering them key concepts, and based on them they established a system more or less different from Chinese Confucianism. Furthermore, in explaining those concepts’ connotations, Vietnamese Confucianism was not similar to Chinese Confucianism. Some distinctive features of the Vietnamization of Confucianism are as follows: (1) Foreign theories and cultural factors could exist and develop if and only if they were based on Vietnamese reality and used in order to answer problems emerged from it. (2) Foreign culture was accepted, but the characteristics of the indigenous culture were well preserved. (3) “Vietnamization” was based on the confirmation of humanism. (4) The process of Vietnamization was realistic, every theory tended to the close connection with the reality. (5) “Vietnamization” was based on the open-minded and multiculturalist spirit and inclined to avoid monopoly of thought. (6) The Vietnamese are not fanatic: they show their critical spirit when acquiring foreign thoughts and cultures.

        In vitro evaluation of the antioxidant and cytotoxic activities of constituents of the mangrove Lumnitzera racemosa Willd.

        This study performed phytochemical and bioactiveassessments of the mangrove Lumnitzera racemosaWilld. leaves. Bioassay-guided fractionation of the methanolicextracts led to the identification of thirty-six compounds(1–36), their structures were elucidated using detailed NMRspectroscopic and MS analysis. The extracts, fractions, andthe isolated compounds were screened for potential antioxidantand cytotoxic activities. Antioxidant assays wereperformed using peroxyl radical-scavenging and reducingassays, whereas cytotoxicity was measured using MTTassays in HL-60 and Hel-299 cell lines. The methanolicextract, CH2Cl2 and n-BuOH fractions (10.0 lg/mL)exhibited potent antioxidant activity, with Trolox equivalent(TE) values of 24.94 ± 0.59, 28.34 ± 0.20, and27.09 ± 0.37 (lM), respectively. In addition, the isolatedcompounds exerted cytotoxic effects in a dose-dependentmanner; compounds 1 and 14 exhibited the most potentcytotoxicity in HL-60 cells, with IC50 values of 0.15 ± 0.29and 0.60 ± 0.16 lM, respectively. To clarify the mechanism(s) behind these cytotoxic effects, we measured thetime-dependent changes in apoptotic markers including thecondensation and fragmentation of nuclear chromatin, andthe downregulation of p-ERK1/2, p-AKT, and c-Myc levels.

        An evaluation of the RNase H inhibitory effects of Vietnamese medicinal plant extracts and natural compounds

        <P><I>Context</I>: Acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS) is a severe pandemic disease especially prevalent in poor and developing countries. Thus, developing specific, potent antiviral drugs that restrain infection by human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1), a major cause of AIDS, remains an urgent priority.</P><P><I>Objective</I>: This study evaluated 32 extracts and 23 compounds from Vietnamese medicinal plants for their inhibitory effects against HIV-1 ribonuclease H (RNase H) and their role in reversing the cytopathic effects of HIV.</P><P><I>Materials and methods</I>: The plants were air-dried and extracted in different solvent systems to produce plant extracts. Natural compounds were obtained as previously published. Samples were screened for RNase H inhibition followed by a cytopathic assay. Data were analyzed using the Microsoft Excel.</P><P><I>Results and discussion</I>: At 50 μg/mL, 11 plant extracts and five compounds inhibited over 90% of RNase H enzymatic activity. Methanol extracts from <I>Phyllanthus reticulatus</I> and <I>Aglaia aphanamixis</I> leaves inhibited RNase H activity by 99 and 98%, respectively, whereas four extracts showed modest protection against the cytopathic effects of HIV.</P><P><I>Conclusion</I>: The screening results demonstrated that the butanol (BuOH) extract of <I>Celastrus orbiculata</I> leaves, methanol (MeOH) extracts of <I>Glycosmis stenocarpa</I> stems, <I>Eurya ciliata</I> leaves, and especially <I>P. reticulatus</I> leaves showed potential RNase H inhibition and protection against the viral cytopathic effects of HIV-1. Further chemical investigations should be carried out to find the active components of these extracts and compounds as potential anti-HIV drug candidates.</P>

        Application of Electrocoagulation for Printing Wastewater Treatment: From Laboratory to Pilot Scale

        This study reports for the first time the application of electrocoagulation (EC) from laboratory to pilot scales for the treatment of printing wastewater, a hazardous waste whose treatment and disposal are strictly regulated. The wastewater was taken from three real printing companies with strongly varying characteristics. The treatment process was performed in the laboratory for operational optimization and then applied in the pilot scale. The weight loss of the electrode and the generation of sludge at both scales were compared. The results show that the raw wastewater should be diluted before EC treatment if its COD is higher than about 10,000 mg/L. Pilot scale removal efficiencies of COD and color were slightly lower compared to those obtained from the laboratory scale. At pilot scale, the effluent CODs removal efficiency was 81.9 - 88.9% (final concentration of 448 - 992 mg/L) and color removal efficiency was 95.8 - 98.6% (final level of 89 - 202 Pt-Co) which proved the feasibility of EC treatment as an effective pre-treatment method for printing wastewater as well as other high colored and hard-biodegradable wastewaters.

      • Ultralow-Power Ku-Band Dual-Feedback Armstrong VCO With a Wide Tuning Range

        <P>Here, we investigate the design of a Ku-band Armstrong voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) utilizing dual transformer feedback for low-voltage low-power operation. The primary transformer feedback between the drain and the source of the VCO increases the output voltage swing under low supply voltage. With the secondary transformer feedback, g_m-boosting is obtained by the coupling between the drain and the gate of the Armstrong VCO. Combined with transformer feedback, g_m-boosting further reduces the negative transconductance required for oscillation startup, enabling ultralow-power operation. Thus, the proposed Armstrong VCO with dual feedback operates at 0.4 V with power consumption as low as 600 W. Under this condition, the measured phase noise of the VCO is -100.6 dB/Hz at 1-MHz offset from a 14.1-GHz carrier. The results show that the proposed VCO is suitable for very low-power applications requiring high signal purity.</P>
